The stone forest (Shilin - Yunnan - China)
(EN) The Stone Forest or Shilin (Chinese: 石林; pinyin: Shílín) is a notable set of karst formations located in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, Yunnan Province, People's Republic of China, approximately 120 kilometres (75 mi) from the provincial capital Kunming. The tall rocks seem to emanate from the ground in the manner of stalagmites, with many looking like petrified trees thereby creating the illusion of a forest made of stone. Since 2007, two parts of the site, the Naigu Stone Forest (乃古石林) and Suogeyi Village (所各邑村), have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the South China Karst. (wikipedia)

Mosu & Naxi Matriarchal tribes, Yunnan province, China
Yunnan province is the most biodiverse and beautiful province in China. It has half of all plant and animal species found in China and 52 of the remaining 56 ethnic minorities in the country. In this clip Manchán meet the O-Er-Do-Ju family in Lugu Lake, North West of Lijiang in Yunnan. He is accompanied by Miss Lu, a foreign affairs official. The father of the family sits at his mother's fireside and explains the Mosu system of family, in which the woman has complete control. He then brings up to meet his father who was a Buddhist monk until the monastary was shut down under Mao. He is now free to practise again. He gives Manchán a message to bring home to the West with him.
The singers on the mountain are members of the Naxi minority and live near Lijiang.

Travel through the Stone Forest of Yunnan Province, meet the Yi People, taste the many varieties of Mushrooms, eat Cow Liver and last stop to a Xin'Jiang Lamb skewer stand marinated with Cumin.
The Stone Forest, or 石林 (shilin) in Chinese, is located in Yunnan province not far from the province capital of Kunming. These Limestone structures span an area of about 350 square kilometers and rise up in such a way that they appeared as a stone forest to the ancient peoples of Yunnan province. These structures are said to be over 270 Million years old and are designated as a UNESCO world heritage site. The forest is still used in celebratory rituals by the Yi people who hold dances and wrestling competitions on the 24th day of the 6th lunar month as part of the annual Torch Festival. Here we see a traditional folk dance with the men playing traditional string instruments and the women in traditional costume.
Apr 26, 2012 China_Drought plagues over 5 million in SW China
Over 5 million people are faced with drinking water shortages as a severe drought continues to plague southwest China's Yunnan Province.
In response, the local government has increased investment in waterworks infrastructure to ensure villagers can ride out this and future droughts.
Dahai village in Shilin County, one of the hardest-hit villages in Yunnan, is a salient example of the trouble droughts have brought to Yunnan's mountain communities. Dahai has been suffering droughts for three consecutive years. The village's 100-year-old well nearly dried up in 2011 and can no longer supply water.
This year the well is completely dry; little water is left, we cannot fetch any out of it, said Wang Xuezhi, the village head.
But with the completion of a water diversion network -- one of the 121 drought-relief projects by the provincial government -- water reached the village a month ago, relieving farmers and their livestock.
Still, locals suffered recently as the village scrambled to provide water. Before the water diversion network was complete, the village sourced relief water from the Sanjiao Reservoir over 20 km away. But in December 2011, the Sanjiao Reservoir was reduced to its minimum water storage level and had to cut off supply to Dahai.
The amount of water in the (Sanjiao) reservoir was reduced to only 370,000 cubic meters, less than one third of the previous one million cubic meters, so we had to control the water supply, said Zhao Shuping, director of the county's drought and flood protection bureau.
After this, Dahai villagers began to haul water using trucks and carts from a water supply center 9 km away. It was a one-hour round trip to fetch water, and was thankfully the last desperate measure the village had to take to obtain water. On March 20, water from an underground source was diverted into the village -- ending the water-fetching journey. The water, pumped from a subsurface river 40 m underground, has now solved the water shortage problem for over 2,000 villagers.
According to the Yunnan Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Department, the rainy season is estimated to come at the end of May at the earliest. The existing water sources and emergency water supply projects can guarantee basic drinking water supply before the rainy season, but if the drought continues in June, water diversion from the Lancang River and the Jinsha River will be considered, said Wang Shizong, deputy director general of the Yunnan water conservancy department.
To fight the drought, Yunnan has begun to increase investment in waterworks projects. It is expected that Yunnan will have completed more than 100 key waterworks projects and will have started construction on over 200 key water projects by 2015. The development and utilization rate of water resources is estimated to rise another 9 percent by then, and safe drinking water infrastructure for 14 million rural citizens is expected to be completed for this time.

Langde Shang Miao Village in Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province, China
Situated by the crystal Danjiang River and circled by green Leigong Mountains, Langde (also referred to as Upper Langde Village) is most picturesque Miao village in Rongjiang County. It has also been desginated by the Chinese Government as the Chinese Folk Art Village in 1997. The village, containing the Miao's Ethnic Village Museum will present visitors an authentic experience of Miao.
As you approach the village, you will be caught by the charming Wind and Rain Bridge stretching over the stream, the ancient mill wheels, and rows upon rows of stilted wooden houses (Diaojiao House in Chinese), the typical folk residence of Miao built on the stilts of different heights.
Langde Shang villagers belong to the Long Skirt Miao as the women here are traditionally dressed in their long skirts.

China, Dali - Shilin (Stone Forest) - Kunming 2017
Dali Town (Chinese: 大理镇; pinyin: Dàlǐ Zhèn) is a township-level division in Dali City, Yunnan, China. The town contains the historic centre of the county-level city of Dali and is also commonly known as Dali Old Town (Chinese: 大理古城; pinyin: Dàlǐ Gǔchéng). Dali has long been a regional centre of commerce, being located at a crossroads of trade routes between Tibet, China, Burma, and Southeast Asia. The Bai people first settled the region 3000 years ago. The old town was the medieval capital of both the Bai kingdom Nanzhao (fl. 8th and 9th centuries) and the Kingdom of Dali (937–1253). That city was razed and its records burnt during its conquest by China's Mongolian Yuan Dynasty. The present old town was organized in the late 14th century under the Hongwu Emperor of the Ming Dynasty. The area became significantly Muslim (Hui) under the Yuan and Ming and was the center of the Panthay Rebellion against the Qing from 1856–1863. It was severely damaged during a massive earthquake in 1925.
