Exploring Norris Castle (East Cowes, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom)
This is some film of Norris Castle in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The castle was built in 1799 by the architect James Wyatt and sits on an estate of 225 acres. It was purchased over a year ago by a property developer looking to turn it into a luxury hotel. The interior contains an old kitchen with a mechanical spit roast system, two ice houses, a stable, cave art and a wine cellar. The castle will require a lot of work to get it into a luxury hotel standard.

Cowes Floating Bridge - East Cowes Side - Isle Of Wight Chain Ferry - June 2018 | kittikoko
The Cowes Floating Bridge is a vehicular chain ferry which crosses the River Medina on the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England. The ferry crosses the tidal river from East Cowes to Cowes. The first floating bridge between East Cowes and Cowes was established in 1859 and is one of the few remaining that has not been replaced by a physical bridge. The service is owned and operated by the Isle of Wight Council, who have run it since 1901. Prior to ownership by the local authority the service was run by The Floating Bridge Company and The Steam Packet Company (Red Funnel). The ferry currently used is named No. 6, the sixth to be owned by the Isle of Wight Council, and ninth in total. It was built in 2017 and can carry up to 20 cars. The Cowes floating bridge remains the only way to cross the River Medina between the towns without taking a ten-mile trip via Newport. The current vessel was built in 2017 and upon completion was installed on 14 May 2017. However, after a string of technical issues the service was suspended by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and a passenger-only replacement service provided by a small launch. After several months of service suspension and intermittent operation, full service finally resumed early in 2018.

Places to see in ( Cowes - UK )
Places to see in ( Cowes - UK )
Cowes is an English seaport town and civil parish on the Isle of Wight. Cowes is located on the west bank of the estuary of the River Medina, facing the smaller town of East Cowes on the east bank. The two towns are linked by the Cowes Floating Bridge, a chain ferry.
Charles Godfrey Leland's 19th century verses describe the towns poetically as The two great Cowes that in loud thunder roar/This on the eastern, that the western shore. Cowes has been seen as a home for international yacht racing since the founding of the Royal Yacht Squadron in 1815. It gives its name to the world's oldest regular regatta, Cowes Week, which occurs annually in the first week of August. Later, powerboat races are held. Much of the town's architecture is still heavily influenced by the style of ornate building that Prince Albert popularised.
Industry in both Cowes and East Cowes has always centred on the building and design of marine craft and materials associated with boat-making, including the early flying boats, and sail-making. It is the place where the first hovercraft was tested. The population of the town increases dramatically during Cowes Week, the busiest time of the year for local businesses. The town was reported to be doing well in 2009, despite the economic downturn.
Cowes is a gateway town for the Isle of Wight. Travellers to Southampton are served by a high speed catamaran passenger ferry from Cowes known as the Red Jet. Southern Vectis' route 1 is the main bus service in Cowes. Single decker buses branded Red1 serve the Red Jet terminal, whilst route 1 double deckers serve the M&S Foodhall at Carvel Lane (the site of the former Cowes railway station). Both run to Newport to take travellers on to other island destinations. Wightbus also ran local services around Cowes and Gurnard until 2011. The Cowes Floating Bridge connects the two towns of Cowes and East Cowes throughout the day. It is one of a few remaining chain ferries not replaced by a physical bridge.
Cowes is the start of the Isle of Wight Coastal Path.
Cowes Park and Ride is a park and ride scheme on the Isle of Wight, featuring an 85-space car park and bus stop on the outskirts of Cowes in Somerton, on a former industrial site. It is currently served by Southern Vectis buses on route 1 every 10 minutes during the day.

Living on the Isle of Wight
The Isle of Wight is a wonderful place to live. Take a look at what's on offer on our wonderful island!
The Bees - Got To Let Go (Live TCT, Royal Albert Hall London 2008)
The Bees (known in the United States as A Band of Bees) are an English band from Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. Although their sound is generally classified as indie rock or psychedelic rock, the band have a colourful range of styles and influences, such as 1960s garage rock, country, reggae and jazz.
The Bees have released four albums: 2002's Mercury Prize-nominated Sunshine Hit Me (which was acclaimed by critics for being recorded in frontman Paul Butler's own garden shed), its 2004 major label follow-up Free the Bees (which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios), and 2007's Octopus. Their fourth album, Every Step's A Yes, was released on 11 October 2010.
The first two albums featured songs that have been used in British television advertisements, which are partially responsible for the band's recognition: Sunshine Hit Me's A Minha Menina, a cover of an Os Mutantes track, appeared in a Citroën car commercial and also an advert for Magners Irish Cider, whilst Chicken Payback and Wash in the Rain, both from Free the Bees, were incorporated in adverts for Sure Deodorant for Men and Sainsbury's, respectively. Chicken Payback is also used as the 'bed' track for The Radcliffe and Maconie programme on BBC Radio 6 Music. The official video for Chicken Payback featured the band in an arcade-type dance game machine in a Japanese video arcade. The lead character, apparently a rock and roll dance diva, dances so quickly that his shoes catch fire. The song was used in a 60-second flagship advert produced by Karmarama commissioned by Age UK to launch the charity's 2011 Thank You campaign. It was performed by 81-year-old Joy Graham[1] accompanied by a Jazz Orchestra and was directed by BAFTA winning director Becky Martin of Channel 4 sitcom Peep Show.[2]
The Bees supported Oasis in 2005, and Madness in December 2007 during their Christmas tour, and supported Paul Weller in the UK on selected dates of his Winter Arena Tour.[3] In 2010, The Bees performed a set for The Sun, covering We Speak No Americano and playing songs from their album, Every Step's A Yes. Paul Butler appeared on stage at the Glastonbury Festival in 2010 with Devendra Banhart, after performing two sets of their own.
In 2011, The Bees supported Fleet Foxes on their UK tour.
One of the influences the Bees have cited is the mind-altering drink called ayahuasca. Butler came to drink this plant medicine with shamans in Peru after being introduced to it by Banhart. The whole thing has brought a lot of joy into my life. I think this kind of cleansing helps with your natural rhythm. Everyone has a song within them or a rhythm that is individual and personal only to you … and this kind of activity unlocks that.

What about the Isle of Wight? What is it?
The Isle of Wight is a county and the largest and second-most populous island in England. It is in the English Channel, about 2 miles (3.2 km) off the coast of Hampshire, separated by the Solent. The island has resorts that have been holiday destinations since Victorian times, and is known for its mild climate, coastal scenery, and verdant landscape of fields.
The island has been home to the poets Swinburne and Tennyson and to Queen Victoria, who built her much-loved summer residence and final home Osborne House at East Cowes. It has a maritime and industrial tradition including boat-building, sail-making, the manufacture of flying boats, the hovercraft, and Britain's space rockets. The island hosts annual music festivals including the Isle of Wight Festival, which in 1970 was the largest rock music event ever held. It has well-conserved wildlife and some of the richest cliffs and quarries for dinosaur fossils in Europe.
The isle was owned by a Norman family until 1293 and was earlier a kingdom in its own right. The island has played an important part in the defence of the ports of Southampton and Portsmouth, and been near the front-line of conflicts through the ages, including the Spanish Armada and the Battle of Britain. Rural for most of its history, its Victorian fashionability and the growing affordability of holidays led to significant urban development during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The quickest public transport link to the mainland is the hovercraft from Ryde to Southsea; three ferry and two catamaran services cross the Solent to Southampton, Lymington and Portsmouth.

What about The Garlic Farm?
They've been growing garlic on the Isle of Wight ever since Granny Norah planted those first few cloves in her garden over 50 years ago. They have spent all the years since exploring its history and origins, experimenting with the many different varieties here on the Island and creating many garlic infused products from garlic chutney to garlic beer and garlic ice cream.
Colin and Jenny (Mum and Dad) have even travelled to the mountains of Georgia and Kazakhstan (see the Garlic Farmer's Blog) in search of the Mother of all garlic and Colin continues to make garlic connections across the globe. Colin and Jenny's daughter Natasha has written three fantastic books on cooking with garlic and how to get the most of it's amazing health benefits. Their daughter, Josephine, runs the Garlic Farm Field Kitchen at events, shows and music festivals offering delicious garlic inspired grub to hungry festival goers. Their son, Hugo, looks after the farm's holiday cottages and yurts, as well as playing gypsy jazz guitar in his band, Cat Skellington who can on occasion be found playing in the farm restaurant.
Natasha and her husband Barnaby now oversee the day-to-day business operations while Colin and Jenny remain actively involved in the business. The amazingly hard working and dedicated Garlic Farm team is growing with the business and reaches up to 70 people in the height of the summer season.

BRITISH PATHÉ'S STORY
Before television, people came to movie theatres to watch the news. British Pathé was at the forefront of cinematic journalism, blending information with entertainment to popular effect. British Pathé also represents the Reuters historical collection, which includes more than 136,000 items from the news agencies Gaumont Graphic (1910-1932), Empire News Bulletin (1926-1930), British Paramount (1931-1957), and Gaumont British (1934-1959), as well as Visnews content from 1957 to the end of 1984.
