Lima City Tour
Considering how much we've been devouring Peruvian cuisine you might think we've intentionally been avoiding touring much of Lima itself. Nothing could be further from the truth. The reality of our situation - completing a school practicum and visiting family - has meant we've had less time to travel than we normally do when visiting a city/country. Anyhow, when we had a few days off from school we were finally thrilled to get a chance to venture off from Miraflores and visit more of the traditional areas of the city. Joining Audrey's parents who visited us from Canada, we decided on Panoramic tour bus tour.

Departing from Kennedy Park the highlights were downtown colonial and Republic architecture including Plaza de Armas, Plaza San Martín, the Plaza of Congress, the “Parque de la Reserva”, the National Library and the station of 'Desamparados.' The guided portion of our tour allowed us to explore Monastery of San Francisco (Convento de San Francisco) with a tour of the catacombs. Unfortunately, we weren't able to take photos/video though.
Overall, it was a great way to see Lima - especially for those without a lot of days/time to spare. We ended up taking a Mirabus tour. The following is the necessary information:
Departs: Parque Kennedy
Daily: 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The tour lasts 3.5 hours
Adults: S /. 70.00
Kids (from 4 to 10 years): S /. 50.00
Kennedy Park (departs) – Miraflores (ends).
Lima City Tour Travel Video Transcript:
Coming in live from Parque Kennedy this is Gaucho Gringo Samuel. And before we start our tour of showing you all around Lima we're going to explore this park which is nearby our house.
Meow. Meow. Meow.
So this afternoon we're taking a tour with Mirabus and it is basically a bus tour around the city. It is not hop on, hop off style which means we won't get to you know get off and explore the places we're interested in. But we do get an overview of the city and right now we are visiting a beautiful Convent and Monastery.
Considering how many food videos we've been making since we've been in Lima it is kind of crazy we haven't gone out to explore and check out the city. Part of that is because of course we've been doing our teaching practicum and also we've been visiting family. But the other part is we've been eating so much and taking too many Siestas. So we've finally outside and we're excited to show you around Lima.
It is ridiculously hot and humid out here, so I'm trying my best to cool off with a local frozen popsicle here Maracuyá. And it is sweet and a little bit sour and tangy.
Eating ice cream in church, I'm pretty sure that is not allowed.
What can I say, I'm a bad boy.
This is part of our Travel in Peru series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Peruvian culture, Peruvian arts, Peruvian foods, Peruvian religion, Peruvian cuisine and Peruvian people. All things Peruano.

TRIP TO LIMA PERU - MIRAFLORES AND HISTORIC CENTER TOUR
Welcome to Lima Peru! We start the tour in the coastal city of Miraflores and travel to the Historic Center in Lima. On our way to the city, we pass by Huaca Pucllana, an archaeological site in Miraflores.
Our Peru Tour:
The first stop in Lima is the Central Bank Museum, a converted bank building that houses an astonishing pre-Columbian exhibition, an amazing art gallery, the impressive Hugo Cohen Gold collection and a Folk Art exhibition.
We visit Colonial Lima, including a visit to the Main Square, located in the heart of downtown to view the Government Palace, the Town Hall, the Bishops Palace with its beautiful balconies and the Cathedral of Lima, where we visit inside. Its outstanding features are the choirstalls, the Churrigueresque Chapel of the Immaculate, the main altar and a Christ made of carved ivory. On the right is the crypt with remains of conqueror Francisco Pizarro.
We pass by the church and convent of San Francisco, considered to be the most important religious monument of Lima, built in 1542 in Baroque style and consecrated in 1673.
Lima has several Colonial squares, churches and mansions, then we continue to the Modern Districts of San Isidro and Miraflores, for a glimpse of life in this huge city, as well as its beautiful parks, modern buildings and great ocean views.
We end the tour at a traditional Peruvian dance performance where we see the Marinera dance - the National dance of Peru,. We also see the Danza de las Tijeras- the scissor dance, an indigenous dance native to the region of Ayacucho. Lastly, we see the Afro-Peruvian Dance called El Alcatraz.

Lima City Tour + Home Cooked Peruvian Food Travel Video Transcript:
Greetings from Lima, Peru. Yes we are finally doing some sightseeing today. Yeah. Because we've been here a few days just eating, drinking, socializing. It has been fantastic but we need to start moving our skeletons a bit to burn off some calories. Yeah, today we have signed up to do a bus tour with Turibus of the historic centre and we've done a similar tour with Mirabus in the past. I feel like I've done that tour like 3 times. Right. But my sister's husband has never been to Lima. Yep. It is his first time here and he needs to see the city. Yeah, we're basically going to show him and also we're departing from a different area. Yes. Normally we've departed from Kennedy Park. Parque Kennedy. Yep. But this time we are departing from Larcomar and it should be really cool because we don't go to the central downtown part of Lima that much. Not very much. Yeah. So it is going to be nice to go back and check that out today. Yeah and the price was $25 USD dollars. Right. I think pretty good for a 3 hour tour.
We are now finally entering the historic center. Yeah it takes a little while. I know. Lots of traffic today. Tonnes of traffic today. I've had a bit of a nap. You have. You tend to do that whenever there is a long bus ride.
Another attraction that we're only seeing in passing. This is Plaza Martin. Nice gardens you've got San Martin on his horse.
Alright we just got off of the bus. At Plaza de Armas. We have five minutes for photos.
Here we have the cathedral and moving over just behind the fountain we have the Bishop's Palace. Turning over we have the government palace. Sam is busy taking photos here. And over on that side city hall, 4 major landmarks and one square.
So we are now visiting the Convent of San Francisco. This is going to be where we'll be spending most of our time. It is the main attraction we're covering today on the main bus tour. However no photo and no video allowed inside which really sucks because I've been here like 3 times before and it is impressive so we'll just show you the exterior.
So we've just exited the Convent of San Francisco (Basílica y Convento de San Francisco). What did you think? You've been here several times now. Yeah. And unfortunately the rules haven't changed. You are not allowed to take any photos or videos.
Sam's first causa in a long time. Yeah really excited about this. Tell us about the ingredients. Well it is like yellow potatoes. It looks like we have peas. We have chicken. Mmmhmm. Eggs. Egg on top. Black olives. Lots of mayo. It is delicious. This is like a potato shepherd's pie. I would say. Red onions Sam? Oh yes please. Thank you. Oh I'll have red onions too. That will give it a little bit of kick. Gracias.
