We Wanna Go around the world! In vlog #15, We land in Frankfurt, Germany and find the perfect AirBnB accommodation near the historic wine region of Rüdesheim Am Rhein (Ruedesheim on the Rhine River). This small and historic winemaking town, situated beneath rolling hills lined with vineyards, is home to the famous Drosselgasse. This small and narrow walking street or alley is a major tourist attraction and is lined with cute restaurants, beer gardens, live music and souvenir shops. After strolling the street upwards, we make our way to the local Weinachtsmarkt (Christmas market) in the main square. We sample Bratwurst and Glühwein (mulled wine) before making our way up to the Niederwalddenkmal (Monument) atop the hill.

Rüdesheim am Rhein, Germany - Cable Car Ride to Niederwald Monument
Located on the Rhine River, Rüdesheim am Rhein, Germany is one of those charming towns you see on postcards. The Niederwald Monument (Niederwalddenkmal) is located high up on a hill overlooking the town and the best way to get to it is to take a Gondola Cable Car ride up. The monument also goes by the name of Germania Statue.
As is usual with my video uploads, Ed does pretty much all of the video filming and narration, while I do the majority of the still photos, edit everything, add music, etc. and upload it.

Good wine runs through the veins of our Rüdesheim host Maresa, she runs a Wine Restaurant and Hotel with her parents and her Grandfather founded the Georg Breuer winery, which still sells wine all over the world. Maresa flies over the vineyards of Rüdesheim by cable cart, walks through the town centre to arrive at the pier to get a boat down the River Rhein. We see The Herbal Hosts put on an incredible salmon spread but what was better the, food or the views? Maresa then has an indulgent day of wine tasting at her family wine shop, she has a classic Rudesheim coffee before ending her night with…you’ve guessed it, more wine. A truly perfect Rüdesheim day.

In the Middle Ages Rüdesheim, secured by four castles, was one of the most important places of the Mainz archbishop. The castles, the winegrowing and the historic courtyards in the old town have already made Rüdesheim one of the most famous excursion destinations and holiday resorts on the Rhine in the Romantic era.

Video of the Town centre and shops in this pretty Touristy Rhine valley town.
world famous Drosselgasse, Rudesheim, Germany
This is the world famous Rudesheim Drosselgasse which is a 144 meter long lane in Rudesheim, Germany which is an old yet very touristy German village on the Rhine which has a year round population of only 3000 yet sees 10 million visitors per year. The Drosselgasse is world famous for its beer cafes, restaurants and dancing and drinking establishments. We enjoyed our visit. As the video shows, this visit was part of a Viking River Cruises tour. This was the optional Dine in Rudesheim tour and features Viking Kara cruise director Elizabeth. If we had it to do over, we would visit the Drosselgasse ourselves and have dinner on the ship because the Viking food was amazing and better than what we had at the Rudesheimer Schloss which is one of the most famous establishments on the Drosselgasse (actually rated #1 by TripAdvisor).
