Barranco is known for it's peñas criollas, beaches, clubs and for it's bohemian atmosphere.

24 Hours in Lima, Peru ⎮ 100% Worth It
This is the first vlog of our trip to Peru in September of 2019. Our first stop was Lima, the capital city of Peru. Lima is a massive metropolis with 9 million inhabitants and loads of history. If you thought Peru only had Machu Picchu then I think Lima will be a pleasant surprise.
Peru’s main airport is in Lima so there is a good chance you will have to decide whether to stay a day or two or go straight to connecting destinations ✈️
All map images of courtesy of Google Earth
Many people decide to leave immediately, but I think having a day or two to explore Lima is worth it! I would recommend staying in Miraflores. It is about a 45 minute drive from the airport, but it is one of the nicest areas in Lima. A taxi or Uber should cost around $18 to $24 USD one way ????
There are plenty of restaurants, nightlife, shops and hotels in Miraflores. If you are looking for a cool traveler hostel I highly recommend trying out Selina. They have a great spot right in the heart of Miraflores. They offer private rooms with private bathrooms and various different dorm options. Another good area to stay at is Barranco. Barranco is the art district of Lima and it has a really cool environment. There are many good hotels, hostels and airbnb options in Barranco. Barranco and Miraflores are right next to each other so getting to each location is really easy ????
One of the greatest attractions in Lima is the gastronomy it offers. It is one of the leading cities in the world when it comes to fine dining. Some of the world’s top restaurants are located in Lima. Make sure you book far in advance as they fill up fast. However, pretty much all the food in Peru is delicious and not expensive. If you like seafood make sure you give Ceviche a try!
Uber is a great option to move around in Lima. It is not expensive and we always had good drivers. Generally speaking the people in Lima are very nice and willing to help tourists
Lastly, below is a list of places, restaurants and things to do while in Lima! Thanks so much for watching and make sure to subscribe for more content coming soon - The second vlog will be in Cusco
What to do in Lima, Peru ????????
1. Check out a delicious restaurant in Miraflores called: Asnapa - TripAdvisor link is below
2. My recommendation is to stay in either Miraflores or Barranco
3. Check out Selina Hostel
4. Check out Hangertips in Miraflores. It is the coolest shop for non-tacky souvenirs and dope clothing
5. Lima has a big surf scene. Selina offers surfing classes and board rentals
6. I would definitely take a tour of Barranco with a guide. We took ours through Airbnb with Jared. He is from Minnesota, but has lived in Lima for the past 5 years
7. Make sure you take a couple of hours to explore the center of Lima. Plaza de Armas is beautiful and if you go at noon you can see the changing of the guards at the President’s Palace. There are various free tours available. We got approached a few times for free walking tours while we were there
If you have any questions leave them down in the comments and I will make sure to help you out!

Travel in Peru 2012 Tour of Peru with Stops at Machu Picchu, Cuzco, and Lima
10-Day Guided Tour of Peru with Stops at Machu Picchu, Cuzco, and Lima
When he discovered Machu Picchu in 1911, explorer Hiram Bingham wrote, In the variety of its charms and the power of its spell, I know of no place in the world which can compare with it. The ancient Incan citadel is composed of impressively preserved granite temples and palaces tucked away in the Andes Mountains, some 8,000 feet above the Urubamba River. The former Incan capital of Cuzco is situated near Machu Picchu as well as some other pre-Columbian and colonial architecture, many of which you'll see on this guided tour of Peru from Gate 1 Travel.
Day 1: Depart from Miami International Airport (MIA) en route to Lima (LIM) via LAN Airlines. All in-flight meals, drinks, and entertainment are included.
Day 2: Upon arrival in Lima, you'll settle into your hotel and enjoy breakfast before touring the city's historic district. Here, you'll see the 17th-century San Francisco Monastery, which is covered in yellow stucco, sculptures of religious figures and, often, lots of pigeons. Inside, elaborate frescoes cover the ceiling. The church also once served as a cemetery; deep in its catacombs, you can see bones and skulls arranged in haunting circular patterns. After the tour, you can spend the evening checking out Lima at your leisure.
Days 3--4: After flying to Cuzco early in the morning, you'll head to the Chinchero market in the Urubamba Sacred Valley, where you can browse colorful scarves and fresh produce. At the ancient citadel of Ollantaytambo, granite temples, towering monoliths, and stone terraces stand as relics of the Incan civilization. Be sure to get a snapshot of the Princess Bath, an age-old stone fountain that is still functional. The following day is open for you to explore the Sacred Valley.
Days 5--6: You'll take a train ride to Machu Picchu to tour this legendary UNESCO World Heritage site. On the following day, you'll have a chance to explore Cuzco and its ancient Incan sites at your own pace. Cuzco is the former capital of the Incan empire and is steeped in history. On the main square, you'll find Spanish colonial churches, including the Barrio de San Blas. This adobe building is known for its elaborate pulpit, which is carved entirely from the trunk of a single cedar tree.
Days 7--8: The tour heads to the city of Puno, which sits 12,000 feet up into the Andes along the shore of Lake Titicaca. Raqchi is the next stop. This is the site of the Incan Temple of Wiracocha, which spans the length of a football field and is girded by massive stone columns.
In the morning, you'll travel by boat to the Uros Islands, which are entirely manmade from indigenous tortora reeds.
Days 9--10: The tour wraps up with a flight to Lima, where you will have one more opportunity to tour the capital city and savor a traditional Peruvian dinner before your flight home in the morning.

Things Not to Do in Peru
If you are planning to travel around Peru, you should know that there are some things you should avoid doing if you don't want to get in trouble.
So, getting straight into it, here are 10 Things not to Do in Peru.
.
01 Don't Book the Cheapest Tours
If you're planning on booking a tour, try to choose one with a good guide. They will show you the best places and information you wouldn't have otherwise known. Even if you just want to do some hiking, the guides can show spectacular paths you'll never forget.
02 Don’t be Rude
While occasionally arrogant and sometimes not very self aware, some tourists, also have the irritating habit of speaking to the Spanish-speaking Peruvian locals in English and when obviously not understood, decid to speak louder, as if somehow the'll be better understood, or something. This just comes across as rude. So don't be rude, they're very nice people.
03 Don’t Take Cheap Buses and strange Taxis
Transport accidents are very common in Peru due to careless drivers and poor road conditions. So, if you want to arrive safely to your destination, it will be better to take the bus instead.
04 Don’t try to save on Food
In Peru you can find many fine dishes that you will absolutely enjoy. So don't try to buy just the cheapest food. Try some classic dishes instead, like cuy (guinea pig), you'll only spend a few more bucks but it's well worth it.
05 Don’t Just Go to Machu Picchu
There are more things in Peru than just Machu Picchu. Sure, it's amazing and you must go, but don't limit your trip to just that. The coast or the Peruvian Amazon will amaze you, even the capital deserves a day trip.
06 Don’t forget About Health Concerns
You should avoid drinking tap water and also, don't think your altitude sickness won't be a problem for you because it may be. And, of course, don't forget to receive all the recommended vaccinations before travelling.
07 Don’t forget to Haggle
Peru is a haggling nation, so they expect you to discuss the price with them, especially in touristy markets and souvenir stands. Sometimes you can also haggle with taxi fares because they tend to rise their prices for tourists. Anyway, it's always better to ask their fare first, to avoid surprises.
08 Don’t Take Photos Without Asking
If you want to take a photo of an individual or a small group of people, always ask beforehand. And also, it's important to know that taking pictures of police or military personnel is not the best idea.
09 Don’t Get on Your Nerves With Local Authorities
Many Peruvian police officials are poorly paid, so the acceptance of bribes, is very common. It can be frustrating dealing with them. The process is often very slow. So, just keep calm, and wait for them to finish their routine.
10 Don't trust strangers
Don’t be too quick to trust anyone, especially when approached by a stranger. Sometimes people take advantage of foreign people and get close to you to scam you. So be careful and pay attention to these people.
Where do you want to know what not to do in next?
