HOLY ISLAND WITH JOHN WINSTANLEY. 23 AUG 2007. VIDEO'S AND PICTURES.
This video shows various images of Lindisfarne.(Holy island) With mobile footage and some camera shots. The other video footage was of a beach party at Boggle hole Robin Hoods Bay filmed by John Winstanley. in September 2011 and Hurworth burn sunset filmed by John in September 2011.
The Holy island footage shows the Island and also crossing the causeway. This was a really great day out with perfect weather. Although some of the film is from a mobile it shows some great images of the sunset over the causeway. This was a video I had been meaning to edit together for some time in tribute to John Winstanley.
We couldn't have wished for a more perfect day, as far as the weather was concerned. It was beautiful that day. The thing I always remember about this day out, was that me and John were the last people to leave the Island before the tide came in. I always remember saying to John, 'Bloody hell, It's like Wickerman Island!.. Because as soon as the tourists left all the locals came out, and started talking to us both. Driving back across the causeway as the sun was setting was pure magical. As it grew dark, John decided it would be a good idea to drive home along the old A19 to show me what it used to look like. John talked about being up in Holy Island on a previous trip along with Pete Gowland, travelling in the back of a Mini Cooper. I think they all ended up staying on the Island for the night.
The second video clip on the film was by John. Called booze android. He was taking the mick out of the Hartlepool chav culture. He wasn't on a downer!.. This was in the days when everyone started doing video blogs on You Tube. He was just having a laugh. I can remember him showing me it.
Boggle hole was from a video that John filmed on his Blackberry to send to my e-mail to see if it worked. This was from a weekend he had with Colin Grants party at the hostel at Boggle hole at Robin Hoods Bay. 24th September. 2011. It show's the drumming at night on the beach. It looked great. One of the last video's filmed by John.
Hurworth burn sunset was the last video filmed by John. This was another one filmed on his Blackberry. This was taken around about the 29th September 2011. The time this was filmed was unusually really hot weather. I was a mini heatwave we had for a weekend at the back end of September. I was meaning to put this video together earlier to compliment the exhibition of Johns photography. Put together for by John's sister Anne, at Hartlepool central Library. Jan. 2014.

11/32 Leg 9 - Amble to Eyemouth – Spectacular Wildlife of the East Coast
Tripper boats from the main land bring people out to the Farne Islands to enjoy the spectacular wildlife here.
So we’ve just arrived at the Farne Islands, we are in a mooring called “Kettle” which is almost a complete circle, really sheltered from the currents. The guides from the tripper boats have let us pick up their mooring and so we are going to go ashore for an hour, we are going to pumps up the inflatable, go ashore and check out the island.
The islands are actually open from the 1st April to 30th September, but without a doubt the best time to visit is during the bird breeding season which is from mid-April to late July. Late October to mid-December is the best time to watch seal pups.
The Farnes have been a wildlife sanctuary for almost 100 years. The National Trust took over management in 1925, but it wasn’t always this way. The seals here used to be killed for their skins and oil from their blubber and sea birds and eggs were collected in such numbers that some species almost disappeared.
Today the seal colony on the farms are one of the most important in Europe, numbering between 3000–4000 grey seals, and in the summer tens of thousands of puffins and guillemots breed here, as well as lesser numbers of many other sea birds. The island’s only human residents are now the wardens.
The Farne Islands are an absolute must for anybody who’s cruising this area. Awesome bird colony, absolutely amazing place to visit. Look at that water, it’s absolutely crystal clear now, absolutely beautiful. After all of the muddy water that we have been through, it’s great to see nice, clean, clear water again. That’s an incredible island, the bird colony there is just fantastic!
This Northumberland coast is stunningly beautiful isn’t it, amazing coast line! This used to be the coast of castles, we’ve been passing one after another after another. This is Bamburgh Castle which is probably one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, absolutely stunning castle! We can’t get in any close because it is a really shallow bank here, we’ve got a meter below us already and we’ve got to watch the depth all of the time but it’s about as close as we can get to it.
It’s a flying visit to Lindisfarne - we anchored out here in the harbour, got some post cards, got some mead, went to the Priory, back on the boat heading north. We are still hoping to make it to Scotland today although it’s getting a bit late in the day, we’ll see how we do!
That was just a stampede of seals wasn’t it! Must be 300 or 400 or more just on this sand-spit, just went charging for the water when we came towards them. Incredible spectacle!
After an incredible day we crossed the Scottish border and pulled into Eyemouth looking for a birth for the night.

Holy Island of Lindisfarne Vlog
Hello Everyone,
Welcome back to my channel!!
We recently visited HOLY ISLAND in Lindisfarne Northumberland.
The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, also known simply as Holy Island, is a tidal island off the northeast coast of England, which constitutes the civil parish of Holy Island in Northumberland.
Lindisfarne has become known as 'Holy Island' because of the important part it played in the story of bringing the Christian gospel to England. ... Oswald granted Lindisfarne to Aidan so that he could establish a monastery modelled on their home on Iona.
The island measures 3 miles (4.8 km) from east to west and 1 1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) from north to south, and comprises approximately 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) at high tide.
So if you plan to visit this island with your family, do check the below links for more information-
