Kome Caves - Lesotho - Africa
we show you the The Kome Cave Dwellings, an unusual group of caves made out of mud in Lesotho, which are still inhabited by the descendants of the original people who built them. The main purpose for the cave dwellings was to serve as a hideout from other Basotho people who resorted to cannibalism during the drought in the late 18th century. An awesome place!.

Thaba Hantebele, Lesotho
Here we climb one of the higher peaks just south of the camp town of Botha-Bothe in Lesotho. I cobbled together about 10 smaller videos that show our ascent.
The PCV with the long hair is Nick. He's been here for about 22 months and will be heading home in the middle of the calendar year. He volunteers with the Health & Youth group in Lesotho. The PCV with the hat is John, and he's been here for about 17 months meaning he'll head home at the end of the calendar year. He volunteers with the Education group that arrived one year before I did. .
It took us 3hrs 50min to climb. When you see the others emerge from the brush, we had just finished climbing through brambles, thorn bushes, and tangled brush. I plowed right through and they military-crawled for a bit. There's no pathways up the mountain, so we tended to follow dry washes made from rain runoff.
By the time we got to the top, we had ascended about 800m (metric, remember, we're in Africa) and reached about 2600m at the peak. Weer got back down in about 2hrs 30min cuz the descent was just as devoid of trails. The rain started to hit us about 5 min from reaching the shelter of the PCV's house.
(Sorry about the burp, I couldn't figure out how to edit that part out haha)

Tensions Brew on the South Africa/Lesotho Border (2000)
Uncommon Ground (2000): The majestic stone caves on the mountainous border of Lesotho are a magnet for spiritual pilgrims, drawn by the call of the ancestors. But these sites are on white owned farmland.

In a colourful ceremony, Ella Thabana is graduating today. She’s spent six months in the Badimong valley, or “Place of the Ancestors”, training as a sangoma or traditional healer. Her religion is a mix of traditional beliefs and Christianity. Like hundreds of others, Ella will return to Badimong from time to time as her ancestors make their wishes known. But conflict is brewing. White farmers say pilgrims have no right to trespass on private land. Farm murders have hardened white attitudes towards the cave dwellers. This film investigates a true South African dilemma - the conflict around religion and land. We hear impassioned arguments from both sides.

Looking for some snow fun, Butha Buthe district the place to be
That song - let it go - from the Disney animated movie, Frozen - has become synonymous with snow and cold weather. You however don't need to go to some far off cold country to experience the magic of snow. This time of the year the Drakensburg and Maluti Mountains are covered in snow which excites many revelers. Our producer Kirat Lalla went in search of some fun in the snow in the Butha Buthe district of Lesotho.

Discover Lesotho - Abelanang Basotho Teyateyaneng
In this episode of Discover Lesotho Mapule takes us to Teyateyaneng (T.Y.) Handicrafts that create memorable traditional Lesotho crafts. Local weaving groups formed Abelanang Basotho which means lets share and they take the product to market for the weavers. They use local mohair from the farmers in the area and they work it all the way to the final product. Every product is done passionately by hand and they include wall hangings, tapestries, rugs, scrafs and cushion covers to mention a few. All of the products tell a story.
