Loamhole Dingle Coalbrookdale
Loamhole Dingle Nature Walk at Ironbridge - Part One
Continuing my exploration with Lee Proudfoot of Coalbrookdale and the early Iron masters at Ironbridge in Shropshire, today I take a delightful nature walk.
The circular trail takes you from Upper Furnace Pool through the beautiful woodland of Loamhole Dingle returning along the historic Ropewalk where industry once mixed with nature.
Loamhole Dingle is a wet, ancient semi-natural woodland consisting of mainly ash, alder, silver birch and hazel and a range of wild flowers

Loamhole Dingle Nature Walk - Part Two: The Quaker Graves
I am continuing my walk in Loamhole Dingle with Lee Proudfoot and heading to the Quaker Graves.
The Quaker burial ground in Coalbrookdale where many members of the Darby family are buried. They were iron masters who owned the ironworks which supplied materials for the Iron Bridge.

Apple Day - in celebration of everything 'appley' and much more!
9th October 2010
Last year's Apple Day was a resounding success and this year it hopes to be just as good. The centrepiece will be the beautifully restored traditional twin-screw apple press, a piece of equipment dating back to the mid-19C. It requires nothing but muscle power to operate them and last year was busy all day, pouring out some 200 gallons of apple juice.

Shropshire Walks: Coalbrookdale
Shropshire Walks is a series of different walks around Shropshire whether your a walker, hiker, dog walker or you just want a free family day out exploring the county especially in the summertime. Where your free to roam and enjoy the outdoors with friends and family.
Coalbrookdale is steeped in history from the origins of the industrial revolution here in Shropshire, England. Situated within a World Heritage Site known as 'Ironbridge'. Coalbrookdale is a village in the Ironbridge Gorge, containing a settlement of great significance in the history of iron ore smelting.
This is where iron ore was first smelted by Abraham Darby using easily mined 'coking coal'. The coal was drawn from drift mines in the sides of the valley, as it contained far fewer impurities than normal coal, the iron it produced was of a superior quality.
Today, Coalbrookdale is home to the Ironbridge Institute, a partnership between the University of Birmingham and the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust offering post graduate and professional development courses in heritage.

Circular walks... in Teresa's World we just love them! Be inspired to get out there and do them! Okay, not the Inca Trail, but the Iron Trail, an adventure where Superdog Millie heads the way! Part 2 of the trip to Ironbridge, see Coalbrookdale Foundry where AGA castings are made... but sadly, not for much longer.

The First Iron Bridge in the World!
Today I am exploring the Ironbridge Gorge with Lee Proudfoot, historian and guide, and in particular to wonder at the first iron bridge in the world.
The Iron Bridge is a bridge that crosses the River Severn, at Coalbrookdale, in Shropshire, England. Opened in 1781, it was the first major bridge in the world to be made of cast iron, and was greatly celebrated after construction owing to its use of the new material.
