Llyn Brianne Reservoir and Dam - Wales

The reservoir was constructed by Wimpey Construction in the late 1960s and early 1970s in order to regulate the flow in the Tywi to support large potable water abstraction at Nantgaredig in the lower reaches of the river near Carmarthen; providing water to the Felindre water treatment works. The treated water is piped to a large area of South Wales which includes Swansea and Neath and the western periphery of Cardiff.

The reservoir is up to 272 ft deep and holds more than 13 billion gallons of water.

Under the reservoir there are a couple of houses, which were flooded to make way for the water reservoir. Before the water level was raised, it was possible to walk to Fannog farmhouse as a For Sale sign was once erected on it. It is still possible to see the top of the house when the water levels are low.

Archival footage from You Tube and put into one continuous 30 min video. This is the promotional film by Wimpey regarding their completion of Llyn Brianne Dam. Which is located near my home town of Llandovery, Wales. This is a fascinating look into its construction, opening and operation of this feat of civil engineering. A time capsule into the dam's construction and its community. I would love to hear from anyone who was involved in the development and construction of the dam.
