CAMBRIA SUNSET 16NOV11
Weekend escapes from Fresno to the Central California Coast have been a high priority for our family for decades. Just 150 miles away, a 3 hour drive down highway 41 and your there at the beach. We started off years ago at Pismo Beach, then favored Morro Bay. Then we discovered Cayucos, a few miles north on Hiway 1. It was a little cheaper and not so touristy. But, the beaches there were covered in seaweed at times and the sand is brown and more like dirt. But, a few years ago we discovered Cambria on our way to Hearst Castle and fell in love with it's Piney-Woods mountains at the seashore and white sand beaches. Cambria is the cutest little Bohemian town on Santa Rosa Creek that refuses to let major developers ruin the place. Just about every place where you can spend money is owned and operated by a traditional Mom and Pop. As you head out of town north on Hiway 1, the beautiful beaches and countryside are untouched by development mile after mile. They have fought and are constantly fighting to keep this part of California as natural as possible. It is just so pleasant to enjoy this part of the Central Coast without the distractions of billboards, chain restaurants and other out-of-control development.
Upon reflection, the reasons why the Hearst family would choose this place to vacation for generations when they could literally go anywhere in the world are evident: A magical combination of weather, coastline, flora and fauna make this place incredibly pleasant. And the sunsets are awe-inspiring.
I shot the stills on a Nikon s3000, the video on a Sony DCR108, edited it in Magix Movie Edit and added my original music of layered guitars. Dale Stewart
