Lincoln is an unincorporated community in Lincoln County, New Mexico, United States, located approximately 57 miles (92 km) west of Roswell (by road) and just south of the Lincoln National Forest. The town had a population of about 800 in 1888, and Main Street has been preserved by current residents. The community lies on U.S. Route 380.
Originally called Las Placitas del Rio Bonito by the Spanish families who settled it in the 1850s, the name of the community was changed to Lincoln when Lincoln County was created in January 16, 1869. Lincoln county was founded by five cultures. First discovered and lived on by Natives, discovered again by Conquistadores, settled by Mexicans, then re-established by Anglo-Americans. It was named after Abraham Lincoln.
Lincoln was at the center of the Lincoln County War, 1876-1879, and is the historical home of Billy the Kid. The village holds an annual festival in August featuring an open-air enactment of The Last Escape of Billy the Kid.
For about a year during World War II, the Old Raton Ranch, an abandoned Civilian Conservation Corps camp on the outskirts of Lincoln, was used to confine Japanese American railroad workers and their families. All 32 internees came from Clovis, New Mexico; the town's entire Japanese American population was placed under house arrest shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor brought the U.S. into the war, and the Immigration and Naturalization Service evacuated them to Lincoln on January 23, 1942. Unlike the assembly centers where most Japanese Americans spent the first months of their wartime incarceration, access to school, employment and recreational activities was not permitted in Lincoln. On December 18, 1942, the internees were transferred to several of the more public concentration camps run by the War Relocation Authority.
The Lincoln Historic District was made a National Landmark in 1960

New Mexico Road Trip [HD]
Most humbling thing I learned is how little I knew of the United States. In New Mexico we were filming at Roswell, the sight of the 1947 UFO crash and then while heading into the mountains up to an elevation of 7,000 feet, we passed through Lincoln County.
This is where Billy the Kid hung out.
Billy the Kid, also known as William Henry McCarty, Henry Antrim and William H. Bonney (allegedly November 23, 1859[1] -- c. July 14, 1881) was a 19th-century American frontier outlaw and gunman who participated in the Lincoln County War. According to legend, he killed 21 men, but he is generally accepted to have killed between four[ and nine

New Mexico's Brokeoff Mountains Could See More Protection | Pew & This American Land
New Mexico's Brokeoff Mountains are a stretch of rugged canyons and peaks relatively untouched by development, and locals want to keep it that way.
The Brokeoff Mountains are located in the southeastern corner of New Mexico and encompass Lincoln National Forest, Carlsbad Caverns, and Guadalupe National Park.
Half of the mountain range has been designated as a wilderness study area because it is an ecological hotspot for rare plant and animal species. The area is also home to archeological sites, caves, and rock shelters. Still some unprotected spaces are threatened by natural gas development and mining for rare earth minerals.
The Bureau of Land Management is revising its management plan for the Brokeoff Mountains, and The Pew Charitable Trusts and local partners are encouraging the agency to conserve a greater share of land in this area to more effectively preserve its ecological richness.
Get to know this special place, and the people working to protect it, in this episode of This American Land, produced in partnership with The Pew Charitable Trusts.
Abraham Lincoln Memorial At Soldiers Walk Memorial Park
This is one of the first Memorials you'll see at the park depicting Abraham Lincoln and The Civil War
(February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War—its bloodiest war and its greatest moral, constitutional and political crisis. In so doing he preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the national government and modernized the economy.
Reared in a poor family on the western frontier, Lincoln was a self-educated lawyer in Illinois, a Whig Party leader, state legislator during the 1830s, and a one-term member of the Congress during the 1840s. He promoted rapid modernization of the economy through banks, canals, railroads and tariffs to encourage the building of factories; he opposed the war with Mexico in 1846. After a series of highly publicized debates in 1858 during which he opposed the expansion of slavery, Lincoln lost the U.S. Senate race to his archrival, Democrat Stephen A. Douglas. Lincoln, a moderate from a swing state, secured theRepublican Party presidential nomination in 1860. With almost no support in the South, Lincoln swept the North and was elected president in 1860. His election prompted seven southern slave states to form the Confederacy. No compromise or reconciliation was found regarding slavery.

I am the Statue of Liberty
I’m on Liberty Island
Come and visit me
I am the Statue of Liberty
I’m surrounded by the waters
of New Jersey
In 1886,
The Statue of Liberty
was gifted to the US from France
to celebrate their friendship across the sea
The statue represents the friendship these two countries endured
during the American Revolution.
I’m not sure if you’ve heard
In 1865 a French man
named Édouard de Laboulaye
proposed The Statue of Liberty be built for the USA
Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi
Was the French sculptor
Who designed the Statue of Liberty
Of that I’m sure
Bartholdi chose Bedloe's Island as the site for the Statue
So, every ship entering New York Harbor would see it. It’s true
Here are some facts about me you may have not known
I’m 305 feet and 6 inches tall from foundation to the torch tip shown
I have a 35-foot waistline
So I wear a big toga
And I weigh 225 tons
I wish I had a big sofa
My torch was restored in 1986
with thin sheets of 24k gold
Yea, I’m kinda rich
My crown has 7 rays
One for each of the seven continents
Each of them weighs 150 pounds and 9 feet in length
and they’re dense
My face measures more than
8 feet tall in length you see
The broken chains on my feet represent freedom and democracy
I am the Statue of Liberty
I’m on Liberty Island
Come and visit me
I am the Statue of Liberty
I’m surrounded by the waters
of New Jersey
If you want to climb me you’ll be walking for some time
Up 154 steps from the pedestal to the head of mine
My copper exterior’s less than the thickness of two pennies
And I could make 30 million pennies
With the amount of copper on me
My original copper color used to be a brownish gold
But, now I’m a green patina due to natural weathering because I’m old
If you want to visit me you’d have to come to Liberty Island
Which is an exclave of the New York City borough of Manhattan
Remember to be fair and kind to everyone you meet
Because we live in the USA known for freedom and democracy
I am the Statue of Liberty
I’m on Liberty Island
Come and visit me
I am the Statue of Liberty
I’m surrounded by the waters
of New Jersey
