Photography in Lisbon, Portugal
Our trip to Porto was ultra short. I was hoping to have a bit more time, but between missing trains and Erin having to catch a flight out of Lisbon today, there probably wasn't even enough time for a proper look at Porto. But, alas, it was still a fun little trip.
On this episode, we make the return journey back to Lisbon via the train from Porto. Then, once we arrive in the city, and are greeted by some serious traffic, we get back to the Hub New Lisbon Hostel. After getting settled quickly, we made our way up to the castle above Lisbon where I hoped to photograph sunset and the blue hour. Unfortunately for me, we got kicked out of the castle before I could really do much photography.
Tomorrow we'll be leaving Lisbon and off on new adventures.

The Lisbon Photowalk is the third stop of the Europe Photowalk series, which began in Madrid and continued to Seville, Spain. Next and final stop: Portugal's Porto. ????
The #Photowalks series is all about bringing viewers to cool places, usually in the Southern California area in search of the best photo spots to light up your social media, and to show how, when and where to get them.
Past Photowalk episodes include visits to Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Balboa Island, the Griffith Observatory and Venice Beach. We went outside the area to trek to Pismo Beach, a road trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, Tokyo and Kauai.

Lisbon is the capital and the largest city of Portugal, with a population of 552,700[4] within its administrative limits in an area of 100.05 km². Its urban area extends beyond the city's administrative limits with a population of around 2.7 million people, being the 11th-most populous urban area in the European Union. About 2.8 million people live in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (which represents approximately 27% of the country's population). It is continental Europe's westernmost capital city and the only one along the Atlantic coast. Lisbon lies in the western Iberian Peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean and the River Tagus. The westernmost areas of its metro area is the westernmost point of Continental Europe.
Lisbon is recognised as a global city because of its importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts, international trade, education and tourism. It is one of the major economic centres on the continent, with a growing financial sector and one of the largest container ports on Europe's Atlantic coast. Lisbon Portela Airport serves over 20 million passengers annually, as of 2015, and the motorway network and the high-speed rail SYSTEM of Alfa Pendular link the main cities of Portugal. The city is the 7th-most-visited city in Southern Europe, after Istanbul, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Athens and Milan, with 1,740,000 tourists in 2009. The Lisbon region contributes with a higher GDP PPP per capita than any other region in Portugal. It also ranks as the 10th highest GDP of metropolitan areas in the EU amounting to 110 billion euros and thus €39,375 per capita, 40% higher than the average European Union's GDP per capita. The city occupies 32nd place of highest gross earnings in the world. Most of the headquarters of multinationals in the country are located in the Lisbon area. It is also the political centre of the country, as its seat of Government and residence of the Head of State.
Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by centuries. Julius Caesar made it a municipium called Felicitas Julia, adding to the name Olissipo. Ruled by a series of Germanic tribes from the 5th century, it was captured by the Moors in the 8th century. In 1147, the Crusaders under Afonso Henriques reconquered the city and since then it has been a major political, economic and cultural centre of Portugal. Unlike most capital cities, Lisbon's status as the capital of Portugal has never been granted or confirmed officially – by statute or in written form. Its position as the capital has formed through constitutional convention, making its position as de facto capital a part of the Constitution of Portugal.
Lisbon enjoys a Mediterranean climate. It has the warmest winters of any metropolis in Europe, with average temperatures 15 °C (59 °F) during the day and 8 °C (46 °F) at night from December to February. The typical summer season lasts about six months, from May to October, although also in April temperatures sometimes reach around 25 °C (77.0 °F). (WIKIPEDIA source)
Stunning Lisbon - A Photographer's Dream City
I recently had the chance to visit Lisbon while giving a couple of presentations at WebSummit. Everyone that had been there had told me what a great place it was, so I took an afternoon to walk around the city filming with my iPhone.
Have you been? What did you think? (And let me know in the comments if you liked this video.)
BTW - the iPhone XS Max is a videographer's dream camera. It's much less disruptive to people that are in your scenes than a full DSLR. I used it on a FreeFly Movi gimbal. I also carried around my Sony A7r III with a few lenses, but hardly used it.
BELEM TOWER in Lisbon | Travel Photography #06
Did you ever see a PINK STREET? That's one of the many interesting things you can find in Lisbon!
Of course that place was on Irina's must-visit list, so we headed there in the late morning to shoot some street portraiture for her blog. ????
Definitely an interesting location, although it was pretty dirty (and noisy); I spent several hours in post to clean up the street and all the sorrounding area.
I love trying local food, but after some days I always start to miss Italian food.
Gladly we found an italian restaurant (ran by italians), where we had a really amazing pizza. ????
Anyway, this should be about travel photography, not travel food :D Let's get back to the business. ????
After a bit of relax we were that close to skip the sunset shooting, as the weather has been really gloomy for the whole day ☁️
As it was one of the last days in Lisbon I thought it was worth to try. I am so glad I did!
We rushed on a Uber to the location, and we arrived when the sunset was going on already ????(this usually never happens with me as I always arrive way ahead to the designated location).
I took out my camera, mounted everything, quickly set a composition and started shooting some long exposures.
As you can imagine the sunset lasted for only a few minutes, but I am so grateful to have been ready to capture this beautiful scene!

Lisbon aerial view - Lisboa vista do céu
Lisbon is an illuminated city. The almost constant presence of sunshine and the River Tagus transforms the Portuguese capital into a mirror of a thousand colours - highlighting the city’s unique architecture and beauty.
There are so many things to see and do in Lisbon that visitors have access to a wide array of different experiences.
As we flight through Lisbon - whose history spans back thousands of years – we find streets filled with heritage monuments, and characteristic neighbourhoods where the city first developed and can still be experienced at its most genuine level.
Visit Lisbon of the River Tagus, whose riverfront is dedicated to leisure activities and links the monumental zone of Belém.

Travel Photography in Lisbon
We arrived from Paris to Lisbon. Portugal after a travel day that was a bit longer than it seemed like it should be. We booked a flight to Lisbon from BVA airport in Paris, and didn't realize that it's a mission to get there. However, we made it in plenty of time despite our lack of planning.
After the quick flight, we landed in Portugal, and were greeted with a beautiful welcome to Lisbon. The city is so beautiful.
In the late evening, we finally pulled ourselves from some work to explore the city, get some drinks, and food. It feels so good to be back in Portugal, and I'm stoked to explore Lisbon a little bit more in the coming days.

25th April Bridge in LISBON | Travel Photography #07
The reason why you should be visiting Portugal for taking Travel Photography pictures is its incredible variety of landscapes. In today's episode you'll see what I am talking about! ????✨
Me and Irina spent the first part of the day exploring the coast around Sesimbra, which is just about 1 hour drive from Lisbon.????????
As soon as we arrived, there was a really strong wind, but I was so curious to see how the place was from above that I decided to fly my drone anyway (spoiler alert: bad idea).
After that we found an incredible spot for some landscape shots with the human element. ????
The weather was really lovely but it was time to go already, as I needed to shoot a view that I wanted to capture since quite some time: 25th April Bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril), one of the most beautiful landmarks of Lisbon.
With a lenght of 2,277 m is the perfect spot from which admiring the sunset in Lisbon. ????
The sky was incredibly colorful, and the kind of clouds called for my favorite kind of photography: Long Exposures of a cityscape!
