A trip to Island of Long Sault Parkway Ontario
Long Sault Parkway, a group of eleven islands west of Cornwall, Ontario, was created by St. Lawrence Seaway flooding in 1958. The islands, formerly part of the Canadian mainland before the flooding of the Long Sault rapids, are a major tourist attraction and source of revenue for the region, especially during the summer months when tourists, most notably from the Montreal region flock to the parkway for its beaches, camping, fishing, and boating opportunities.
The eleven islands include two beaches with picnic areas (Mille Roches and Woodlands) and three campgrounds (Mille Roches, Woodlands, McLaren).

Chipmunk Nature Trail on Hoople Island (Long Sault Parkway - Ingleside, ON - May 2017)
The Long Sault Parkway allows the visitor to travel among what were former hilltops above the Lost Villages, settlements lost due to the flooding for the St. Lawrence Seaway project. Those higher points of land became islands in the new Lake St. Lawrence when the area was flooded in the late 1950s. One of them is Hoople Island, which features two nature trails. I decided to feature the Chipmunk Nature Trail, in the western part of the island.
There was no shortage of great white trilliums along the trail. This added some variety to a very green landscape. Most of the trail follows the shoreline very closely. The views of Lake St. Lawrence were very picturesque, as the video will show.

Kayaking Long Sault
July 18 2018. Put in at Ingleside & kayaked along the Long Sault Parkway. It was not as interesting as I had anticipated and there was a lot of open water.
Long Sault Parkway
Located just west of Cornwall, Ontario on Hwy #2. This is a very scenic park about 4km long. Hwy#2 is part of a senic route which follows the North East shores of Lake Ontario.

Cornwall Run to endMS, Marathon Flyby
A bird's eye view of the Run to endMS Marathon course. The marathon course is a point to point. It starts at the Crysler Marina, and follows the bike path through Upper Canada Village and the Bird Sanctuary to the Long Sault Parkway entrance at Ingleside. It then continues along the parkway through to Long Sault where it re-joins the bike path. The route then follows the bike path through the Lost Villages, along side the Cornwall Canal, under the Seaway International Bridge and along the waterfront to the finish line at St. Lawrence College. The route is scenic and fast with a slight net downhill profile.

Lock 21 is one of many structures still underwater from the St. Lawrence Seaway widening project from the 1950's.

Spring Scenes at the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary (Ingleside, ON - May 2017)
A large portion of the Red-Winged Trail was underwater during my visit. However, the southern boardwalk was still accessible. The flooding was caused by a beaver dam. It is very likely that along with the inconveniently-placed beaver dam, heavy rainfall and high water levels have not helped matters.
I was able to spot red-winged blackbirds and common grackles on the boardwalk. I was also able to spot one Canada Goose. Perhaps it is not surprising that I was also able to spot a beaver.
