Journey to Pöstlingberg from Hauptplatz Linz Austria
The Pöstlingberg is a 539 meters high hill on the left bank of the Danube in the city of Linz, Austria. It is a popular tourist destination, with a viewing platform over the city, and is the site of the Pöstlingberg pilgrimage church, and the Linz Grottenbahn.

Linz's Pöstlingberg tram (Pöstlingbergbahn), the steepest adhesion railway in Europe, creates a harmonious combination of nostalgia and modernity through its design. In only 20 minutes, starting from Hauptplatz, it climbs Linz's local mountain.On its way it passes the Anton Bruckner University and the Zoo.
Pöstlingberg pilgrimage basilica
At the highest point on Pöstlingberg, the landmark of Linz towers over the city: the pilgrimage basilica called the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary. Just a few minutes' walk from the Pöstlingbergbahn stop, if offers a breathtaking view of Linz.

The history of the Pöstlingbergbahn:
In 1897 the construction of the Pöstlingbergbahn started. The construction was very labor intensive and very stressful especially for the workers, since all earthworks had to be done by hand. Even heavy materials such as cable drums, catenary masts were brought in with ox-cart. Despite the difficult circumstances, the construction work progressed rapidly and after just under a year, more precisely, only ten months after the start of construction, started on May 29, 1898, the operation.

Austria trains - Day trip to Linz
Trip from Gmunden to Linz Austria, and back, on the local trains (much cheaper!). The first leg is a short ride from Gmunden to Attnang-Puccheim to change trains for another local on the main east-west route of the OBB. Another advantage of locals - windows that open!

Linz Hauptbahnhof or Linz Central Station is a railway station in Linz, the third largest city in Austria, and capital city of the federal state of Upper Austria. Opened in 1858, the station is the centrepiece of the Linz transport hub. It forms part of the Western Railway, and is also a terminus of the Pyhrn Railway, the Summerauer Railway, and the Linzer Lokalbahn (LILO). The station is owned by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB); train services are operated by the ÖBB and the LILO. With over 30,000 travellers per day, it is one of the busiest through stations in Austria.
The Railjet (branded as railjet) is a high-speed train of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and Czech Railways (ČD), which was introduced with the timetable change of 2008-2009 and operates at speeds of up to 230 km/h (143 mph). The railjet is the premier service of the ÖBB and operates both domestically within Austria and on international services to adjacent major cities in Germany, Hungary, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Italy and from December 2018 Slovakia.

The Pöstlingberg is one of the landmarks of Linz.
One of the steepest trams - which now is under construction to be perfectly rennovated in 2009, when Linz becomes European Capital of Culture - takes you up to the top of the hill.
Up there you can enjoy a ride on the Dragon Express, the grotto railway where you can see a fantastic fairytale world.
There are also some renowned restaurants that invite you to having a break there while enjoying the breathtaking view over Linz.
Before going home again visit the Zoo of Linz, home of many different animals.
The Pöstlingberg is one of the most beautiful and diversified local recreation areas.
