The Peak District is an upland area in England at the southern end of the Pennines. It is mostly in northern Derbyshire, but also includes parts of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire. An area of great diversity, it is mostly split into the Dark Peak, where most of the moorland is found and the geology is gritstone, and the limestone area of the White Peak.
The Peak District National Park became the first national park in the United Kingdom in 1951. With its proximity to the cities of Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Derby and Sheffield, and access by road and rail, it attracts millions of visitors every year.
Inhabited from the Mesolithic era, evidence exists from the Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Ages. Settled by the Romans and Anglo-Saxons, the area remained largely agricultural and mining grew in importance in the medieval era. Richard Arkwright built his cotton mills at the start of the Industrial Revolution. Quarrying became important as mining declined. Tourism grew after the advent of the railways, visitors attracted by the landscape, spa towns at Buxton and Matlock Bath, Castleton's show caves, and Bakewell, the national park's only town.
Tourism remains important for its towns and villages and their varied attractions, country houses and heritage sites. Outside the towns, walking on the extensive network of public footpaths, cycle trails, rock climbing and caving are popular pursuits.

The Peak District - Longshaw Estate and the Padley Gorge
This is the beginning of a short series of videos exploring the Peak District in England with my friend Kevin Hall.
Today we are exploring the Longshaw Estate and the Padley Gorge.
Padley Gorge is a deep but narrow valley in the Peak District, Derbyshire between the village of Grindleford and the A6187 road.
The gorge is wooded with a stream, the Burbage Brook. This stream used to form the boundary between Derbyshire and Yorkshire but the boundary now follows the Hathersage Road, the A6187, formerly the A625.
Padley Gorge begins near Grindleford Station at a stile where a post has been installed. Although the valley continues up towards Hathersage Road and Burbage, the gorge finishes at the edge of the woodland. Padley Gorge forms the backbone of several walks in the area] and the railway station approach road forms a convenient car park for walkers.

The Peak District - Flash, the highest Village in Great Britain
Continuing my exploration of the Peak District. Today I am in Flash, a village within the Staffordshire Moorlands, England, and the Peak District National Park. It is currently the highest recognised village in the United Kingdom.
At 1,519 feet above sea level, Flash claims to be the highest village in Great Britain. In 2007 the claim was upheld by the BBC, which settled a dispute with its rival claimant, Wanlockhead in Dumfries and Galloway. The Ordnance Survey measured the highest house in each village and Flash was higher, although the results were disputed by residents of the Scottish village.

Family Day Out - Padley Gorge - Peak District National Park - Derbyshire - England
Family Day out in the Derbyshire Peak District 20/1/18. Filmed on a GOPRO 4 Hero. Sarah, Dean, Grace, Skye & myself all spent some quality family time with a visit to Padley Gorge in the Derbyshire Peak District. We didn't find any Fairies in Padley Gorge but we all had a great time trying.
Then to finish the wonderful day we all went for a meal at the Grouse and Claret in Rowsley Derbyshire.
Longshaw Estate, Derbyshire, UK
I visited the Longshaw Estate in Derbyshire, UK which is owned by the National Trust. It was a dreary morning. I called in at the Information Centre for a map and followed the trail. Called in at the cafe and gift shop. Purchased a few Christmas presents. Carried on along the trail down to the lake and barn. Lovely, autumn colours all the way around. Unfortunately, the heavens opened and got absolutely saturated but still an enjoyable morning.

Longshaw - Peak District
On one of my days off i hopped in the van and headed north towards the peak district. I didn't have a destination in mind until i remembered i had a leaflet i picked up showing a place called Longshaw, located within the Peak District National Park. So i punched in the post code and headed off. I was not disappointed.
