Longleat House English Stately Home. Seat Of The Marquesses of Bath HD
Longleat is an English stately home and the seat of the Marquesses of Bath. It is adjacent to the village of Horningsham and near the towns of Warminster in Wiltshire and Frome in Somerset. It is noted for its Elizabethan country house, maze, landscaped parkland and safari park. The house is set in over 1,000 acres (400 ha) of parkland landscaped by Capability Brown, with 4,000 acres (1,600 ha) of let farmland and 4,000 acres (1,600 ha) of woodland, which includes a Center Parcs holiday village.[1] It was the first stately home to open to the public, and also claims the first safari park outside Africa.[2][3]
The house was built by Sir John Thynne, and designed mainly by Robert Smythson, after the original priory was destroyed by fire in 1567. It took 12 years to complete and is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Elizabethan architecture in Britain. Longleat is occupied by Alexander Thynn, 7th Marquess of Bath, a direct descendant of the builder; however, the peer passed the management of the business to his son Viscount Weymouth early in 2010

Stunning model of Longleat House goes back on display
A stunning scale model of Longleat House has been painstakingly restored after being broken up into more than 50 separate pieces.
The intricate 1:25 model, which was originally commissioned by the 6th Marquess of Bath, first went on display at the Wiltshire stately-home in March 1989.
However it was dismantled into over 50 individual pieces and put into storage when the building it was in, the Estate’s former game larder, underwent renovations in 2012.
Now, almost exactly 30 years to the day, it is back on show to visitors.
The restoration of the scale model was overseen by Kim Ward, a former apprentice of Jordi Fontanals, who built the original model.

Lord Bath's Dogs
We visited Lord Bath and his labrador and labradoodle dogs.
Although born in London, he grew up at his family's seat, Longleat, a great Elizabethan house set in Wiltshire parkland landscaped in the 18th century by Capability Brown.
Longleat Safari Park opened in 1966 as the first drive through safari park outside Africa, and is home to over 500 animals, including giraffe, monkeys, rhino, lion, tigers and wolves. Cheetahs are the most recent additions to the safari park with six having arrived in August 2011.
His family have always cherished animals and we went with him and his 2 dogs to the nearby Horningsham village fair.
Lord Bath is known for his colourful style of dress, which he acquired during a period as an art student in Paris during the 1950s.
