We stayed at the newly refurbished Hotel Island Isabella, Porec, Croatia. We went on a 'Fish Picnic' to Rovinj, Vrsar and Lim Fjord and also went on the new Parenzana train to Motovun.

The Lim bay and valley is a peculiar geographic feature found near Rovinj and Vrsar on the western coast of Istria, south of Poreč, Croatia.
Located 20 minutes drive north of Rovinj, on the road Rovinj - Vrsar. By Lim bay you can travel also by boat from Rovinj, by sea, what is also a very attractive way to look at all the beauty it provides. Lim Bay is also apart by its natural beauty and famous for the cultivation of shellfish, where you can taste the same in the two restaurants that are there, and really are awesome. So you can make a day trip to swim, lunch and sunset, which is there striking.

Rovinj - Limski Canal - Vrsar, Croatia, 09.08.2011, bike trip
The second of my two trips on bike on the Istria. This time one of the targets was the Limski Canal, the only one fiord in Croatia. Again perfect weather conditions for biking. Enjoy the views.

W drugim dniu z użyciem roweru na Istrii zrobiłem małe rozpoznanie istniejących ścieżek i dróg w okolicy Rovinj. Większość przypadków kończyła się zawrotką ponieważ ścieżki prowadziły do posesji prywatnych lub publicznych lub zwyczajnie kręciłem się w kółko bo wszystko tu przemieszcza się wzdłuż wybrzeża. Przejechałem więc znowu przez starą część miasta i dalej aż oczywiście natrafiłem na położoną w najciekawszym miejscu, bo u ujścia Kanału Limskiego kemping i plażę FKK. To domena tych okolic, najlepiej zagospodarowana plaża, bo wybrzeże jest skaliste, zalane betonem, z prysznicami na plaży, alejkami w każdym przydatnym kierunku i wysprzątana, to właśnie Niemcy z tejże organizacji. Marnie tam poza tym było z siecią dróg wzdłuż brzegu tak więc jak już się zapędziłem musiałem się wracać prawie do samego Rovinj. Zobaczyłem którędy gdzie trafię i postanowiłem popołudniu pojechać na Kanał Limski i Vrsar.
Popołudniu wybrałem się w przeciwnym niz wczoraj kierunku a najciekawszy w tą stronę jest Kanał Limski, jedyny fjord w Chorwacji. Wcina się on na kilometry wgłąb lądu. Światło słoneczne płata w wodzie figle, bo góry wyrastające z wody powodują, że świeci od dołu. Dojazd to od strony skąd jechałem zjazd z wysokości ok 170m n.p.m. a na drugą stronę podjazd na ok 120m n.p.m. Natomiast droga do Vrsaru była kręta, mało interesująca, bo ani na niej nie ma widoku, jedziemy w głębi lądu, nic ciekawego się w sumie nie dzieje. Vrsaru sobie nie obejrzałem bo rower musiałem oddać do wypożyczalni przed 20.00 a nie wiedziałem do końca czy powrót nie zajmie mi jednak więcej czasu. Wjechałem tylko pod najbliższą budkę gazeciano - napojową, zatankowałem i podałem tyły. Ponownie przez bardziej widokowy, choć krótszy zjazd i konkretny podjazd no i na Rovinj. Jak się pani w wypożyczalni dowiedziała ile zrobiłem rowerem, który sama też używa za te niecałe dwa dni to trochę chyba jej mina zrzedła i szkoda się zrobiło, że nie trafiła na Niemca czy Włocha, który potrzebował dojechać na plażę i wrócić.

Croatia 2018-07-28: Packraft Lim Fjord
Western Istria has a geographical feature that is known as “Limski kanal” or “Limski zaljev” in Croatian. Tourists however prefer to refer to it as “Lim Fjord”, although in fact it is not a fjord at all, it just looks like one. More precisely, Lim Fjord is a 10 km long narrow bay that was carved by a river into the limestone landscape, rather than by a glacier.
During our family holiday in Istria I make a 34.7 km solo packrafting & hiking daytrip covering the Lim Fjord area. I start at our holiday residence in the small village of Flengi around 8:00am and hike through vineyards and small woods to a bay just north of Vrsar, where I start paddling. More than anything else, it is important to make an early start to be ahead of the sea breeze, which usually starts blowing later in the morning. Being early allows me to avoid rough conditions while paddling along the Adriatic coast, passing some of the islands of the Vrsar archipelago, until I reach the mouth of Lim Fjord. Around the time I reach the fjord the sea breeze starts to pick up, which is good since I am now veering east and can hence enjoy a nice tailwind. I make good progress and make a stop halfway the fjord around noon.
As I paddle further inland after lunch winds increase even more so I continue to make good progress. I paddle until the very end of the fjord and then go back a bit to take a break at the beach next to the restaurant. It’s a pretty hot day, I hence take a short swim but am quite surprised about how cold and murky the water is, compared to the Adriatic. Apparently the fjord has rather special conditions, which explains its economic significance as shellfish growing grounds.
Unfortunately there is no obvious hiking trail from my current location back to the village of Flengi. I therefore decide to paddle back part of the fjord. This is where conditions really get rough. Not only is the sea breeze blowing in full force now, in addition thunder clouds have moved in. The fierce headwind and waves are a real struggle but in the end I do reach a point where a trail steeply climbs up from the fjord onto the surrounding plateau. Although I am low on drinking water I decide to hike parts of the Kontija woods before returning, first to a lookout above some steep cliffs, then to a lookout above the so-called “pirates cave” and finally to a lookout tower on the Mukaba hill. Afterwards, I hike back to our holiday residence where I arrive around 6:00pm, well in time to take a dive into the pool to wrap up a physically strenuous day.
Worth mentioning is that water in these parts has a high salt content. Much of my stuff, including the lens of my GoPro is therefore covered with salt by the end of the day. Good rinsing afterwards is in order…

#OBENDROHNE - Es lohnt sich auch, den Lim Fjord aus der Vogelperspektive zu betrachten mit dem Video von #OBENDROHNE.
Am eindrucksvollsten präsentiert sich der Lim Fjord, wenn Sie die Straße von Buje nach Pula den Berg hinunter fahren. Ganz plötzlich öffnet sich der Blick auf den tief unten liegenden Limski Kanal, der sich in ein schmales Karsttal gegraben hat, das vor etwa 10.000 Jahren im Meer versunken ist. Diese fjordartige Schlucht erstreckt sich 25 Kilometer weit ins Landesinnere bis Beram bei Pazin. An der Stelle, wo das Meer endet und der Limski Kanal beginnt, erreichen die Wände der Schlucht beachtliche einhundert Meter Höhe.
