Lipscani is a street and a district of Bucharest, Romania, which in the Middle Ages was the most important commercial center of Bucharest.

Call it Lipscani, call it the Historic Centre (Centru Istoric, in Romanian), call it what you like. But the area of Bucharest described by the river to the south, Calea Victoriei to the west, Brătianu to the east and Regina Elisabeta to the north is more or less all thats left of pre-World War II Bucharest. What the war didnt destroy (and it destroyed a fair bit: allied bombing was fierce during the early part of 1944) communism did, most notably in the form of the grandiose Civic Centre project that saw almost a fifth of the total area of the city flattened to make way for Bulevardul Unirii and Casa Poporului. The Charming Lipscani Area Bucharest, Romania
One of the nicest, up and coming area in Bucharest is the old historical area called Lipscani. In the 1400s, merchants and craftsmen established shops and guilds in this section which became known as Lipscani, so named for German traders from Lipsca or Leiptzig.
Streets took on the names of the guilds similar to other medieval towns. There would be a street of blacksmiths, furriers, etc. and this mix is reflected in the different architectural styles; everything from Baroque to Art Nouveau.
Between the remains of the Old Princely Court built in the 15th century by Vlad Tepes (also known as Vlad Dracula - you know who he is thanks to Bram Stoker), Manuc's Inn and the Beer Cart Restaurant built in 1879, there is plenty to see. Lipscani has to be even more beautiful and enjoyable in the summer with its many restaurants and outdoor tables.

A walking tour of Bucharest Nightlife Old Town After Midnight. Old town Bucharest, Romania is a lively quarter in the center of the city that is full of bars, clubs, restaurants, and hotels.
It is a popular spot for locals to hang out on the weekends and is often a main area for tourists to visit.
The nightlife starts around 11pm and goes until 4am most nights.
If you are concerned about noise from old town making it difficult to sleep, make sure you book a room on the outskirts of old town and not right in the center.

From Piaţa Universităţii past St. Nicolas Students' Church (Sfântul Nicolae Biserica Studenţilor) and the National Bank (Banca Natională a României) into Lipscani, Bucharests Old Town to Hanul lui Manuc and the Old Court Church (Biserica Curtea Veche).
