Gaoligonshan National Park Yunnan China patrolling mission part 1c

As part of the Forest Conservation and Community Development project (FCCDP) the Dutch advisor Mr. Willem Quist carried out a field trip to Gaoligongshan National Park in order to investigate patrolling techniques of the management staff and providing advice. Poaching, illegal grazing of cattle and lifestock, uncontrolled collection of forest products, illegal logging, forest fire and forest conversion into agricultural fields are all serious matters threatening this precious national park. In addition, rangers have the task to monitor biodiversity and the disturbance of ecosystems.

The Huaqing Spring is located about 35 kilometers east of Xi’an. Historically, during the Western Zhou Dynasty the construction of the Li Palace was undertaken on this spot.

Travelers associate Xi'an with the terracotta warriors, discovered in 1974. However, Xi'an has cultural offerings beyond the warriors' tourist magnet.
The magnitude of things to do and see range from walking the ancient wall that surrounds the inner city, performances of Beijing Opera, a thriving Muslim market and food venues, music played on the Er Hu (a two stringed instrument), art and calligraphy. The list is so extensive that it became impossible to do justice to Xi'an in a 4-5 minute video. Instead of limiting the Xi'an experience, the FAB team has created a 4 part series:

If you're in Xi'an to see the Terracotta Warriors, taking an extra day to explore Huashan is ABSOLUTELY worth it! It's one of the Five Great Mountains in China that have religious significance in Taoism. The signature look for the mountain is its tan/beige rock, covered in green. Aside from that, it's known for its Plank Walk - one of the most dangerous climbs in the world. Knowing China though, it's actually extremely safe to keep tourists coming. China Biosphere Reserve Network (CBRN) is a network established by the Chinese National Committee for UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme in 1993. Membership in the CBRN serves as a prerequisite for joining the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. At present there are 141 members in the CBRN, including 28 UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.
