Gastonia, North Carolina (DJI Mavic Pro Footage)
Gastonia, North Carolina is the 13th largest City in North Carolina and the second largest satellite city of the Charlotte area.
Gastonia was named for William Gaston who was a member of the North Carolina Supreme Court from 1833 to 1844. Gastonia is also the county seat of Gaston County which was also named after William Gaston. Gastonia was known for the textile mills years ago. Gaston County had a great deal of textile mills from the 20's till the 90's when some of the mills were closing and changing locations. One event that was observed nationwide was the Loray Mill Strike in 1929. This strike is one of the most notable in the history of the United States. The Loray Mill building still stands today and are apartments - but still displays the architect of years ago. Its also the tallest building in Gastonia @ 140 feet.
Gastonia is filled with attractions or things to do. Rather it's riding to nearby Charlotte or maybe take a hike in beautiful Crowders Mountain State Park - there are always something to do. This makes Gastonia a great place to visit or live.

lineberger park miniature train
A trip back in time! I used to ride this train in my hometown during the 70's!
The Lineberger Park Train dates back to the late 1950's, The train ran for parts of four decades before closing in 1980.
A group of private citizens led by George Henry III and Richard Rankin met in 2003 with the idea of raising the necessary funds to Bring Back The Lineberger Park Train. Through donations from private citizens and foundations over $150,000
was raised to purchase the train, lay the track, build a storage shed to house the train, and erect a loading station.

Exploring the Gastonia Area (12/23/2016)
A few days before Christmas, I tagged along with a good friend of mine to explore the NS Piedmont mainline south of Charlotte as well as capture the Piedmont and Northern Christmas Train. While traffic on this part of the line can be hit or miss, we were fortunate to catch a northbound parade coming out of Greenville that morning.
First we capture NS P43 rolling south under the classic Southern intermediate signals at Lowell with NS GP40-2 #3040 and NS RP-E4C #741. This local originates in Charlotte and works industries between Gastonia and the South Carolina state line.
Next, we see NS 204 rolling out of The Ditch in Gastonia with brand new BNSF ET44C4 #3786 leading BNSF ES44C4 #8266 and NS D9-44CW #9838.
Shortly after 204, we catch Macon-Linwood manifest 118 rolling north on the south side of Gastonia with NS D9-40C #8861 leading NS D9-44CWs #9711, #9038, and #9949.
Continuing the northbound parade, train 172 rolls north through the ditch with UP SD70ACe #8474 and UP SD70M #4088.
Right on 172's heels was red hot intermodal train 212 rolling north under the Southern intermediate signals at Avon with NS SD60E #7012, NS D9-44CW #9001, and NS D9-44CW #9869. The SD60E would suffer a mechanical failure around Charlotte and the train would continue north with the two Dash 9s on the point.
After the northbound parade passed on the mainline, P43 had run around its train in the small yard at Gastonia and is seen splitting the streets in Gastonia on the former Carolina and Northwestern HG line with the road slug now on the point.
We decided to head on down towards Kings Mountain and Grover where we found P42 leaving town with an SD60E and an ex-N&W SD40-2 but didn't have time to pick out a decent shot. 213 was the next thing on the docket and is seen passing the plethora of historical markers in the small town of Grover, NC with a colorful lashup consisting of BNSF ET44C4 #3848, KCS ES44AC #4842, and UP SD70M #5091 leading the priority intermodal towards Atlanta. Interestingly enough we were standing in South Carolina photographing the train in North Carolina. The historical markers in the scene are commemorating the Patriot militia's victory over Loyalist militia at the Battle of King's Mountain in the American Revolution.
After getting back into Gastonia, we captured the Piedmont and Northern Christmas train departing Ranlo after a stop at the yard office with leased NS MP15E #2394 doing the honors. The CSX SD50-2 is also on lease to the P&N for freight service while they await new road power to arrive.

The Piedmont & Northern Railway was a heavy electric interurban company operating over two disconnected divisions in North and South Carolina.Tracks spanned 128 miles total between the two segments, with the northern division running 24 miles from Charlotte, to Gastonia, North Carolina, including a three-mile spur to Belmont. The southern division main line ran 89 miles from Greenwood to Spartanburg, South Carolina, with a 12 mi spur to Anderson.Initially the railroad was electrified at 1500 volts DC, however, much of the electrification was abandoned when dieselisation was completed in 1954.

Town of Ranlo - Board of Commissioners Town Hall Meeting - October 10th, 2019
It's an extremely gray area having a discussion with one man that holds two vastly different roles.
Tim Anderson is acting as the Town Coordinator during the Town Hall meetings, so disagreeing with the Town Coordinator or questioning aspects of his responsibility is NOT a reflection of someone's opinion of the Police Department or an insult of the Police Department.
Any conversation with the man in that chair during those times is a discussion with the Town Coordinator, NOT the Chief of Police.
I know this to be fact, because pursuant to the Ranlo ordinance, Tim would be extremely out of line with his behavior if he was speaking as the Chief of Police last night.
