Impression Lijiang is a magnificent outdoor singing and dancing performance demonstrating the tradition and lifestyle of the local ethnic people. It is another creation of famous Chinese director Zhang Yimou.
The show is innovatively staged in the morning and afternoon, at 3,100 meters (10,100 feet) above sea level with Jade Snow Mountain as the breathtaking backdrop.

A Cultural Show Performed by Local People
Impression Lijiang lasts for about one hour, consisting of two parts: Impression of Snow Mountain and Impression of the Ancient City. The show opens with the story of the Ancient Tea Horse Road and goes on to tell the customs of the people who have inhabited this land.
Around 500 local ethnic Naxi, Bai and Yi people were selected from nearby towns and villages to participate in the performance. They dress up in their ethnic costumes and accessories to perform the singing and dancing, horse riding and drumming, presenting real ethnic atmosphere to the show.
While the entire show is in Mandarin with no foreign language voice-over, the emotion conveyed in the acting, music and singing helps non Chinese-speaking visitor grasp the general gist of the story.

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is located 15 kilometers north of Lijiang City, with a height of 5,596 meters (18,360 feet). Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is famous for its variant and beautiful natural scenes, and is considered a sacred mountain among local Naxi ethnic people. It is also a popular hiking destination.
The bluish snowy peak serves as a magnificent backdrop for the gorgeous sprawling red stage / setting.

Impression of Lijiang (China Outdoor Theater) by Zhang Yimou
Another epic Zhang Yimou production (Olympic opening and closing ceremonies) with 500 actors, 100 horse in an open air theater at 10,170 feet (3500 meters). With the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the background, the show highlights dancing and song of the Naxi minority people. Note the show has no plot, it is more of an exhibition of culture. Show times vary in and out of season.

If you ever needed a reason to visit Lijiang then this is it. A fantastic show depicting the life and ways of the minority people who inhabit this region of Yunnan. Set inside the Yulongshan Geological Park with the towering Snow Mountain as a backcloth and with a cast of hundreds this show is a must!

Black Dragon Pool Scenic Area is located just a short walk out of Lijiang Old Town in Northwestern Yunnan province. Its most famous for the pool in Jade Spring Park as well as its white marble bridge, and views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The park was originally built in 1737. You can take a leisurely walk around the park or hike up Elephant Hill and get some great views of Lijiang and the surrounding areas. The admission fee for the scenic area is 50 RMB which is good for a month. If you plan on hiking up Elephant Hill be sure to bring your passport to register for liability purposes.

A cultural show demonstrating the traditions and lifestyles of the Naxi, Yi and Bai peoples of the LiJiang, YunNan. The show takes place by Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Park at 3500m in an outdoor theater is largely purpose-built for the performance with the mountain setting simply providing a breath-taking location and backdrop.
For this production, Zhang Yimou used over 100 horses and employed 500 local minority people selected from 16 different towns and villages. Important also, is that the cast was selected from 10 different ethnic Chinese minorities as the show itself is a celebration of minority culture in the area.
