Top 10 HORRIFYING Mental ASYLUMS in the United States
Despite their original benevolent intent, mental asylums have become synonymous with abuse and malpractice. For one, the practice of lobotomy originates in the world of psychotherapy and institutionalization. Egas Moniz performed the first lobotomy in Portugal in 1935 and it was soon after adapted by American physicians Walter Freeman and James W. Watts, who popularized the operation. From 1949 to 1951, the amount of lobotomies grew from 5,074 to 18,608 people. John F. Kennedy’s sister is one of the many who were victims of the controversial procedure.

SOT, Adam Heller, of Heller Organisation, owner of the Corvettes (in English): Right now we are standing in an undisclosed location in Upper Manhattan. This is a collection of 36 Corvettes, every year from 1953 all through 1989. Behind us we have 26 of the cars, and there are nine of them already being worked on out in a restoration shot in Long Island.

SOT, Adam Heller, of Heller Organization, owner of the Corvettes (in English): The dust that has accumulated on the paint on the cars has actually worked as a way to protect the cars after all these years. So the first step when we start bringing them out to the shop, is they have a special solution they use to take off the paper that was placed on the sides of a lot of the cars and kind of peel away all these decades of dust that accumulated. And what we are finding is paint that is in pristine condition.

SCRIPT
Several vehicles from a collection of 36 Corvettes were seen gathering dust at a secret location in Manhattan, New York, Tuesday. The cars are due to undergo restoration work following a change in ownership. Pop Art artist Peter Max sold them to Adam Heller, who aims to sell the vehicles at auction following their restoration. The collection features one Corvette produced in each year between 1953 and 1989, including a Corvette Stingray
New owner of the collection, Adam Heller, stated that the dust accumulated on the cars had worked to protect the vehicles. He added that he had found the cars' paint to be in pristine condition.
The collection has an interesting back story. Peter Max acquired it when Dennis Amodeo, a carpenter from Long Island, agreed to sell him the vehicles after he had won them in a contest held by the VH1 channel in 1989. Max had wanted to use the cars in a psychedelic art project, but later abandoned the scheme.

Violent storms, isolated tornadoes to threaten central, southern US into Friday evening
The risk of severe thunderstorms, including isolated tornadoes, will progress farther to the east and south over the central United States into Friday evening.
A weather pattern more typical of the middle of spring, rather than the middle of summer will continue the threat of severe weather on Friday.
As AccuWeather accurately predicted, severe storms and tornadoes blasted portions of Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas and Arkansas on Thursday.
A severe thunderstorm caused high waves on a lake that overturned a tour boat and killed multiple people in the Branson, Missouri, area, while devastating tornadoes tore through several communities in Iowa and caused extensive damage.
While there is a somewhat lower threat of tornadoes on Friday, there is still the potential for a few long-lived thunderstorms that can spawn tornadoes in parts of the Midwest during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
A single tornado that strikes a populated area can threaten a great deal of lives and property.
The greatest threat from the storms is likely to be from hail, straight-line wind gusts and flash flooding. The risk into Thursday evening is forecast to extend from northern Indiana and western Ohio to northeastern Arkansas, northern Mississippi, northern Alabama and northwestern Georgia.
The storms may produce hail large enough to damage crops, break windows and dent the metal on vehicles.
Smack in the middle of the severe weather risk area is much of Kentucky and Tennessee, as well as the lower portion of the Ohio Valley and the middle Mississippi Valley.
Cities at risk for potentially violent storms include the cities of Indianapolis, Evansville and Fort Wayne, Indiana; Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Cairo, Illinois; Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky; Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio; Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tennessee; Tupelo, Mississippi; and Huntsville, Alabama.
Unusually chilly air for July high above the atmosphere will cause the storms to behave more like spring thunderstorms, rather than the late-day pop-up storms typical of the middle of summer.
The same weather pattern will create some wind shear that is an ingredient for tornadoes. Wind shear is the increase and change in direction of winds relative to increasing elevation in the atmosphere.
The weather pattern is also forecast to mark the beginning of an extended stretch where hot weather will be extremely limited and the potential for showers and thunderstorms to occur often enough to raise the risk of flooding over much of the eastern and part of the midwestern U.S. into early August.
A Second Day of Widespread Severe Thunderstorms Will Rake the Ohio Valley and Tennessee Valley Friday After Thursday's Iowa Tornadoes
Bondurant, Marshalltown and Pella Thursday afternoon.
Strong straight-line winds from a line of severe thunderstorms lead to a deadly capsizing of a tourist boat on Table Rock Lake, near Branson, Missouri.
Florida extreme Keosauqua Airport
Wind gusts as strong as 80 mph swept through Manhattan and Topeka, Kansas, Thursday afternoon and even brought dust to parts of eastern Kansas.
Man falls to his death after son-in-law opens elevator doors early
Surveillance footage from a residential building in Cengong county, southwest China's Guizhou Province shows two men waiting for the elevator to arrive. The son-in-law got impatient and used a key to unlock the elevator door and look inside the shaft, but then the father-in-law walked into the shaft, apparently thinking the lift had arrived and fell to his death.
The tragic incident triggered a heated debate online about whether it was by accident or premeditated. The son-in-law seems very professional and knew where the elevator lock was. I don't know its place, said a netizen on Chinese social media platform Weibo. The son-in-law, surnamed Zhou, claims to be the community's electrician. I forgot to tell my father-in-law not to walk in and I didn’t stop him, Zhou explained. The elevator lock is used by firefighters during emergencies and should never be opened otherwise.

'Manhattan Madam' Gives A Tour Of The Seedier Side Of Times Square
WILD IN TIMES SQUARE
There is reportedly a gang in Times Square operating a drug and sex ring. According to the New York Post, the NYPD is trying to stop them and made 128 arrests in 2016.
Sibile caught up with Manhattan Madam Kristin Davis to find out more about illegal drugs and prostitution in Times Square.
Kristin Davis became infamous as the Manhattan Madam when she was busted for running a prostitution ring and providing call girls to powerful men like then-NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer.
Times Square has historically been a sort of underbelly of New York, for 30, 40, 50 years I think now. So there's lot of sex going on here. whether it's in the hotels or people on the streets here looking to traffic girls or you know anything else that's going on, sex, drugs, Davis said.
Cash, weapons, Lamborghini seized in major drug bust in Queens, Brooklyn
Four suspects were arrested in Queens and Brooklyn overnight Wednesday in what is being described as a major drug bust.
The bust was the result of a long-running investigation that began with two overdose deaths involving fentanyl-laced heroin -- one in Bay Ridge in 2016 and one in Kew Gardens in May of 2017.
The alleged ringleader was identified as 35-year-old Dionne Sharrow (AKA Slay), who was arrested at his apartment in a luxury high-rise on 51st Avenue in Long Island City. Among the property seized there was a loaded firearm, approximately $500,000 in cash and a Lamborghini parked in the building's garage.

Mayor de Blasio Announces More than 17,300 Units of Affordable Housing Financed in 2014
Enough to House Nearly 42,000 New Yorkers
Learn more at nyc.gov/housing.
City exceeds projection of 16,000 units for calendar year 2014 as it begins project to preserve the affordability of 159 low-income co-op units in rapidly gentrifying Fort Greene
Mayor Bill de Blasio today announced that the City financed the creation and preservation of more than 17,300 affordable units during calendar year 2014. With 11,185 preserved units and 6,191 new construction units financed, the City exceeded its first year projections by more than 1,300 affordable units. Based on average household size, these new and preserved units are enough to affordably house nearly 42,000 New Yorkers.
Preservation of affordable housing—keeping existing residents in their homes, rehabilitating old apartments and building systems, and locking in long-term affordability—is a major element of the Housing New York plan for 200,000 affordable units. The Mayor made the announcement at 45-55 North Elliott Place in Brooklyn, a low-income cooperative home to 159 families earning less than $60,000 per year for a family of four—and many residents considerably less. In December 2014, the administration invested $3.1 million in capital funding, with an additional $250,000 dedicated by Public Advocate Letitia James during her tenure as Council Member, to ensure the building will remain affordable for another 30 years, keeping longtime residents in their homes in this rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. The funding will also provide for upgrades including replacing windows, asbestos removal, elevator rehabilitation and boiler replacement.
Housing New York confronts an affordability crisis that affects families ranging from the most vulnerable to those in the middle class. More than 86 percent of the units financed in 2014 were for extremely low, very low, low-income families (see chart below). And to support housing for critical elements of the city’s workforce—such as nurses, police, firefighters, office workers, and teachers—a further 2,400 units were financed for moderate and middle-income households.
As the City approaches its next milestone in the Housing New York plan—the end of Fiscal Year 2015—it is on pace to exceed the fiscal year target of financing 16,000 units between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015. As of December 31, 8,600 of those units had been financed. This first year’s strong showing resulted from the Mayor’s decision to double HPD’s capital budget, favorable market conditions, and an emphasis on making the financing process more efficient. The City leveraged approximately $1.9 billion in bonds issued by HDC during 2014, which ranked HDC first in the nation among all municipal housing bond issuers for the year.
In 2015, the pipeline of new and preserved affordable housing will continue to increase as the administration’s first area-wide rezonings move through the land use process, RFPs are issued on additional publicly owned sites, new construction programs launch, and City agencies further streamline their operations.
Preserving Affordability and Improving Housing Quality
Maintaining the quality and affordability of the existing housing stock is critical to the goals outlined in Housing New York. In 2014, there were 11,150 preservation units financed—which is more than 65 percent of the total units financed in 2014. This financing will help keep New Yorkers in their homes and ensure that the properties they live in are well-maintained both financially and physically. Preservation financing typically helps to extend the affordability and finance repairs/maintenance of existing affordable housing, and can also be used bring new properties into affordability programs by assisting in the acquisition and rehabilitation of privately owned low-income housing.
