Longs Peak - Rocky Mountain National Park - Colorado 14er Dayhike
At 14,259 feet, Longs Peak towers above all other summits in Rocky Mountain National Park. The flat-topped monarch is seen from almost anywhere in the park. Different angles show the great mountain's unique profiles. Changing weather reflects Longs Peak's many moods.
In the summertime, when conditions allow, thousands climb to Longs' summit via the Keyhole Route. The Keyhole Route is not a hike. It is a climb that crosses enormous sheer vertical rock faces, often with falling rocks, requiring scrambling, where an unroped fall would likely be fatal. The route has narrow ledges, loose rock, and steep cliffs.
For most of the year, climbing Longs Peak is in winter conditions, which requires winter mountaineering experience and the knowledge and use of specialized equipment. Disregard for the mountain environment any time of year has meant danger, injury and even death.

Watch Two Inexperienced Hikers Attempt Longs Peak!
I filmed my experience on Longs Peak with my iPhone. We left our place around 2am to get to the trailhead and start the 12 hour hike so we could beat the afternoon thunderstorms. Bring plenty of food and water!!! I got altitude sickness at the keyhole so make sure you're prepared if you are planning on hiking anything with high elevation. After they keyhole we were tired and wanted to get down asap so I got little footage.

Epic Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park - 2 Day RMNP Itinerary
Nomad Family Log: July 22nd - 28th
I can't believe it's been so long since we visited the epic Rocky Mountain National Park. This place is just as stunning as the first time we visited back in 2015 when we first started full time traveling in our RV (with 5 kids btw).
There are so many amazing hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park it was impossible for us to pick just one. In our 2 day trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, we got to see 11 epic alpine lakes and hiked 23 miles. Don't worry, you don't have to do that much hiking to get a good taste of RMNP.

Rocky Mountain National Park- Quick look at the top attractions video
Colorado is synonymous with the Rocky Mountains. Rocky Mountain National Park is among the most popular national parks in US, hosting approximately four million visitors every year. In this video I have included the topmost attractions of the park without which the trip to the Rocky Mountain National Park will be incomplete. The Top sites mentioned in this video is best suitable for any long weekend trip itinerary to the park. Be sure to visit all these attractions.
I have covered the attractions as you enter the park from Estes park. The sites start from Longs peak to all the way to the Trail ridge road. There is one site that I haven't covered in this video. It's Milner pass( Continental divide) . Milner pass lies on the trail ridge road. You can cover this site while driving on the trail ridge road.
Rocky Mountain National Park - Colorado
08/11/14
We spent a couple nights at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park, 143 County Rd. 48 (Golf Course Rd.), Grand Lake, CO. 80447 (970) 627-8502 elkcreekcamp.com As you can see they had some resident moose camping there as well.
This gave us easy access to Rocky Mountain National Park. From Mexico to Alaska, for 2,700 miles the great Rocky Mountain chain forms the backbone of North America, the world's longest mountain barrier. We explored the Trail Ridge Rd which is the highest major highway in North America topping out at 12, 183 feet above sea level. Here is one of the most expansive areas of Alpine terrain in the United States. Nearly one-third of the park is above treeline - 11,400 feet of elevation in the park, the limit above which conditions are too harsh for trees to grow. The park holds 72 named peaks above 12,000 feet of elevation. Long's Peak is at 14,259 feet.
