Fun at the State Mine
With permission today I went for a fly around the State Mine museum in Lithgow. These are the fun outtakes flying the DJI Phantom 2, but it does need a bit of work to remove jello which has crept in now due to a couple of prop strikes in recent weeks (One is in the video - oops, I ALMOST made it!!)
No staff members were around, so I could safely fly through the structures with no fear of hurting the structures themselves or people in the area.

4917 & 4827 Lithgow State Mine branch line NSW. Thu 12th Dec 2019
4917 maybe the lead unit but it's not running, it's dead attached, 4827 is being used for the motive power as the jumper lead and air are through, and thus providing power to the two light engine movement as they meander across the Inch Street bridge along the Lithgow State Mine branch line towards Eskbank Yard, their final destination. 4827 has undergone a major service at Lithgow Railway Workshops (at the end of the branch line), after a traction motor change earlier in the week, before being returned to Sydney Trains on Saturday 14th of December 2019. The bush fire smoke is quite thick, a low speed restriction applies to this branch line hence the near walking pace crawl. The pair meander past a former steam engine watering point, tank tower (rusted out) and platform, in 10 days time this area was totally burnt out by the bush fires that ravaged Lithgow. 0920hrs Thursday 12th December 2019.

Lithgow: An amazing Industrial revolution town
Lithgow NSW is a town with a colourful industrial past. The birthplace of Australia's steel industry, the home of a small arms factory crucial through two World Wars. And that's just the start of the story. FULL STORY:

The Old Lithgow Blast Furnace NSW Australia
The Lithgow Blast Furnace is a place of State significance. It is the birthplace of the modern iron and steel industry and is able to demonstrate industrial processes now lost due to the extent of remaining fabric and documents. It is rare as a survivor of Lithgow's early industrial heritage in its completeness and as an example of early iron smelting works. The rarity of this place is in the fact of its survival as the fast significant industrial site in the town. Other industries left little visible heritage: the steelworks site is entirely barren; the power houses have gone; the copper srneiters, woollen mills, and potteries have left no traces; the coal industry which made the other industries possible is now represented only by the State Mine and the Oakey Park Mine, both on the periphery of the valley.

Burragorang Lookout and the sleepy town of The Oaks, New South Wales Australia
Burragorang or Burragorang Valley is a locality in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia, in Wollondilly Shire. It is home to Lake Burragorang, which is impounded by Warragamba Dam. It is located within the Blue Mountains National Park – specifically the Nattai National Park.
In 1827, the town of Burragorang was established as a mining town and up to the 1960s was a major supplier of coal. Moreover, lead and silver had also been mined in the valley until about 1927.
With the boom of Sydney's population after World War II, Warragamba Dam was constructed between 1948 and 1960 on the Warragamba River, inundating the Burragorang Valley, creating Lake Burragorang. Consequently, the town of Burragorang and others like it in the valley were lost under water.
The area around Burragorang and Nattai had been home to numerous collieries from the 1920s to the 1990s, such as the Nattai-Bulli, Oakleigh, Wollondlly, Nattai North and Valley collieries. It is estimated 72 million tonnes of coal was mined in the Burragorang-Nattai region.
The Oaks is a town in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia in Wollondilly Shire on the south western edge of the Sydney Basin. The Oaks is located 76 kilometres (47 mi) south-west of Sydney via the Hume Highway, 13 kilometres (8 mi) west of Camden and 290m above sea-level. At the 2011 census, The Oaks and the surrounding area had a population of 2,439 people.
Despite a long-standing economic dependence upon coal mining and despite the urban development inspired by its proximity to Sydney, The Oaks has essentially remained an attractive semi-rural district.
