Beautiful Glen Affric Mountains Scotland 31 3 2019
Sunday 31.3.2019 - shorter night as British Summer Time began. I woke up at midnight prepared for the trip to Glen Affric which is 4 hours of driving from home. Tom a'Choinich & Toll Creagach were the target - two different Munros with great views around.
Three Lochs Way | Hiking Scotland: Day 1
Today we set off to hike the Three Lochs Way over a weekend with a couple of nights wildcamping. The Three Lochs Way is a shorter long distance hike of about 34 miles.
Getting to Dumbarton (easier to get back to by train from the end) we get the train (eventually) to Balloch, where the hike starts.
Travelling through Balloch and past Loch Lomond we trek up the trail onto the hillside to traverse over to drop down into Helensburgh.
On leaving Helensburgh we pull back up out and walk over a section of hillside before finding a place to camp for the evening where the coming calamity for the weekend begins.

Gentle landscapes are gradually replaced by the scenic drama of mountain, crag and loch as the Three Lochs Way crosses the Highland Boundary Fault and heads towards the mountains of the Southern Highlands. With Loch Lomond, The Gareloch and Loch Long as recurrent scenic backdrops, the Three Lochs Way takes you on a fascinating journey through place and time as it links a necklace of communities strung along the Clyde Sea Lochs fringe of Scotland's first national park.
Rarely rising above 250 metres, the route's 55 kilometres (34 miles) can easily be walked in 3 to 4 days and with the West Highland railway line never far away, it also offers plenty of options for shorter day walks. Total ascent is approximately 1,500 metres.

The Great Glen and Scottish Highlands
The Great Glen (Scottish Gaelic: An Gleann Mòr), also known as Glen Albyn (Gleann Albainn - the Glen of Scotland) or Glen More is a series of glens in Scotland running 100 kilometres from Inverness on the Moray Firth, to Fort William at the head of Loch Linnhe.
The Great Glen Fault
The Great Glen follows a large geological fault known as the Great Glen Fault. It bisects the Scottish Highlands into the Grampian Mountains to the southeast and the Northwest Highlands to the northwest.
The Glen is a natural travelling route in the Highlands of Scotland, which is used by both the Caledonian Canal and A82 road, which link the city of Inverness on the east coast with Fort William on the West. The Invergarry and Fort Augustus Railway was built in 1896 from the southern end of the glen to the southern end of Loch Ness, but was never extended to Inverness. The railway finally closed in 1947.
A recent development has been to open a long-distance route for cyclists and walkers. Called the Great Glen Way it links Fort William to Inverness. Clearly marked along the way, connecting a series of footpaths, forestry tracks, canal paths with the occasional stretch of road The Great Glen Way was officially opened on the 30th of April 2002 by H.R.H. Prince Andrew, Earl of Inverness.

Glen Affric – Part 1.
I spent a rather wet night in my tent in Glen Affric, in the Scottish Highlands to allow me the opportunity to capture the early morning light in one of Scotland’s most colourful glens. With autumn in full swing, and having miss timed my visits the last few years I was hoping to have a bit more luck on this visit. As you will see in the video I couldn’t have asked for better weather and conditions for capturing the autumnal colours in all their glory.

Glen Affric – Part 2.
This video picks up from where I ended the first video, as it was such a fantastic morning I thought I’d split out the footage taken over the course of my walk.
This video covers a couple of locations along the banks of the River Affric, where I try to give a bit of an insight into my thoughts and why I was looking at these locations in particular. The first location doesn’t quite work out the way I had hoped, I then move on to a set of rapids that I had scouted on a previous visit.
I do apologise for the audio quality when I’m talking. I couldn’t find my mic (although it did surface out of my bag when I returned home) and was battling against the noise of the fast-flowing river. I’ve tweaked the audio as best as I can and I think I’m 90% understandable (accent excepted!).

At Glen Shiel you have a wonderful glen along with the history of the battle that took place in June 1719. Glenshiel is on the A87 road as you approach Loch Duich going north.
Walking the Affric Kintail Way from Inverness
The Affric kintail Way is a 44 mile long distance walk from Drumnadrochit to Morvich in the Scottish Highlands.
I started from Inverness, along the Great Glen Way adding an extra 18 miles to the journey, covering approximately 62 miles (20 miles per day) through Thursday to Sunday. I carried all my gear and camped out every night before catching the bus home from Morvich on the Sunday morning. I completed the trail in late August 2015.

Places to see in ( Drumnadrochit - UK )
Drumnadrochit is a village on the western shore of Loch Ness, a long, narrow lake in the Scottish Highlands that’s supposedly home to the Loch Ness Monster. The Nessieland center celebrates the legendary beast with family-friendly exhibits and loch cruises. Ruined Urquhart Castle overlooks the lake just east of the village center. To the west, wooded Glen Urquhart and Glen Affric offer horse-riding and hiking trails.
Drumnadrochit is a village in the Highland local government council area of Scotland, lying on the west shore of Loch Ness, at the foot of Glen Urquhart. There are several buses a day that pass through Drumnadrochit, notably the No 17 between Drum and Inverness bus station. Buses are less frequent outside the summer season, especially on a Sunday.
The village is popular with tourists and there are three larger hotels in (or close to) the village, two smaller inns (the Ben Leva Hotel and Fiddler's Rest) and a cosy hostel (the Loch Ness Backpackers Lodge). Attractions include Nessieland, a Nessie themed exhibition about the Loch Ness Monster, a Loch Ness Exhibition and nearby Urquhart Castle, one of the most visited sites managed by Historic Scotland.
Drumnadrochit hosts the Glenurquhart Highland Games at the end of August each year. A winter event, Drums and Rockets, has also taken place in recent years.[6] The community hosts a Bonfire Night fireworks display around the 5th of November. Agriculture and forestry are also major local employers. Drumnadrochit is also the home of the Loch Ness Brewery, a microbrewery launched in 2011 with considerable early success.
( Drumnadrochit - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Drumnadrochit . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Drumnadrochit - UK

Three Lochs Way | Hiking Scotland: Day 2
Rising in the morning in our wild camp we start off day 2 of the Three Lochs Way after covering 12.5 miles of trail the evening before.
There is a section of road walking on this hike so we make progress along that eventually coming over great views of the Gare Loch.
The weekend adventure really starts to get enjoyable as we roam the trail through the Scottish countryside and eventually arrive at Arrochar. This is where we experience a substantial delay to the trek but eventually hoist our backpack and proceed on our travels back on the trail.
After covering 22 miles we find another wild camp site and settle in for the night only leaving us an easy 2 miles to the end the following day.

INTO THE HIGHLANDS- An 800 km walk across Scotland
In April 2016, my brother Danny and I set out on an 800km walk covering the length and breadth of Scotland. Starting from Berwick-upon-Tweed just inside the English border, our journey took us along cliff tops, across swollen rivers and through snow covered mountains. Battered by wind, rain, hail and snow we moved slowly north until we reached the most north westerly point of mainland Britain, Cape Wrath. Enjoy the journey.
