The Lößnitzgrundbahn meter gauge line Steam route runs through some picturesque countryside from Radebeul (10km outside Dresden City Centre) to Moritzburg and Radeburg and utilities meter gauge trains with Saxon IV4 2-10-2T locos as the main fleet. The meter gauge line
A daily timetable with a one train service operates pretty much all throughout the year with specials timetables in force on high-days and holidays. On this day, Saturday the 23rd of February, the normal timetable was in action with one of the home fleet of engines in action.
Footage in this video includes a brief look at the station at Radebeul Ost which parallels the mainline out of Dresden, and also includes some shots on the first 2-6km of the line. Loco 99 1789-9 does the honors for the day. Hope you enjoy!

Lößnitz Valley Railway, Lößnitzgrundbahn Radebeul weißes Roß FullHD 60fps
In 1884, the Lößnitz Valley Railway became the fourth narrow-gauge railway line in Saxony and has been running between Radebeul Ost, Moritzburg and Radeburg ever since. The 16.6 km long line takes the tourist train across 19 bridges and through 11 stations.
The nostalgic trip begins at the peaceful town of Radebeul just outside
of Dresden. From Radebeul Ost Station, the steam train winds its way
past glistening vineyards, through the green Lößnitz Valley to the
heaths and lakes of Moritzburg.
Perhaps the most spectacular part of the journey is when the “Lößnitzdackel”
(Lößnitz sausage dog) – as the locals call it – crosses the
Dippelsdorfer Teich lake along a 210 m long dam, with water on both
sides. The halfway point of the line is around Moritzburg. The world
famous baroque hunting lodge and summer residence of the Electors of Saxony is one of several locations you can visit during your time here.
The trip continues through meadows, fi elds and past little towns to the terminus at Radeburg.
In addition to the daily timetabled services, there is a programme of special trips throughout the year, such as the “Weingenuss auf schmaler Spur” (Narrow-gauge wine
tasting) programme or the annual Narrow-Gauge Railway Festival.

2-10-2 tanks numbers 099-742 & 743 operate the service in the winter of 1996/7. The 750mm narrow gauge line is still operating today but primarily as a tourist line. There are some interesting level crossing sequences ... drivers in the UK would be shocked by the inadequate barriers seen in the closing sequence. Filmed during the winter of 1996/7.

Radebeul road crossing
The Radebeul–Radeburg railway, also known as the Lößnitzgrundbahn or Lössnitz Valley Railway is a narrow gauge (750 mm) steam railway on the outskirts of Dresden.
Not far from the terminus of Radebeul East, the line runs diagonally over a crossroads and, given the elegant buildings in the town, this makes a great photo location. the train is seen arriving from Radeburg and the engine running round, having been coaled and watered (as a Dresden-bound express rumbles past). 99.713 then makes a spirited start and, a few seconds later, crosses the road again and heads north.
