Inside the Entrance to Ashton Court Estate - Long Ashton, UK
Ashton Court, Bristol UK
Just 2 miles from the centre of Bristol, Ashton Court Estate remains almost entirely surrounded by Somerset countryside. Owned by Bristol Council since the 1950's, the estate is now a major recreational area for Bristol and North Somerset.
The estate is about 850 acres of woodland and meadows with a large mansion, deer keepers cottage and 5 gatehouses or lodges.
This web site is about Ashton Court Estate as it is today. A mixture of ancient woodland its natural wildlife and many activities & events.
I favour the woodland walks, deer parks and other wildlife over the cycling, miniature railway, golf and other activities and enjoy the major events like the Balloon Fiesta. But whatever your preference Ashton Court Estate is well worth a visit.
I will just note that while I am a frequent visitor to the estate myself, I have no involvement in the estates business, see the links page to visit the Bristol Council website.

Entrance to the Ashton Court Estate - Long Ashton, Bristol
Ashton Court is a mansion house and estate to the west of Bristol in England. Although the estate lies mainly in North Somerset, it is owned by the City of Bristol. The mansion and stables are a Grade I listed building.[1] Other structures on the estate are also listed.
Ashton Court has been the site of a manor house since the 11th century, and has been developed by a series of owners since then. From the 16th to 20th centuries it was owned by the Smyth family with each generation changing the house. Designs by Humphry Repton were used for the landscaping in the early 19th century. It was used as a military hospital in the First World War. In 1936 it was used as the venue for the Royal Show and, during the Second World War as an army transit camp. In 1946 the last of the Smyth family died and the house fell into disrepair before its purchase in 1959 by Bristol City Council.
The estate developed from the original deer park and is Grade II* listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England. It is the venue for a variety of leisure activities, including the now-defunct Ashton Court Festival, Bristol International Kite Festival and the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. It is home to charity The Forest of Avon Trust.

Providence Lane: The Ramp out of Long Ashton
Providence Lane is a small road that climbs out of long ashton towards failand. It is located a stones throw from the city of Bristol in the UK and on the Western periphery.
The climb is composed of 2 distinct ramps, each of which are about 1-2 minutes in duration. You are met with a wall initially, with the gradient reaching mid teens in terms of percentage in the first few metres of the climb.
The climbs flattens off in the middle, but in order to get a good time, you will need to try and pick up speed sharpish, increasing the cadence and maybe even shoving it in the big ring before the final kicker.
It is a useful climb for short efforts and improving the lactate threshold. An absolute classic and a must have on the bucket list for all riders based in Bristol.
The top of the climb is the junction with the clarken coobe main road.
Stats 0.6 miles at 8.8%.
