Crystal Palace internationals round up Tragedy in Africa as Eagles feature across the globe
Crystal Palace internationals round-up: Tragedy in Africa as Eagles feature across the globe. Crystal Palace have eight players on international duty during the current break from Premier League football.
And it has been a busy week so far for the Palace players away with their countries, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Wayne Hennessey and Cheikhou Kouyate among those in action.
Kouyate featured yesterday (Sunday) for Senegal in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo, which was overshadowed by a tragedy that occurred before the game, with one person killed and around 40 people injured after a stampede at the stadium.
Despite the tragedy, the game went ahead as scheduled.
Elsewhere, several other Palace players have been involved in either the UEFA Nations League, or qualifiers for upcoming tournaments.
So how have the Palace players fared so far during the international break? We take a look, below.
Nya Kirby (England U19)
England U19 4-1 Holland U19 - Wednesday, September 5
The Palace midfielder, who appeared in the UEFA U19 Championships for England this summer, started as the Young Lions thrashed Holland 4-1 at St Georges Park on Wednesday.
He wasn't on the scoresheet, but a brace from Reading's Danny Loader, together with goals from Manchester City's Phil Foden and Manchester United's Angel Gomes, helped Keith Downing's side to victory.
England also face Belgium at the Belgian National Football Centre today (Monday).
Oliver Webber (Northern Ireland U19)
Northern Ireland U19 0-2 Slovakia U19 - Wednesday, September 5
Northern Ireland U19 4-1 Slovakia U19 - Friday, September 7
The Palace teenager was called up to Northern Ireland's squad for two friendly matches in preparation for UEFA European Championships qualifiers in November.
The goalkeeper did not feature as Northern Ireland lost to Slovakia on Wednesday, although they won 4-1 against the same side on Friday in Newry.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (England U21)
England U21 0-0 Holland U21 - Thursday, September 6
The Palace academy product received his first call-up at U21 level off the back of some impressive performances for the Eagles.
And he made his debut on Thursday as Aidy Boothroyd's side drew 0-0 with their nearest challengers Holland at Norwich City's Carrow Road.
Wan-Bissaka played the full 90 minutes and made some good blocks and tackles as England remained five points clear at the top of their European Championships qualifying group.
England face Latvia in Jelgava today (Monday).
Wayne Hennessey (Wales)
Wales 4-1 Republic of Ireland - Thursday, September 6
Denmark 2-0 Wales - Sunday, September 9
The Welshman made his 77th appearance for his country as Ryan Giggs' team thrashed Republic of Ireland and Denmark in the new UEFA Nations League on Thursday.
Goals from Tom Lawrence, Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts helped Wales to a 4-1 win against Martin O'Neill's side in Cardiff, before Shaun Williams scored a consolation for the visitors.
And Hennessey became Palace's second-highest cap winner in the club's history as he played for Wales against Denmark last night (Sunday), putting him just one behind Mile Jedinak with 38.
Hennessey played the full 90 minutes as Giggs' side lost 2-0 against the Danes.
Patrick van Aanholt (Holland)
Holland 2-1 Peru - Thursday, September 6
France 2-1 Holland - Sunday, September 9
The Palace defender was called up to the Dutch squad for their two matches this week, but did not feature in either.
He was not involved as Ronald Koeman's side beat Peru 2-1 in Amsterdam on Thursday, and was an unused substitute as Holland lost their opening UEFA Nations League clash against France yesterday (Sunday), with Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud on target for the World Cup champions, and former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel netting for Holland.
Alexander Sorloth (Norway)
Norway 2-0 Cyprus - Thursday,
