VIETNAM OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO HANOI! Tour of Soft & Hard Sleeper
Travel by overnight sleeper train in Vietnam from Danang to Hanoi! I rode the 4-berth soft sleeper and toured the 6-berth hard sleeper near the end. Watch more Vietnam vlogs:

Hi family! Alright...so this overnight train ride to Hanoi was not the most pleasant for me; however, it is still a great way to travel Vietnam. Here are some things I'd recommend you doing if you are considering taking the sleeper train:
-DO bring food & snacks! No food cart rolled around during the entire 16 hour train ride. I kept trying to listen for the wheeling of the cart and even left my door open around dinner time. There was nothing. There was water and hot water though :) Cup o noodles team!
-DO bring jacket, scarf, or sarong that you can wear. It gets COLD at night especially as we get closer North. You can even lay them down if you're afraid of unclean bedsheets.
-DO check the door & lights in your room when you arrive in case there's some kind of malfunction. You may be able to ask the train staff (who come around sometimes) to switch to another one.
-DON'T talk super loudly and be mindful of other passengers in the room. A man ended up taking the berth next to me at 12am and was talking on the phone for a whole hour :/
-DON'T buy your tickets online if you can just get it at the station a few days earlier or even a day earlier! I met a couple of travellers who just showed up that day and booked. It is always cheaper way cheaper at the train station. OR ask your hotel staff to help you book it. Don't go to a tour agency - they'll charge you lots. I was traveling during TET so had no choice but to secure it online. If you're on last resort - check out 12go.asia (the site I use for train & ferry travel in Southeast Asia).
If you don't want to take a sleeper train but still want to experience it, take the Vietnam railway train from Hue to Danang or Danang to Hue. It is a 2.5 hour train ride with breathtaking views of Vietnam's coastline! You can just get a regular seat, no sleeper needed.
While this train ride didn't go so well for me, I know the experience is different for everyone. Take it or not, it's up to you :)! It IS way better than the overnight busses - or so I heard.
Thank you for tuning in! Hope this information helps you when traveling in Vietnam!

Vietnam Railways, Hanoi to Hue in Soft Sleeper Class - 4K
Darkness has fallen as we join our train for the overnight trip from Hanoi to Hue. There are just two of us in our soft sleeper compartment capable of sleeping four. The two vacant bunks are handy for storing our cases leaving plenty of room to spread out. The lights of Hanoi fade as we leave the city behind and get ready to settle down for the night. After a surprisingly good night’s sleep we awaken to a mist covered landscape as our train cautiously makes its way over a section of flood damaged track next to a river already busy with all kinds of boats. The mist begins to lift, revealing an attractive tropical landscape covered in thick vegetation, eventually giving way to flooded fields interspersed with small towns and villages. Finally we leave the train at Hue visiting some local highlights on our way to the luxurious Indochine Palace hotel.
FIRST CLASS Vietnam Overnight Train - Hanoi to Hue
I love overnight transport. So when I heard we were going to be doing an overnight train in Vietnam, I was so excited. However, Vietnam does have a reputation for some crazy train travel. I was so surprised how amazing our sleeper train was.

Laman Express Train - Hanoi to Hue in Vietnam.
Train #SE19 - we booked online with
We paid about £30 per person for the 4 berth cabin but were upgraded free of charge to the 4 berth Laman Express service.
We really enjoyed he service and would highly recommend it.
Train #SE19 -
Laman Express is a newly opened service provider run by a longtime partner of 12Go. While we can never guarantee 100% that every trip will be perfect we do highly recommend Laman Express over the other private train service providers.
*Laman Express uses only brand new train cars, never the older recycled Vietnam Railways cars and also provides a light food and beverage service. Due to the close partnership between Laman and 12Go cabins are never oversold and you will never be placed in a regular Vietnam Railways car as can happen with Violette and Livitrans Express.
Laman Express operates luxury private train cars with 4-berth cabins (VIP Sleeper 4x) and 2-berth cabin (1st Class Sleeper) for Hanoi - Dong Hoi - Hue - Danang. One can expect to enjoy a cleaner, calmer and more comfortable trip.
Please go to the Laman desk at the Mango Hotel (immediately to the right of the main station entrance) ONE HOUR before departure for check-in procedure
Tickets for 1st Class Sleeper must be purchased for the whole cabin (2 berths) while the 4 berths in the VIP Sleeper 4x cabins may be purchased individually.

FIRST CLASS SLEEPER TRAIN, HANOI TO HUE, VIETNAM: REUNIFICATION EXPRESS NOT FIT FOR A PRINCESS!
Wow, what an adventure. This video shows my whole, 17 hour train journey travelling in first class on the Reunification Express overnight train from Hanoi to Hue in Vietnam. Despite travelling in first class, this was NOT FIT FOR A PRINCESS! This video is a warts and all look at what the train and cabin and WC's and bedding and food are all really like. It was an adventure - and I will always remember it - but I was really ready for this journey to end! Still, it was in a way a highlight of my whole amazing tour round Vietnam with explore.co.uk and my daughters (one of who photobombs this video to hilarious effect!) will always remember this night with fondness @ExploreAdventure
24 Hours In Hanoi, Vietnam
A full 24 hours in Hanoi, Vietnam and the city is amazing! Train street, Hoan Kiem lake, Banh Mi, Pho and the general atmosphere and crazy traffic is what makes this city absolutely amazing!

CAN'T WATCH? Full BLOG POST HERE:
Sleeper trains in Asia are almost a right of passage! We decided on the first class sleeper as this is a private room for 4 people, the second class sleepers are beds in the entire carriage with no walls so everyone has access to your stuff so for us this was a no brainer.
If you would like to know more leave a comment and I will either do a video or a blog post to answer as best I can from my own experiences.

✏︎ As we decided to head for Sapa in the Northwestern region of Vietnam, we had to figure out how to get there. However it wasn't hard to pick the most intriguing solution, as we found out there are night trains from Hanoi to Lao Cai which is the train station closest to Sapa.
We booked a VIP cabin, which means we have a 2 berth cabin all to ourselves. You can also book a bed in a 4 berth cabin, but those were simply too small for comfort if you ask us.
The whole experience was great. Of course it's not easy to get a proper nights sleep, but it's a great way to save both money and time, as the train removes the need to accommodation elsewhere. If you are going to Sapa from Hanoi this is very much recommendable.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Vietnam: The Overnight Train from Lao Cai to Hanoi
Everyone takes the overnight train back to Hanoi departing from Lao Cai (almost at the Chinese border). Lao Cai is only a few hours by road from Sapa. Tour organizers drop you off in the late afternoon at the train station square. With nothing to do until your train leaves, we just sat around, had our boots cleaned, ate and schmoozed.
There are 3-5 trains each night ranging from hard seat to the luxurious Victoria Sapa Express, only bookable if you stay at the Victoria Sapa Hotel.
