Hey guys and welcome back to another episode of Triple P with me Surya Sridhar. So as some of you may know Im a Potterhead and that basically means I love Harry Potter. I grew up with it! I read all the books, I watched all the movies, had Harry Potter board games at home and recently I went to London to check out the Harry Potter shop and of course Platform 9 and 3/4. So guys there is only one thing left for me to do. To go to Porto! And you might ask: Why Porto? What’s here? Now as some of you Potter Heads may know, JK Rowling lived in Porto for 2-3 years teaching English, and thats where she wrote the first draft of the Philosophers Stone. She of course got a lot of inspiration from the city, and we’re going to be checking out 7 of the places. So are you guys ready? Cause I am. Let’s go!
Number 1: Livraria Lello
The Livraria Lello is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. You’ll be stunned by the woodwork, the glass art, and its most important feature: the red winding staircase. Many Potterheads believe that it actually inspired the incredible Hogwarts moving staircases as well as the interior decorations of the Diagon Alley premium bookstore called: Flourish and Blotts. You’ll be shocked to know that I stood in a queue for over 45 minutes and paid 3 Euros to get into this bookstore, but trust me, it was worth it!
Number 2: Escovaria de Belomonte
In Harry Potter, do you remember the scene where he's walking through Diagon Alley ogling at the beautiful Nimbus 2000? These magical brooms and the ones at the Brushes of Belomonte have a striking resemblance, especially since they are made by hand, are of high quality woods and natural fibres and have a rustic look to them. Also you may have noticed the similarities in the font used on the stores sign to the one used in the Harry Potter branding! Cool eh?
Number 3: Universidade do Porto
Now guys you remember the outfit at Hogwarts don't you? Incase you forgot, you can just head on over to the University of Porto to check it out. Yup you heard me right. The students also have a similar outfit: a white button down shirt, a tie, a sweater, dark trousers or skirts and of course a full length cape! If the Hogwarts Express came chugging by, they would just need to jump on, and they’d blend right in!
Number 4: Cafe Majestic
Now legend has it that JK Rowling frequently visited Cafe Majestic on Rua de Santa Catarina, which isn't surprising as it was a popular place for intellectuals and literary giants. It is said that she would jot down notes on the napkins when she got an inspiration for her first book Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. I was so struck by the stunning Art Nouveau design of the place, that I decided to treat myself to a yummy French Toast and soak in the ambience.
Number 5: Fonte dos Leões
Theres no doubt that Gryffindor has a special place in our hearts, especially since the main characters are from this house. It is speculated that the Fountain of Lions in Porto inspired JK Rowling to think of this beautiful emblem that symbolises courage and bravery. The interesting thing is that the lions aren't just normal ones - they have majestic wings - resembling the mythical griffin, hence: Gryffindor.
Number 6: Torre dos Clerigos
No doubt that one of the most emotional moments in Harry Potter was the death of Albus Dumbledore, the beloved headmaster. The scene shows him falling from the Astronomy Tower, the highest point in Hogwarts. It is said that this was inspired by the 76 meter high Clerigos Tower which for a long time was the highest building in all of Portugal. After climbing its 240 stone spiral staircases, I finally made it to the top to check out the breath taking panoramic scenery. Seriously, it really did remind me of the Astronomy Tower in Hogwarts!
Number 7: António de Oliveira Salazar
Now some of you may not know this but Antonio de Oliveira Salazar was the prime minister of Portugal from 1932 to 1968 and was known to be a dictator with a strong sense of censorship. It is very much possible that it inspired the antagonistic Slytherin house and its founding father: Salazar Slytherin, who was a Parselmouth and one who believed in blood purity. What do you guys think?

O programa “Caçadores de Viagens” apresentado pelo jornalista Néo Correia mostra em detalhes a Livraria Lello e Irmão que fica na cidade do Porto de Portugal, que além de ser considerada a mais bonita do mundo, suas escadarias também são conhecidas por ser a inspiração das escadas de Hogwarts nos livros de Harry Potter, já que a autora do livro, J.K. Rowling chegou a morar na cidade do Porto e frequentar o local.
O vídeo tem imagens de Néo Correia e foi produzido por Angélica Pedroso, Raíssa Pedroso e Leonardo Ramos que fizeram parte da equipe dos Caçadores na viagem a Europa realizada entre 12 a 23 de março para gravar os vídeos da segunda temporada do programa que vai ao ar todas as sexta as 17h00 ao vivo pela TV ESPORTE MAIS, canal 27 da Net e 10 da Cabonnet.

I was unbelievably saddened to hear that such a great, real human, Anthony Bourdain left this Earth that influenced me to go to Parts Unknown. He aroused my love for exploring foreign lands that only existed in history books before i saw him.. Though it is no formal celebration of his life, i feel he would be proud to see what his belief has done for those of us that thrive to see more, try more, do more, and share our love of that to the world with the same passion and vigor he did. I want to thank him for being himself, and making the rest of us be ourselves too.. legends never die. They just move on.. leaving the world a little better than they found it.
PORTO is one of the first places Anthony made television..
Thank you to the trumpet player that played the right song at the right time.. the only time i've cried while vlogging was during this..that's why we do this.. for the moments that just happen, and you can't recreate. The only thing you can't have back is time. Use it wisely

O atual edifício em que se encontra instalada foi inaugurado em 1906. Distingue-se pela sua belíssima fachada Arte Nova, com apontamentos neogóticos. No seu interior destacam-se a decoração em gesso pintado imitando madeira, a escada de acesso ao piso superior - uma das primeiras construções de cimento armado da cidade do Porto -, e o grande vitral existente no tecto, que ostenta o monograma e a divisa da livraria: Decus in Labore. Em 2008 o jornal inglês The Guardian considerou-a a terceira mais bela do mundo, a mesma classificação atribuída pelo Lonely Planet, no seu guia Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2011, sendo descrita como uma pérola de arte nova, destacando as prateleiras neo-góticas e a escadaria vermelha em espiral.

Portuguese brothers José and Antonio Lello wanted to create a temple as an ode to the arts. So in 1906 they founded Lello Bookstore, considered one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. Not least - because of a magnificent red staircase in the middle of the shop. But it's more than just an architectural gem, it's also become a magnet for attracting fans of a certain bespeckled young wizard.

A Livraria Lello é um dos locais mais icónicos do Porto e, certamente, uma das livrarias mais famosas do mundo. Foi fundada em 1906 pelos irmãos Lello na Rua das Carmelitas e provocou um impacto imediato.
A escadaria da Livraria Lello inspiraram a autora de Harry Potter a criar as escadas de Hogwarts que se moviam de um lado para o outro e levavam os alunos a zonas do castelo onde não deveriam estar.
A Livraria Lello tem recebido multiplos elogios. The Guardian, em 2008 considerou-a a terceira livraria mais bela do mundo. Esta classificação também foi atribuída pelo Lonely Planet no guia Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2011, que descreve a Livraria Lello como uma “pérola de arte nova”, destacando as “prateleiras neo-góticas” e a “escadaria vermelha em espiral”.
A Livraria Lello era um dos locais favoritos de Joanne Kathleen Rowling. Sim, a autora de Harry Potter. J.k. Rowling viveu por dois anos na cidade do Porto, onde veio lecionar inglês na Encounter English, e adorava passar suas horas vagas nesta incomum livraria.
A influência de Portugal PORTO no romance de J.K. Rowling vai para além das escadas do castelo de Hogwarts e encontra-se em muitos mais factos curiosos
Foi no traje académico portuense, não muito diferente do usado noutras cidades universitárias portuguesas, que J.K. Rowling se inspirou para criar as longas capas pretas que fazem parte da farda que usam os alunos de Hogwarts.
A personagem de Salazar Slytherin, fundador da casa de Slytherin, deve o seu nome ao antigo ditador fascista António de Oliveira Salazar

Diz a lenda que foi numa das mesas de mármore do mítico café portuense que a britânica terminou o primeiro rascunho de Harry Potter e a Pedra Filosofal. J.K. Rowling costumava frequentar o café na companhia do ex-marido, o jornalista Jorge Arantes.
A ligação de Rowling ao Majestic tornou-se tão conhecida que vários turistas já chegaram a sugerir que o café colocasse uma placa a assinalar que a autora passou por ali.
A escritora britânica de ficção J. K. Rowling, autora da saga Harry Potter, mudou-se para Portugal em 1991. Nessa época, trabalhou em uma escola de idiomas como professora de inglês na cidade do Porto.

A história da livraria Lello remonta a 1869, ano em que é fundada na Rua dos Clérigos a Livraria Internacional de Ernesto Chardron.
Após o imprevisto falecimento de Chardron, aos 45 anos de idade, a casa editora foi vendida à firma Lugan & Genelioux Sucessores.
Em 1894 Mathieux Lugan vendia a Livraria Chardron a José Pinto de Sousa Lello que possuía então uma livraria na Rua do Almada.
Associado ao irmão, António Lello, mantêm a Livraria Chardron, com a razão social de José Pinto de Sousa Lello & Irmão, até 1919, ano em que o nome da sociedade muda para Lello & Irmão Lda.
A Livraria Lello e Irmão, também conhecida como livraria Chardron, ou simplesmente livraria Lello situa-se na Rua das Carmelitas,144 no Porto.
A fachada neogótica é do engenheiro Xavier Neves.
