Little India in Singapore - Singapore attractions - Top things to do in Singapore - Travel Vlog
Singapore Travel Vlog. Singapore 4K Videos. We are in Little India, one of Singapore´s main tourist attractions and a must visit attraction when in Singapore. If you ask the question What to See in Singapore or What are the top attractions in Singapore, then Little India is definitely one of those top attractions well worth a visit. This is a walking tour through the streets of Singapore´s Little India, with limited commentary.
Our walk (with Maxi and Maro) begins at the Little India MRT Station where we make our way down Buffalo Road past a lovely selection of Indian shops, Indian Restaurants and other Indian businesses until we reach the end of the road where the Tekka Centre is located. From here we cross over Serangoon Road over to the Cambell Lane walking Street which is where the Little India Arcade is located. As you walk down the streets you see traditional Hindu items for sale, we just loved the beautifully made flower garlands used for Hindu worship (In India, worship of God is called Pooja). Our walk continues through little India with views of Dunlop Street, Serangoon Road again, Kerbau Road and Belilios Road where we stop to have a look at the Hindu Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, one of Singapore´s oldest temples built in 1881. The Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali, fierce embodiment of Shakti and the god Shiva's wife, Parvati (wiki). The Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is indeed one of Singapore´s top attractions in itself. After viewing the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple from various angles we have a quick peek down Roberts Lane, before making our way towards the Mustafa Department Store a 24 hour open massive department store. The Mustafa Centre is without doubt a must see attraction in Singapore´s Little India and we would also classify the Mustafa Centre as one of Singapore's Top Attractions! Our tour ends as we make our way towards the Farrer Park MRT Station.

Bugis Street Info:
Bugis, in Singapore, was renowned internationally from the 1950s to the 1980s for its nightly gathering of transvestites and transsexuals, a phenomenon which made it one of Singapore's top tourist destinations during that period.
In the mid-1980s, Bugis Street underwent major urban redevelopment into a retail complex of modern shopping malls, restaurants and nightspots mixed with regulated back-alley roadside vendors. Underground digging to construct the Bugis MRT station prior to that also caused the upheaval and termination of the nightly transgender sex bazaar culture, marking the end of a colorful and unique era in Singapore's history.
Today, the original Bugis Street is now a cobblestoned, relatively wide avenue sandwiched between the buildings of the Bugis Junction shopping complex. On the other hand, the lane presently touted as Bugis Street by the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board is actually developed from New Bugis Street, formerly Albert Street, and is billed as the largest street-shopping location in Singapore. An attempt by the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board to bring back the former exotic atmosphere was unsuccessful. Although the street is now not a well-known tourist destination, it is frequented by many Singaporeans

LITTLE INDIA GUIDE IN SINGAPORE: Where to Stay + What To Do
I had the lovely pleasure to stay at The Wanderlust Hotel in Singapore. James and I were invited to stay at a Treehouse themed room at The Wanderlust Hotel in Little India in Singapore. This boutique hotel is a 4 story building with each room being themed differently. Anything from staying at a spaceship room that’ll make you feel like you’re in a real life star wars movie, to a giant typewriter themed room with your couch as the keys, and even a pop art themed room feeling like you live inside of a cartoon! This a great place to stay if you like to stay somewhere trendy with high quality comfort. Each room tells a story and will create a memorable experience for you. This hotel is very very popular right now amongst the Singaporeans for a staycation! After staying here, I totally understand why now!

Little India Singapore Info:
Little India is an ethnic district in Singapore. It is located east of the Singapore River—across from Chinatown, located west of the river—and north of Kampong Glam. Both areas are part of the urban planning area of Rochor. Little India is commonly known as Tekka in the Indian Singaporean community.
Little India is distinct from the Chulia Kampong area, which, under the Raffles Plan of Singapore, was originally a division of colonial Singapore where ethnic Indian immigrants would reside under the British policy of ethnic segregation. However, as Chulia Kampong became more crowded and competition for land escalated, many ethnic Indians moved into what is now known as Little India. (The Chulia Kampong district no longer exists as a distinct area.)
The Little India area is reported to have developed around a former settlement for Indian convicts. Its location along the Serangoon River originally made it attractive for raising cattle, and trade in livestock was once prominent in the area. Eventually, other economic activity developed, and by the turn of the 20th century, the area began to look like an ethnic Indian neighbourhood.
Although ethnic Indians no longer tend to stay solely segregated in one place as previously arranged under the modern People's Action Party (PAP) policy of racial harmony, for the sake of cultural heritage, many of the ethnically Indian commercial or cottage industry usages are concentrated in Little India (although Indian-dominant commercial zones are also found in HDB estates). Contrary to stereotypes, Little India is not solely an Indian neighbourhood. Located in the neighbourhood alongside shops that cater predominantly to the Indians are Chinese clan associations, places of worship of different religions, and a variety of different business ranging from electrical supplies, hardware, second-hand goods alongside traditional spice grinders and grocers. One of the more prominent examples of cross-cultural patronage besides those regarding food is that many Chinese parents go to shops in Little India to grind rice to make congee for infants. The machinery used in this instance was initially flown in from India to grind spices into powder for use in Indian cuisine. Little India differs from many other neighbourhoods in Singapore in many ways. Tekka Market is also multi-cultural, with produce and sundries that cater to the many ethnic groups in Singapore.

Singapore. Great Street Food from India in Tekka Hawker Centre
Tekka Centre is a landmark in the neighbourhood, serving up large dishes of fresh food to visitors and locals only steps away from the MRT at Little India. This bright yellow and orange warehouse was renovated a couple of years ago and has quickly become a hub for those in search of decent food at honest prices. It stands out from the rest of the hawker centres in Singapore, serving predominantly Indian food, including a great number of Halal dishes.
Inside it is set up like any other hawker centre, with rows of individual stores and tables around them, so you can grab a variety of dishes to try.
There is plenty of food to suit all palettes whether you hanker after rich curries or a simple dish of duck and rice. There are plenty of stalls to choose from, so follow the crowds and delicious smells.
Favourites include a spicy biyriani from Yakader nasi briyani, tender mutton with spiced rice and a portion size big enough to share. If you enjoy flatbread, check out the roti murtabak, try prata saga sambal berlada – an over-sized griddled dough filled with chicken, mutton or sardines and served with a side of spicy gravy and cucumbers.
There are also plenty of drinks to be had, freshly squeezed lime soda, juices made to your exact specifications.
Tekka Centre may not have all the frills of some of the other hawker centres in Singapore, but it does offer a great choice, including some rather unusual dishes, and a visit here is a fantastic way to experience Little India on a plate.

SINGAPORE BUS DEATH SPARKS A RIOT - BBC NEWS
Subscribe to BBC News youtube.com/bbcnews
27 people have been arrested after clashes between rioters and police near Singapores's city centre. About 400 people took to the streets of the commercial district known as Little India, after a Indian construction worker was hit and killed by a bus. The Singapore Prime Minister has issued a statement calling the riot an isolated incident caused by an unruly mob.. which we must not allow to tarnish our views of the foreign worker community.

Tekka Centre Singapore Walking Tour | Cheap Shopping in Singapore | Indian Market in Singapore
Tekka Centre is a multi-use building complex comprising a wet market, food centre and shops, located in the northern corner of Bukit Timah Road and Serangoon Road, in Little India, Singapore
Part wet market, part food centre and part shopping mall, Tekka Centre is a place where several ethnic communities converge to create a multicultural shopping fiesta. Established in 1915, Tekka Centre moved to its current location in 1982 and is a landmark in Little India.
Tekka Centre is a dining landmark in the Little India neighbourhood, serving up large dishes of fresh food to visitors and locals just steps away from the Little India MRT station. Housed in a colourful warehouse, it has quickly become a hub for those in search of decent food at honest prices.
The hawker centre stands out from the rest of the others spread throughout Singapore, serving predominantly Indian food as well as a great number of halal dishes. You’ll hardly miss the Tekka Centre – it’s the large building outside the MRT at Little India, which gets repainted every so often (once bright emerald green, then orange and yellow).
Inside, Tekka Centre is set up like any other hawker centre, with rows of individual stores and tables around them, so you can grab a variety of dishes to try. If you want to experience a genuine local shopping experience, head upstairs after you’ve eaten.
The higher floors sell everything from Bollywood music to silk for saris. There is plenty of food to suit all palates, whether you hanker after rich curries or a simple dish of duck and rice. There are plenty of stalls to choose from, so follow the crowds and delicious smells.
For those with a sweet tooth it is worth hunting down the much sought-after chi kak kueh, they may not be much to look at, with a sludge green covering and pale rice centre, but the filling is a paste of sugared mung beans that will leave you wanting more.
There are also plenty of drinks to be had, freshly squeezed lime soda, juices made to your exact specifications, or if you come later in the day you can even have a beer.
Tekka Centre may not have all the frills of some of the other hawker centres in Singapore, but it does offer a great choice, including some rather unusual dishes, and a visit here is a fantastic way to experience Little India on a plate.

Little India is the heart of Singapore’s Indian community. Its a commercial hub for Indians goods and anything related to India and Indians. Lots of streets name are given by the personalities who once lived in the area, like Dunlop Street and Clive Street.
At present day, you can find indian flower shops to indian restaurant, Its a glorified India in a mini way. Its clean, not like Indian streets.

Hindu Temple In Little India, Singapore
We just happened across this Hindu ritual. A few minutes after this the temple was closed.
THAIPUSAM in Little India SINGAPORE - Incredible Hindu festival
Thaipusam | Little India, Singapore is full of faith, music, and brave men during Thaipusam 2019. The Singapore Tamil community gives thanks during the Thaipusam Festival. This is a Hindu festival celebrated on the full moon day in the Tamil month of “Thai”, and Tamils celebrate Lord Murugan. What a fantastic day to be in Singapore!
In this vlog, we witness one of the most important days for the Tamil community in Singapore: Thaipusam (or Thaipoosam). We visit Little India, see the preparations at Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple on Serangoon Road and follow the procession. We also see other attractions and things to do in Little India, such as Mustafa Center, and the House of Tan Teng Niah. This is the third video in this Singapor series. Watch since the beginning:
More about Thaipusam:
- Thaipusam (or Thaipoosam) is a festival celebrated by the Tamil and Malayali communities
- The word Thaipusam is a combination of the name of the month, Thai, and the name of a star, Pusam. This particular star is at its highest point during the festival.
- The festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a Vel spear so he could defeat the evil demon Soorapadman.
- As surprising as it might sound, devotees don't bleed while pierced. It's believed it's due to their faith

► WHO AM I?
Short answer: I am a Brazilian journalist living in the United States. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!
Long answer: ????
P.S.: The guy who occasionally appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and is extremely shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time ;-)
