Places to see in ( Torquay - UK)
Torquay is a seaside resort town on the English Channel in Devon, south west England. Known for beaches such as Babbacombe and cliffside Oddicombe, its coastline is nicknamed the English Riviera. Torquay Harbour near the town centre offers shops, cafes and a marina. Torre Abbey, a monastery founded in 1196, has art galleries and extensive gardens featuring plants from local writer Agatha Christie's novels.
Torquay is a seaside town in Devon, England, part of the unitary authority area of Torbay. Torquay lies 18 miles (29 km) south of the county town of Exeter and 28 miles (45 km) east-north-east of Plymouth, on the north of Tor Bay, adjoining the neighbouring town of Paignton on the west of the bay and across from the fishing port of Brixham.
Torquay economy, like Brixham's, was initially based upon fishing and agriculture, but in the early 19th century it began to develop into a fashionable seaside resort, initially frequented by members of the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars while the Royal Navy anchored in the bay. Later, as the town's fame spread, it was popular with Victorian society. Renowned for its healthful climate, the town earned the nickname the English Riviera.
The writer Agatha Christie was born in the town and lived there during her early years and there is an Agatha Christie Mile, a tour with plaques dedicated to her life and work.
Torquay has two railway stations. Torquay railway station is situated near the sea, close to Torre Abbey Sands. Torre railway station is situated a little inland adjacent to the road leading to Newton Abbot. Torquay is connected to the UK motorway network by the A380, which traces the outskirts of the town as Hellevoetsluis Way and Hamelin Way, leading to the A38 and the M5 at Exeter.

Haunted ~Lidwell Chapel
The rolling hills of Devon are steeped in mystery and intrigue with numerous strange myths and legends stretching back down through the centuries. None is so gruesome however as the tale of the murderous monk who inflicted carnage on the secluded valley where his chapel was situated.Even more disturbing however is the revelation that there is more than an element of truth in the story. So much so that it is probable that this Devonian man of the cloth is England's first documented serial killer. On the slopes of Haldon Hill lie the remains of Lidwell Chapel, the site of one of Devon's more macabre tales. The name, Lidwell, is actually a corruption of 'Lady's Well' and the chapel is dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. Like so many other churches and chapels, it was built on what was formerly a pagan place of worship, a sacred well, probably dedicated to the goddess of spring. There is, too, evidence of the original well and this can be seen in a corner of the grounds. This isolated ruin, adjacent to farmland and situated to the northwest of Teignmouth, was, in medieval times, the focal point of a small settlement and leper sanctuary where the monks could provide care for the sufferers, all of whom would be compelled to live outside their community. The legend concerns one monk in particular, a hermit or recluse who lived at Lidwell during the early part of the fourteenth century. This man is said to have lured passing travellers into the chapel where he would rob them, murder them and dispose of their bodies by throwing them down the well. In support of the legend, the Bishop's register of the year 1329 contains an entry relating to the execution of a Hermit Monk who had been convicted of murder. In support of the legend, the Bishop's register of the year 1329 contains an entry relating to the execution of a Hermit Monk who had been convicted of murder.
To visit the site take the Exeter road (A379) from Teignmouth, pass the Teignmouth golf course on the left and park in the parking area on the right hand side of the road. Walk back about 200 yards to a footpath on your left. Climb over an iron bar and take the track veering right to drop steeply down into a wood. At the fenceline a stile takes you into a steep field. The chapel is about 50 yards downhill to the left.

The Entertainer 2019 UK Tour Review Curve Theatre Shane Richie John Osborne
The Break A Leggers review the press night of the 2019 UK Tour of The Entertainer at the Curve Theatre Leicester.
For the first time since its original premiere in 1957, John Osborne’s classic is given a vibrant new setting and a new vision in director Sean O’Connor’s production.
Shane Richie takes on the role of Archie Rice, memorably created both on stage and screen by Laurence Olivier, and is joined by Diana Vickers and the Olivier award-winning, Sara Crowe.
Archie Rice is a junkshop of stereotypical male frailties: someone who hits the bottle a little too hard and dodges taxes a little too often. Despite being a washed-up showman playing the Summer season in 1980’s Britain, he is determined that the show must go on – even if no one is there to see it.
Away from the glamour of Archie Rice’s life in showbiz, home-life is hardly a star-studded affair. As Archie’s dysfunctional family continues to fall to pieces, his son dangerously sails with the Task Force to liberate the Falklands whilst his daughter actively campaigns against the war.
