Littlehampton is a seaside resort and pleasure harbour, and the most populous civil parish in the Arun District of West Sussex, England. Littlehampton lies on the English Channel on the eastern bank of the mouth of the River Arun. Littlehampton is 51.5 miles (83 km) south south-west of London, 19 miles (31 km) west of Brighton and 10 miles (16 km) east of the county town of Chichester.
Littlehampton is on the A259, though this bypasses most of the town. Littlehampton is connected to the A27 south coast trunk road by the A284, which also provides the main north-south route out of the town and links to the A29 and A24. The A27 also later links with the M27. The A280 also links Littlehampton to the A24 and is a main route from the north-east.
Littlehampton is served by three railway stations, Littlehampton railway station, Angmering railway station and Ford railway station. Trains services from Littlehampton railway station are provided by Southern and occasionally First Great Western, with direct services to Brighton, London Victoria, Gatwick Airport, East Croydon, Bognor Regis, Chichester, Portsmouth and Southampton.
The Littlehampton Ferry, is a ferry linking the east & west parts of the River Arun together. The Ferry operates from 31 March – 30 September between 10am & 5pm. The Ferry Company also provide harbour tours on the hour.
Littlehampton's port is based around the River Arun, which opens onto the English Channel. A small stretch of this, 5 miles out to sea and 6 miles wide, is locally known as the Littlehampton Channel. Littlehampton started as a fishing port but now is a thriving port for thousands of leisure craft which visit from all over the UK and Europe. In 2009, use of leisure craft at Littlehampton rose to the extent that at least 200 more moorings were required. Littlehampton is also a commercial port, handling around 50–60 ships a year from Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France with cargo including marine aggregates, stone, marble chippings and timber.
The East Beach Cafe, designed by Heatherwick Studio, opened on the seafront of Littlehampton's east beach in July 2007. Littlehampton is home to Britain's longest bench. The Look and Sea centre includes the Harbour Lights café and an observation tower.
Harbour Park is at the entrance of the River Arun with two restaurants, two arcades, a rollercoaster, log flume and other attractions. Norfolk Gardens, a multi-purpose outdoor site owned by Inspire Leisure, is further along the promenade.
Littlehampton harbour (see also Littlehampton Port above) is on the River Arun at the western side of the town, with yacht moorings. Also on the west bank of the river are Littlehampton Redoubt and Climping sand dunes.

Saturday 20th October 2018 was a cracking weather so we went sea fishing from a boat, not a lot of fish were caught but here are some of the highlights.

Littlehampton Caravan & Motorhome Club site visit, Beachy Head & Hayling Island | UK Motorhome Tips
In an effort to avoid moving house, we ran away in the motorhome for the weekend!! We visit the Littlehampton Caravan & Motorhome Club site, Beachy Head, Battle Abbey & Hayling Island in our Swift Bessacarr 496 Motorhome.
I really don't like moving, as anyone who follows me on Twitter will know! ( So we ran away to the beach.... except that it was raining! Instead, we stopped at the Littlehampton Caravan & Motorhome Club Site which was lovely, even in the rain. Hope a quick look around helps anyone looking to book there.
It was still raining when we left, so we avoided the beach again and decided to turn our Motorhome to the East. We had no plan, but then we spotted a sign for Beachy Head - I've always wanted to go there. The clouds spoilt the view a bit but the cliffs were spectacular- hope you enjoy the drone shots!
We then visited Herstmonceux Castle, which was unfortunately closed to any more visitors that day, so we drove on to Battle (site of the 1066 Battle of Hastings!) Got some more great drone shots, despite the low clouds.
In the end, we decided to risk the beach anyway, so headed back to Hayling Island. There is motorhome parking on the seafront- and what a view we had!! The sunset was spectacular!

In 2017, our family travelled Europe in a motorhome. When we returned, we decided we liked it so much we wanted to do it again! So we traded in the van for a bigger model, quit (one of) our jobs and in 2018 we're heading off to explore Europe again- proper RV living!

Littlehampton Miniature Railway Friday 27th December 2019
A afternoon visit to Littlehampton Miniature Railway on Friday 27th December 2019.
The reason for this visit was to see 12 inch gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway B Class 0-4-0STT Sherpa from the Fairbourne Railway, is visiting on-loan for the line's Santa Special as well normal timetable service.

Just a little snippet of our fun family day out to Littlehampton, UK. We've been to Littlehampton a couple of times now and we really like it there. Theres so much to do, theres the beach, the funfair, an arcade, great crabbing and the best seaside fish and chips.
Its really great for a fun day out with the family and its only an hour and a half from SW London (where we live).

Whilst on a visit to Littlehampton we found the miniature railway that runs for 1/2 mile along the seafront and between parks on Sunday 24th February 2019.
The locomotive working the half-hourly service was Diesel-Electric Albert.

Swanage is a coastal town and civil parish in the south east of Dorset, England. Swanage is situated at the eastern end of the Isle of Purbeck, approximately 6 ¹⁄₄ miles south of Poole and 25 miles east of Dorchester. Nearby are Ballard Down and Old Harry Rocks, with Studland Bay and Poole Harbour to the north. Within the parish are Durlston Bay and Durlston Country Park to the south of the town. The parish also includes the areas of Herston, just to the west of the town, and Durlston, just to the south.
Swanage , originally a small port and fishing village, flourished in the Victorian era, when it first became a significant quarrying port and later a seaside resort for the rich of the day. Today the town of Swanage remains a popular tourist resort, this being the town's primary industry, with many thousands of visitors coming to the town during the peak summer season, drawn by the bay's sandy beaches and other attractions.
During its history the bay was listed variously as Swanawic, Swanwich and Sandwich, and only in more recent history as Swanage. The town is located at the eastern end of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site. The town contains many listed buildings and two conservation areas – Swanage Conservation Area and Herston Conservation Area.
Swanage has a gently sloping white sand beach which is sheltered and generally calm. The beach is well served by local businesses providing refreshments and services. For hire are deck chairs, boats, pedalos and general watersports equipment. There are amusement arcades and parks. Besides the beach, there are other local attractions including the restored Swanage steam railway and the Victorian pier. The town may also be used a base from which to visit other nearby areas of interest, such as Corfe Castle.
Swanage is accessible by main road either through Wareham and its bypass or via the Sandbanks Ferry which provides a shorter route to Bournemouth. There is a minor road connecting Swanage to East Lulworth via Corfe Castle but this passes through a military firing range and is closed during firing exercises. The main bus services are provided by Wilts & Dorset. Number 40 runs between Swanage and Poole, number 44 between Swanage and the nearby village of Worth Matravers (via Harmans Cross), and the number 50 runs between Swanage and Bournemouth via the Sandbanks Ferry.
Swanage has a King George's Field near the centre of town in memorial to King George V, which includes large playing fields, as well as skate park facilities and a hi-tech play area, both funded by community groups. Swanage bay provides a well sheltered environment for a range of watersports, including swimming, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and jetskiing.
