Florence to Venice by Train | Italy Travel Vlog
Join as we head from Florence to Venice by train in this Italy travel vlog which also includes a full apartment tour of our airbnb in Florence as well as the new apartment we stayed at in Venice. Our day was spent killing a bit of time at our favorite pizzeria and small cafe at the train station in Florence before boarding our train. The two hour train ride from Florence to Venice went by quickly and featured some scenic winter views of snow blowing as we zoomed past rural areas. Upon arriving in Venice we checked into our airbnb before picking up our family friend Val who will be joining us for the rest of our travels through Europe.

Italy Train Travel from Florence to Venice | Apartment Tour of Florence + Venice Video Transcript:
We're going to give you the apartment tour. So come on in. There is a really long hallway. A corridor.
A corridor and into here. We have the living room. It was perfectly adequate. I mean we had a small table and four chairs. Tiny little couch. I mean for four people it was a bit cramped. We found the biggest complaint about this place is we felt like we were a little bit on top of each other. You know we were staying here for 6 nights.
It was a little bit crowded for 4 adults yeah but the views. Right. We chose this place for the views. We need to show you. The views and location were excellent. One more time.
The views and location were excellent also really appreciated this place had central heating. Because it was cold the entire time we were here. But we were nice and toasty inside. The entire time. If you look over here we had wine glasses and we made good use of those.
We did all of our cooking here. A little fridge. We had a kettle.
And the best part I would say the best feature of this of this apartment I should say was that we both had nice big bedrooms.
Today is another easy travel day. We are only going to take a 2 hour train. Heading to Venice and the nice thing is that we have well I wouldn't say it is so nice but we have a bit of time to kill so that means we can have a bit of a leisurely lunch. Pizza. We're going to go to that pizza place again just because we all like it. It is cheap. It is good and it is actually on the way to the train station.
So we've tried a few different pizzas here at this place but this is our first time to try the four cheese one. So I'm just going to flip it up. Flip it up.
And I'll just mention so for the four pizza slices and a couple of drinks we paid 15 Euros. It was a good deal.
So we arrived with 2 hours to kill. Yes. So we found a little cafe right in the train station. We're all having it does not have the most beautiful train station. Very little seating so we had to find a cafe. Yeah we were lucky to find this one.
We've got about 5 minutes to wait for our train here. So I thought I'd ask you what did you think of Florence? I think you liked it more than Rome right? Very much more than Rome. Very walkable, the art museums were very not crowded. We didn't feel like cattle in them. We learned from our mistakes we went early. When it first opened.
Hello from a bakery in Venice. Hello from a bakery in Venice. So we've arrived here. A nice short train ride. We've checked in and we're pekish.
Because our next transportation day is going to be really really long. Trains and ferries. So I think we'll actually give you a second apartment tour today.
Apartment tour. Because it is cool. It is cool and we're here. We've got another person joining us on the trip. One of my parents friends Val. She is flying in from BC.
We're just going to pick her up soon.
This is the first time we've had an apartment that has been two levels.
From now on it is going to be 5 travelers. Five of us for the rest of this trip in Europe. That is we're going to sign off because we actually have to get ready to pick her up soon. We'll see you guys on the next one. Thanks for watching. More videos from Venice soon.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

2 DAYS IN VENICE: The Floating City Of Canals & Bridges | Burano Island | 2019
VENICE: The Floating City Of Canals & Bridges | Burano Island | 2019
Wandering along the canals, crossing over 400 bridges that connect around 118 islands...through its beautifully imperfect corners, and admiring the colourful houses..wondering who lives there, or who has lived there for the past 500 years.
Finally got around to uploading this video. I was about to post it when the vibrant city was flooded last month, and I just couldn’t get myself to upload this. But now that Venice seem to be coping quite well, doing their best to get their movable water barriers fully operational. history tells us how strong this beautiful city and its people are.
Thank you so much for watching! If you are new here, welcome to my funsized channel! ????
If you have been following me on my funsized adventures for quite sometime, I can’t thank you enough for your support. All your feedbacks are always, always appreciated! ????

Rome – A city of staggering history and beauty. Check out its best sights in our travel video and start planning a trip of your own so you can become a part of the story.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Rome:
#Rome, the former Caput Mundi, or Capital of the World, sits beneath Palatine Hill, where the ruins of its original incarnation are open for exploration.
No #vacation is complete without stopping by the remains of the Temple of Saturn and Arch of Septimus, both located in the Roman Forum. Stop by the Colosseum, a relic of Roman bloodsports and perhaps the most recognizable element of the city.
Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure you’ll return to Rome one day; don’t toss in two coins unless you’re ready to fall in love with a Roman.
Continue your Rome #sightseeing in St. Peter’s Square, home of St. Peter’s Basilica. The world’s largest church, designed by Michelangelo, is both a remarkable structure and a tribute to faith. After this, it’s just a few steps to restaurants filled with Italian food. Forget coming back to Rome – you’ll never want to leave.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Top Things To Do in Venice, Italy 2020 | 4K
Hey Must Do Travelers! Today we are exploring the top things to do in Venice, Italy which is best known to have no roads - just water canals. Let’s go check out the top spots but first, if you are new to our channel be sure to Subscribe to Must Do Travels and hit the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
St Mark’s Square 0:43
St. Mark's Square is Venice’s central square where everyone comes together. Life has revolved around this square since the days of the Republic, when it was a market as well as the center of civic and religious life.
Rialto Bridge 1:11
The Rialto Bridge is the oldest of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal in Venice. Connecting the sestieri of San Marco and San Polo, the bridge has been rebuilt several times since its first construction in the 12th century, and is now a main tourist attraction in the city.
Grand Canal 1:48
The Grand Canal is the main waterway of Venice. Following a natural channel that traces a reverse-S course from Saint Mark’s Basilica to Santa Chiara Church, the canal divides the city into two parts.
Ponte Degli Scalzi 2:13
With the literal translation being the bridge of the barefoot monks in English, this bridge is one of only four bridges in Venice to span the Grand Canal. It was built back in 1934 and is standing strong to this day.
Saint Mark’s Basilica 2:47
The famous multi-domed church on Saint Mark's Square is one of Venice's top attractions and one of Italy's most beautiful cathedrals. With influences from Byzantine, Western European, and Islamic architecture, Saint Mark's Basilica is a true embodiment of Venice’s history.
Burano 3:25
The picturesque island of Burano is best known for its brightly colored fishermen's houses and its casual restaurants serving seafood right from the lagoon.
Bridge of Sighs 4:00
The Bridge of Sighs is one of the most iconic bridges in the world that was built originally to connect 2 prisons that were built in the 16th century. Today, the bridge has become a symbol of romance for lovers to visit.

Places Featured:
1) The Water Bus / Taxi (vaporetti)
The water bus is 8 euros for a one way ticket into San Marco square. You have to pay an extra fee for having luggage. It's a very stylish and convenient way to haul your luggage closer to your hotel or AirBnb.
2) Palazzo Vitturi
This was built in the second half of the 13th century. They have done a lot of remodeling since then. This place is really well maintained. Such a romantic place!
3) Grand Canal
During the first half of the 15th century, two rows of shops were built along side of the bridge. The rental income helps to maintain the bridge.
4) Doge’s palace
Doge’s Palace is the old home of the ruler of Venice (“Doge” is similar to a “Duke” and they were elected as ruler for life).
5) Bell tower of St. Mark
Also known as “St Mark’s Campanile,” this bell tower looms over the Piazza San Marco and it’s impossible to miss.
6) Clock Tower
Also known as St. Mark’s Clock Tower (Torre dell’Orologio), this structure is has been around since the 15th century.
7) Bridge of Sighs
The Bridge of Sighs – what a sad name. It was built in 1600 and it was called “the bridge of sighs” because it was the last thing that prisoners saw before they were hauled off to prison on the other side of the bridge.
8) Big hands
OK, I don’t think these giant hands are made during ancient times.
When you are walking along, it’s really surprising to see these 5000 lb giant hands!
9) Rialto Bridge
This is the oldest bridge that crosses the Grand Canal – it was built 800 years ago in the 12th century.
10) Saint Mark’s Basilica
St Mark’s Basilica, also known as “Church of Gold” (Chiesa d’Oro”) is a grand, opulent church that was finished in 1092.
As a tourist, my perspective of this place is a happy romantic getaway with lots of food and happy people walking around, but this is far from the true reality for real locals living in Venice. This place was once the most elegant and refined city in Europe and it was a taste-maker in the arts, architecture and literature.
You see lots of people walking around and sightseeing in the daytime but once night falls the city becomes a ghost town.
Many locals have moved away from Venice due to the higher rent costs and perhaps due to the possibility that it’s literally sinking into the ground.
Venice is now just a glorified one day vacation stop for tourism. Some even call it an expensive theme park.
The flood barrier that the city was supposed to build has been tied down for many years now due to government corruption. With everything Venice has against it, I really hope the people of Italy can come together to save a piece of their history. It would be sad to see Venice as a tourist “Disneyland” or worse, no longer existing at all.

Venice, Italy - Rialto Market HD (2015)
The Rialto is and has been for many centuries the financial and commercial centre of Venice. It is an area of the San Polo sestiere of Venice, Italy, also known for its markets and for the Rialto Bridge across the Grand Canal.
The area was settled by the ninth century, when a small area in the middle of the Realtine Islands on either side of the Rio Businiacus was known as the Rivoaltus, or high bank. Eventually the Businiacus became known as the Grand Canal, and the district the Rialto, referring only to the area on the left bank.
The Rialto became an important district in 1097, when Venice's market moved there, and in the following century a boat bridge was set up across the Grand Canal providing access to it. This was soon replaced by the Rialto Bridge. The bridge has since then become iconic, appearing for example in the seal of Rialto, California (The Bridge City).
The market grew, both as a retail and as a wholesale market. Warehouses were built, including the famous Fondaco dei Tedeschi on the other side of the bridge. Meanwhile, shops selling luxury goods, banks and insurance agencies appeared and the city's tax offices were located in the area. The city's abattoir was also in the Rialto.
Most of the buildings in the Rialto were destroyed in a fire in 1514, the sole survivor being the church San Giacomo di Rialto, while the rest of the area was gradually rebuilt. The Fabriche Vechie dates from this period, while the Fabbriche Nuove is only slightly more recent, dating from 1553. The statue Il Gobbo di Rialto was also sculpted in the sixteenth century.
The area is still a busy retail quarter, with the daily Erberia greengrocer market, and the fish market on the Campo della Pescheria.
The Rialto is also mentioned in works of literature, notably in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, where Shylock asks What news on the Rialto? at the opening of Act 1, Scene III, and Solanio in Act 3 Scene I poses the same question. In Sonnets from the Portuguese Sonnet 19, Elizabeth Barrett Browning writes that The soul's Rialto hath its merchandise....

One day in Venice
Venice
During the 18th century, Venice became perhaps the most elegant and refined city in Europe, greatly influencing art, architecture, and literature. But the Republic lost its independence when Napoleon Bonaparte conquered Venice on 12 May 1797 during the War of the First Coalition. Napoleon was seen as something of a liberator by the city's Jewish population, although it can be argued they had lived with fewer restrictions in Venice than elsewhere. He removed the gates of the Ghetto and ended the restrictions on when and where Jews could live and travel in the city.
Venice became Austrian territory when Napoleon signed the Treaty of Campo Formio on 12 October 1797. The Austrians took control of the city on 18 January 1798. Venice was taken from Austria by the Treaty of Pressburg in 1805 and became part of Napoleon's Kingdom of Italy. It was returned to Austria following Napoleon's defeat in 1814, when it became part of the Austrian-held Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia. In 1848 and 1849, a revolt briefly re-established the Venetian republic under Daniele Manin. In 1866, after the Third Italian War of Independence, Venice, along with the rest of the Veneto, became part of the newly created Kingdom of Italy.
Morning Impression along a Canal in Venice, Veneto, Italy by Rafail Levitsky (1896)
View from the Bridge of Sighs
During the Second World War, the historic city was largely free from attack, the only aggressive effort of note being Operation Bowler, a successful Royal Air Force precision strike on the German naval operations in the city in March 1945. The targets were destroyed with virtually no architectural damage inflicted on the city itself.[38] However, the industrial areas in Mestre and Marghera and the railway lines to Padua, Trieste, and Trento were repeatedly bombed.] On 29 April 1945, a force of British and New Zealand troops of the British Eighth Army, under Lieutenant General Freyberg, liberated Venice, which had been a hotbed of anti-Mussolini Italian partisan activity.

Back in Venice, Italy! This time around we're at, by far, my favorite pub in Venice - the Devil's Forest Pub, near to St. Mark's Square and a great watering for those hot, humid and crowded days in the city! This video shows us drinking three brews - Cankara Pale Ale, an Italian craft brew; Wieselburger Bier, an Austrian lager which is very light and nice for the hot weather; and finally Augustiner, a Munich brewery hard to come by in the USA - this is there standard export lager beer! So, hope you enjoy the video - stop by this pub if ever in Venice! Cheers!
