Lincoln Parish Park Trail Review 2018 - Ruston, Louisiana Abe would be Proud
Just 4 miles north of Ruston, Louisiana lies Lies Lincoln Parish Park. They have a pretty nice park there in Lincoln Parish, campsites, fishing, picnic tables, nice restrooms, playground, and a swimming area as well as hiking and some nice mountain biking trails. There is a small fee for day use.
The day we rode this trail we got about 11 miles out of the ride. We started this ride from the parking lot next to the lake and followed the paved road to a dirt road just behind the playground which in turn led us to the beginner trail. From what I gathered there are two trails out there a beginner or more closely a novice trail which runs around the perimeter of the park. Other than a few little climbs this perimeter trail is not too daunting, its wide and I seen nothing to hinder a riders journey.
The intermediate trail uses the interior of the perimeter trail and rejoins the perimeter trail from time to time. The terrain on the intermediate trail is very undulating which makes for a roller coaster type ride from time to time. The trail has a pretty good flow to it and the corridors, for the most part, are wide, there are a few tight twisty sections. As far as climbing goes I think we had a total of 1,171 ft in elevation most of which or short gentle climbs but there are a few little stout climbs out there.
The tech of this trail was not bad, you will find no large rock gardens, drops, or big jumps out there, however, there are a few nice small jumps here and there which can be rolled over if you so desire. The most obstructions you will see will come in the form of roots and some can be rather big in places.
The trail is mostly hard packed with little to no rocks. The area looks like it would retain water after a rain so if it has rained recently I would check before heading out there. Both trails seem to be well maintained and signed.

Lincoln Parish Park MTB Trail
Lincoln Parish Park has the best trail in Louisiana in my opinion. It has a dedicated maintenance team to keep it in tip top shape, with constant changes to add features and various challenges. It was the very first trail that I rode and was my last before moving out of the state. If your in the northern Louisiana area and want a good challenge you should definitely check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Lincoln Parish Park MTB Trail
We rode the Lincoln Parish Park beginners trail mostly but added in some of the main trail. It was definitely fun for me but a little slow for my son. I will ride more of the main trail as I gain more experience and get in better shape.

Ruston, LA: An amazing place to live, learn, and play
Home of Louisiana Tech University, the small city of Ruston (population 22,000) can be considered a college town. There’s a lot more to it, though. The 260-acre Lincoln Parish Park is one of the premiere mountain biking destinations in the region, with around 11 miles of single-track riding geared to all levels. There are also lots of opportunities for walking, camping, and fishing in the park.
The small business scene in Ruston’s historic downtown area is booming, and is the perfect location to let loose and fuel up after a hard day on the trails. If you’re around in June, you’ll want to check out the annual Peach Festival, now in its 67th year. It’s chock full of events like a parade, antique car show, rodeo, and a peach cobbler eating contest.
