Yekaterinburg Drone Flight: Yekaterinburg is a city in Russia, east of the Ural Mountains. Its known for the golden-domed Church on the Blood, built in the early 21st century on the site of the 1918 Romanov executions. The Monument to the Founders stands by the banks of the Iset River. Exhibits at the nearby Sverdlovsk Regional Local Lore Museum include the Hall of the Romanovs, with personal items that belonged to the last royal family. The Museum of Stone-Cutting and Jewelry Art History, in a stately 19th-century building, has baroque and rococo pieces. Nearby, the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts showcases Russian and Western European works. The Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center has a museum with interactive displays and memorabilia from the 1990s. The leafy Literary Quarter is a collection of small museums, such as the Museum of Dolls and Childrens Books, some of which were the homes of noted local writers. According to the chronicles, Sviyazhsk was founded in 1551 by Khan Shahghali and the following year became the military base for Russian troops participating in the siege of Kazan. Located on the hilly island at the juncture of the Volga and Sviyaga rivers, for centuries it was considered one of the most well-guarded towns. Sviyazhsk is now being restored and rebuilt under a local government program.

Land of the Art:
Romanticism is born in XIX century. It is about the manifestation of feelings and sensations through art. It began in literature by the ideas of Goethe, Rousseau and Hegel. Ideals as revolution, nationalism, freedom, independence are the pillars of the romantic thinking. Historicism, coming back to the old forms, but reinterpreting it. Dramatic emotions, the sublime and ruins. Nostalgia for the past.
In Architecture happens the Historicisms, the Neo-movements. They are: neogothic, neoegyptian, neobyzantine, neorromanesque, neomudejar, neoarab, neorrenaissance, neobaroque, and neocolonial.
Neoegyptian, or Egyptian Revival, happened more in France, Russia and United States, and it was a recovery of the ancient Egypt forms.
Precedents: I’ve included some precedents. In baroque, Bernini used obelisks in the Fountain of the Four Rivers in the Piazza Navona (in image), and also in Saint Peter (I didn’t put image but you know what I mean). The drawing of the Mausoleum of Stillorgan was made by Edward Lovett Pearce, and it is very curious. Boullée, visionary, also made this egyptian cenotaph. I must remember too the use of pylons in the Propylae of Munich and the egyptian style of the facade of Thorvaldsen’s Museum. В гости к Идолам, чтобы узнать кому принадлежала земля, сегодня входящая в состав Красноярского края много сотен лет назад, как жили первые поселенцы и откуда брались уникальные предметы, найденные археологами во время раскопок.
Мы расскажем вам почему не смогли жить в этих местах кыргызы и познакомим с хранителями этих мест.
Каменное изваяние и петроглиф расположены у вершины (300 м) поросшей лесом горы, на левом берегу реки, в двух километрах выше устья. В центре скального массива, в глубине естественного коридора, из глыбы песчаника выбито изображение головы человека с четко выраженными монголоидными чертами. Ориентировка лица - на юго-восток. Высота изваяния - 152 см, наибольшая ширина в районе глаз - 35 см, у основания - 45 см.
Его окружают высокие деревья, у нескольких из них вершины расщеплены молнией. Причина в том, что и поныне в этом месте наблюдаются магнитные аномалии. Рядом с изваянием находится скала с выбитой на ней человеческой личиной. Трактовка личины необычна - длинные «закрытые» узкие глаза и «третий глаз» на лбу. Нос обрисован вертикальной линией, точкой показаны ноздри, рот обозначен горизонтальной полоской, края которого загнуты кверху. Датировка изваяния и личины - бронзовый век.
Omsk, un buen alto en mi viaje transiberiano.
Luego de haber partido de la estación de Ekaterimburgo , la primera ciudad donde me detengo es Omsk, y me alojo en el “Milleniun Hostel” a menos de dos cuadras de la verde estación de trenes y por 500 rublos (U$S 7,70) tengo una muy buena cama. Para ir hasta el centro, camino por una kilométrica costanera a orillas del rio Irtysh.
Me encuentro en una ciudad típicamente rusa, edificios rectangulares de departamentos de la época comunista, una avenida de edificios zaristas, iglesias ortodoxas y varias estatuas no solo de Lenin sino también en bronce, personajes de la ciudad y situaciones de la vida cotidiana, ¡muy lindas!. Tiene una gran cantidad de museos, y actividad cultural, aquí es donde fuera encarcelado tres años Fiodor Dostoyevsky por cuestiones políticas y religiosas. Si bien la ciudad supera el millón de habitantes tiene su ritmo tranquilo y sin aglomeraciones de turistas o de viajeros. Un buen alto en mi viaje transiberiano.

Oscar proposes flying to the town of Naryan-mar beyond the Arctic Circle, but Glen has had enough of winter and refuses to go. Though Oscar tempts him with the prospect of preparing some tasty reindeer dishes, Glen puts his foot down, saying he can find something as exotic to make closer to Moscow. In the end, the pair agrees to separate and compete to come up with the most surprising culinary creation.
Though Oscar arrives in Naryan-mar at 2:30 in the afternoon, it’s already dark due to the polar night. However, things soon look brighter when he’s greeted at a museum by traditional folk singers and even encounters a northern Shaman.
Meanwhile, Glen gets into the arctic spirit at a theme park called ‘Ethno-World’, where he manages to take a husky ride, despite a lack of snow.
Oscar finally gets down to business and, with the help of a reindeer chef, churns out venison carpaccio, a venison steak, and reindeer fillets smothered in a creamy mushroom sauce. Glen also swings into action, whipping up an authentic Russian vinaigrette salad with herring.
At the end of the day, Oscar just can’t believe Glen missed out on such a delicious and unusual feast. While Glen is surprised at how much he likes the fruit of his labour, he begins to think Oscar was right – it’s time to hop on a plane and head north.

SCRIPT
The third Jewish ethnographic expedition across Russia, organised by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, kicked off in Moscow, Thursday.
During a three weeks journey, Rabbis and yeshiva students from United States, Europe and Israel will visit local communities in more than 70 Russian cities on board three so-called 'Mitzvah tanks', camper vans operating as mobile synagogues.
The main goal of the expedition is to awaken the interest of Jews to the knowledge and traditions of Jewish people. Rabbis hold lectures, lessons and video presentations displaying Jewish religious books and traditional religious paraphernalia such as the mezuzah and the tefillin.

The USSR anti-religious campaign of 1928–1941 was a new phase of anti-religious persecution in the Soviet Union following the anti-religious campaign of 1921–1928. The campaign began in 1929, with the drafting of new legislation that severely prohibited religious activities and called for a heightened attack on religion in order to further disseminate atheism. This had been preceded in 1928 at the fifteenth party congress, where Joseph Stalin criticized the party for failure to produce more active and persuasive anti-religious propaganda. This new phase coincided with the beginning of the forced mass collectivization of agriculture and the nationalization of the few remaining private enterprises.
Many of those who had been arrested in the 1920s would continue to remain in prison throughout the 1930s and beyond.
The main target of the anti-religious campaign in the 1920s and 1930s was the Russian Orthodox Church, which had the largest number of faithful. Nearly all of its clergy, and many of its believers, were shot or sent to labour camps. Theological schools were closed, and church publications were prohibited. More than 85,000 Orthodox priests were shot in 1937 alone. Only a twelfth of the Russian Orthodox Church's priests were left functioning in their parishes by 1941.In the period between 1927 and 1940, the number of Orthodox Churches in the Russian Republic fell from 29,584 to less than 500.The campaign slowed down in the late 1930s and early 1940s, and came to an abrupt end after the commencement of Operation Barbarossa. The challenge produced by the German invasion would ultimately prevent the public withering away of religion in Soviet society.This campaign, like the campaigns of other periods that formed the basis of the USSR's efforts to eliminate religion and replace it with atheism supported with a materialist world view, was accompanied with official claims that there was no religious persecution in the USSR, and that believers who were being targeted were for other reasons. Believers were in fact being widely targeted and persecuted for their belief or promotion of religion, as part of the state's campaign to disseminate atheism, but officially the state claimed that no such persecution existed and that the people being targeted - when they admitted that people were being targeted - were only being attacked for resistance to the state or breaking the law. This guise served Soviet propaganda abroad, where it tried to promote a better image of itself especially in light of the great criticism against it from foreign religious influences.

The Train Station Latvians 1937 part 3

A national census that was conducted in the Soviet Union in 1926 found 151,410 Latvians living there. 18,346 of them lived in Leningrad and its environs, 10,583 were in the Pskov District, 10,167 worked in Moscow, and 35,069 were living in Siberia. There were at least 372 Latvian colonies in the USSR with 12,000 farms.
Latvians have scattered around to all of the corners of the earth over the last several centuries. Some were driven out for refusing to obey the powers that prevailed. Some had a visions of a better life, while still others fled war and revolution. It was not always the case that these emigres found an easier life for themselves, but there was only one place where a thorough anti-Latvian campaign was waged. There, each and every Latvian was treated as a spy, a traitor and an enemy who deserved to be tortured and then shot. These were the repressions which were waged in Soviet Russia in 1937, where the horror and pathological thinking of the regime turned some Latvians into betrayers and murderers of their own kind.
The Latvian Operation began with orders issued on November 30, 1937, by Nikolai Yezhov, head of Stalin's feared secret police, the NKVD. A total of 22,360 people were arrested, and 74% were put to death. The main target for the operation was Latvians, but Soviet citizens of other nationalities who were accused of spying on Latvia's behalf also fell victim to the purge. Most of the victims, however, were innocents whose only guilt was to be Latvian in the Soviet Union. The heroes of this film are the heirs to people who fell victim to Stalin's great purges. They were interviewed in Moscow, Kemerovo, the Krasnoyarsk District, and also Latvia.
