1st Day in Swakopmund Namibia. Park at the Beach & Drive to Walvis Bay
In this video the kids are spending the first day at the coast in Swakopmund Namibia. We visit the beach front and the kids get to play on the park in the sand. We then had a walk around. Afterwards, we travelled to Walvis Bay and filmed the sand dunes and Long Beach along the way. We first visited Ryan's cousin and the children got to look around his garden and saw lots of plants which were different than back in England.
Next the the kids climb one of the biggest sand dunes in the world!

Road Trip Namibia - December 2019
Footage from our December 2019 safari to Namibia. We rented a Toyota Hilux and drove Windhoek to Swakopmund to Walvis Bay to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (the South African bit) and then back to Windhoek. Clocked up 3000km of driving in two weeks.
This is such an amazing country, and a great place to spend the festive period in the heat! We stayed with friends in Windhoek and celebrated Christmas in an Airbnb on the beach in Swakopmund. For New Year's Eve, we found ourselves in Grootkolk Wilderness Camp in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, surrounded by lions (and with no fences).
I hope this video inspires you to visit this unique country.

Namibia on the road
They call it Africa for beginners because Namibia is very easy to go around and discover the country on your own. And so we did. This video is perfect to watch if you are considering to go to Namibia, as it covers the classic itinerary in the country.
Given the Xmas holiday period we booked car plus some accommodation from Europe. Despite we travelled at the beginning of the raining period (January), the weather was great (almost always sunny and warm). We did a classic itinerary given we had only 10 days to spend. With a couple of more days, we recommend to reach Opuwo to see the Himba people. With further 3/4 days, you can add the Namibian Kahalari and the south.
DAY 1
Arrival in Windhoek. Pick up of the car, first walk in the city. Dinner at Joe Beerhouse
DAY 2
From Windhoek to Sesriem. Ca 5 hours of beautiful driving getting the first experience with Namibian gravel roads. Most road in Namibia are gravel but are relatively large and well maintained. Afternoon in Sesriem spent visiting the canyon and climbing the Elim dune.
DAY 3
Wake up at 5.30am to enter the park as it opens (6.10am). Drive the 45km to get to the Dune 45 and first breathtaking climb of the dune. Then straight to Deadvlei and Sussusvlei until around 1pm. As it is summer (up to 45C), we spent the central hours of the day sleeping near the sleeping pool of the lodge. Then short tour and beer to watch the sunset from the savannah
DAY 4
Another early wake up and we are on the way to Swakopmund. First stop is at Solitaire, to taste the apple pie which is recommended in every guidebook. Then stop at the Tropic of Capricorn. The first part of the drive is beautiful with savanna landscape. After you cross the Kuiseb pass you enter a total new landscape as you are entering the Skeleton Coast. A couple of hours of drive in the desolation, and we reach first Walvis Bay, and then Swakopmund where we spend the afternoon exploring the German soul of this city.
DAY 5
The day was spend in an excursion. In the morning we went by boat in the Walvis bay, watching seals, birds, shipwrecks ... In the afternoon, we took the 4x4 excursion to Sandwitch Harbour, a secluded bay very difficult to reach unless you are an experienced off-road driver with the right car. The place is amazing and the top moment was the lunch on the beach, eating oysters, in a beautiful and unspoiled oasis completely untouched by civilisation
DAY 6
Another day on the road (6 hours with stops). From Swakop, we headed north along the Skeleton Coast stopping at the Leila shipwreck and Cape Cross, a colony of thousands of fur seals. From there we drove to the Damaraland which we reached in the early afternoon, on time for a visit to the Twyfelfontein archaeological site (rock engravings and paintings dated between 2,000 and 6,000 years ago). A stop to the Herero women along the roads is a good spot to get some nice souvenirs.
DAY 7
On the move again, direction Etosha. But before we spent an hour at the petrified forest and getting some fuel and lunch in Khorixas. From there, the road to Etosha is paved again. We arrived in Etosha at the Okaukejo Lodge. A couple of hour to rest and we are in the bush again with the car spotting the first animals (giraffe, zebra, impala)
DAY 8
Whole day spent in the car, slowly wandering around the Etosha park. Despite the raining season (the animals are spread in the bush and the vegetation is more dense) we spotted all the key animals with the exception of the felines (esp. the lion was missing).
DAY 9
Return to Windhoek. A nice long way, with a couple of nice and clean villages to stop by to refuel and buy some food and souvenirs. Evening passed enjoying a beer in the great outdoor garden at Joe Beerhouse.
DAY 10
Visit of Windhoek. A small city, not much to see but good for spending a few hours walking around. Flight in late afternoon.

Swimming Pools of Namibia
While on a Ramblers Holiday to Namibia in September 2014, we swam in the swimming pools of some of the lodges at which we stayed. Most of them were quite cold as it was only spring time.

In this video the kids have fun on the beach. The kids enjoy playing with their diggers, cars and other vehicles at the beach. We had a walk down the beach in Swakopmund to see what Caleb could find. He found some unusual creatures, lots of mussels and birds.

A NAMIBIA ROAD TRIP - SWAKOPMUND to SKELETON COAST (www.AfricanSafaris.travel)
ITINERARY NAMIBIA 2019
This is a series of our recent trip a road trip in Namibia.
The Itinerary:
Windhoek - House on Olof Palme
Namib Desert - Sossusvlei - Le Mirage Desert Lodge
Swakopmund/Walvis Bay - Swakopmund Luxury Suites
Damaraland - Damaraland Camp
Etosha National Park - Onguma The Fort
Namibia has been called the Land God Made in Anger, it is vast and wild...few countries in Africa can match Namibia's sheer natural beauty. Louis and I have been there many times and we continue to return, it is still one of our favourite safari destinations. This trip was a road trip, A way to maximise your time in Namibia is to take a plane for some of the long distances. Plenty of visitors opt for a combination of flying and driving to pack in as much as possible if you don’t have the kind of time we had... But have to say there is something special about a road trip! We had fun travelling companions and that does make all the difference!
Another thing that is special about Namibia it is the first country in the world
to enshrine environmental protection in its national constitution, ensuring that roughly 40 percent of the territory is designated for conservation.
We started out in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia had a great time at Joe’s beer house and headed out in the morning to the great dunes at Sossusvlei, giant red sand dunes, rising from the arid salt pans, are an amazing sight.
We stayed at the Mirage Desert Lodge which we really enjoyed. We all agreed that was some of the best food on the trip, the dining room had lots of ambience and the food was really fantastic!
Swakopmund, known as Swakop in Namibia is the country's biggest coastal town and a resort for Namibians on holiday. The city's German origins are quite pronounced in beautiful old German colonial buildings throughout the city, making an even starker contrast for this town sitting at the edge of the Namib Desert. Swakopmund is like a German North Sea town with an African flair.
One thing Swakopmund isn’t is boring. It’s Namibia’s most popular holiday destination, and there are myriad attractions for enjoying the great climate including surfing, fishing, lolling around on the beach and finding ways to terrify yourself – it’s the adventure sports capital of Namibia.
We stayed at Swakopmund Luxury Suites Bed/Breakfast in the town centre, it was an ideal base from which to explore this delightful town and a couple of blocks from the beach. Restaurants and cafés abound all a short stroll away and the town has several galleries, museums and craft markets to explore. Nature and adventure activities including marine safaris, living desert tours, quad bike trails, horse trails, paragliding and skydiving and much, much more.
Other, more adventurous, we drove on destinations include, in the north-west, the bleakly beautiful, fog-bound Skeleton Coast, and the mountainous desert scapes of Damaraland. This area boasts magnificent desert scenery, fascinating geological formations, archaeological sites and a unique variety of desert fauna and flora. We climbed among the fabulous Twyfelfontein rock engravings. And we were lucky to see the famous Desert elephants. They are adapted to living under the particular conditions of the desert. They routinely move great distances between feeding grounds and the scattered waterholes where they drink during the dry season.
Etosha National Park is unique in Africa. The park’s is a salt pan so large it can be seen from space. Abundant wildlife that congregates around the waterholes, giving you incredible game sightings like the endangered black rhinoceros, lion, elephant and large numbers of antelope. Must see, must do! Have to say Onguma – The Fort was a beyond fabulous stay!
Last Few Days of Family Holiday in Namibia Africa Before Going Back to England!
Last Few Days of Family Holiday in Namibia Africa Before Going Back to England!
In this video, we made a montage of some of our final days at the coast of Namibia and in the capital of Namibia, Windhoek. In this video, you will see Caleb visit the house Ryan's Grandparents lived in, at the tug restaurant Swakopmund, long beach on 31st December (new years eve) at the beach with Caleb's Aunt and Uncle and their husky dog Django. Caleb and Naavah playing on a climbing frame that looks like a chamelion and a lady dressed in traditional Herero dress and also himba women who made beautiful crafts. Lastly, our final night in Namibia at Caleb's Aunt and Uncle where they made food including lots of nice delicious vegan dishes. We have one more Namibian adventure to upload before we are back to making videos in the U.K. We hope you enjoyed this b
