Callander and Loch Lubnaig
A wee look at the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lubnaig!
Loch Lubnaig, Callander & Tyndrum
Loch Lubnaig between Callander and Strathyre is one of the smaller lochs in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. It lies in the glaciated glen between Ben Ledi and Ardnandave.
It is fed by the river Balvaig at its northern end and empties into the river long.
Tyndrum is a small village and is notable mainly for being at a junction of transport routes. It is on the West Highland Way, and has a campside, hotel, bunkhouse and bed and breakfasts to accommodate walkers.
Overshadowed by Ben Lui, a Munro, Tyndrum is built over the battlefield where Clan MacDougall defeated Robert the Bruce in AD 1306, and took from him the Brooch of Lorn.
Tyndrum is also a former mining centre. The hamlet of Clifton (the row of cottages across the A82 from the Green Welly) is made up of the former mining cottages, and up the hillside beyond them the tailing of a former lead mine can be seen. The gold mine is two miles o the south and west of Tyndrum at Cononish, above Cononish Farm. Work on constructing the mine began in the
1980's but low gold prices forced the closure of the mine before it became fully operational. In October 2011 it was announced that the mine would be reactivated.

Late Autumn Road Trip Drive From Doune To Callander Scotland
Tour Scotland late Autumn travel video of a road trip drive from Doune, with Scottish music, on the A84 road North on ancestry visit to Callander. Bonnie Prince Charlie passed through Doune in 1745. Doune was also famous for its manufacture of pistols. The town of Callander serves as the eastern gateway to the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, the first National Park in Scotland. Due to its location it is often referred to as the Gateway to the Highlands. Victoria Helen McCrae Duncan was born on 25 November 1897 in Callander, Perthshire, she was the daughter of Archibald McFarlane, a slater, and Isabella Rattray. At school, she alarmed her fellow pupils with her dire prophecies and hysterical behaviour, to the distress of her mother, who was a member of the Presbyterian church. After leaving school, she worked at Dundee Royal Infirmary, and in 1916 she married Henry Duncan, a cabinet maker and wounded war veteran, who was supportive of her supposed supernatural talents. A mother of six, she also worked part time in a bleach factory. She became a Scottish medium best known as the last person to be imprisoned under the British Witchcraft Act of 1735. She was famous for producing ectoplasm made from cheesecloth. On her release in 1945, Duncan promised to stop conducting séances, but she was arrested during another one in 1956. She died at her home in Edinburgh, on 6 December 1956, a short time later. Callander is 41 miles from Perth, Perthshire, via the A9 and A84 roads.

Scotland: Bike ride along the River Teith and Loch Lubnaig
Our latest outing in Scotland we hired bikes to ride along the River Teith and Loch Lubnaig to Strathyre for a picnic and desert. We had great views of the highlands and Ben Ledi (stay tuned for video of Mel and Anders summit attempt). Anders even went for dip in the loch. We had a picnic by the river an a great day out on British Mothers' day.
See more details on the blog:
NOTE: We read that Ben Ledi was the tallest but it isn't. Not even top ten actually. darn that internet!

A Day in Callander Scotland 8 16 17
Spending a day in Callander Scotland in the Trossachs National Park was our last leg before going through Stirling and reaching Edinburgh after a wonderful day traveling from the Highlands. Emily tried her hand at driving on the left and did quite well. She only hit one curb as I had two to my name. She was the best navigator to have and kept us on the correct route at all times. Well, maybe we missed one turn along the way. Very enjoyable time together. Our B&B featured a surprise playing of the bagpipes by the owner who was a member of the Royal Dragoon regiment.
The lady spinning yarn was at the Callander Mills and she was extremely delightful with a fantastic personality. The horse riding experience Castle Rednock Trekking Centre was also very memorable. I lost my iPhone along the trail and realized it when we finished. Can't say enough good things about the entire staff there who went out and finally found it after about an hour of looking. Johnny was our guide who found it and none of them would accept a reward. They said, It is all in a Day's Work. Very special people, indeed. All the people of Scotland are extremely friendly.
