Tennessee trip info:
In the morning our tour continues to Tennessee with a trip through the Great Smoky Mountains. After a stop in Gatlinburg, TN, we will continue on to Pigeon Forge, TN to see the Dixie Stampede Western show, which was created by the great Dolly Parton. We will spend the night in Chattanooga, TN.
Great Smoky Mountains, TN The Great Smoky Mountains are a mountain range rising along the Tennessee–North Carolina border in the southeastern United States. The range is sometimes called the Smoky Mountains and the name is commonly shortened to the Smokies.

Chattanooga
We will spend the day exploring Chattanooga, TN and the surrounding area. Our day includes heading to Rock City and seeing the Ruby Falls.
Chattanooga, TN Chattanooga is the fourth-largest city in the U.S. state of Tennessee. A unique distinction for Chattanooga is the fact that the city has its own typeface, Chatype, which was launched in August 2012.
Ruby Falls The famous Ruby Falls, an underground waterfall, are a natural phenomenon, and are fed by rainwater and underground springs. The water from the falls flows out of the caverns and eventually joins up with the Tennessee River.
Rock City is as famous for its aggressive mid-19th-century marketing campaigns as for its views and gardens. Still, Rock City does offer a lot to visitors: panoramic views, botanical gardens, and amazing rock formations are all features.
Lookout Mountain Incline Railway This tram has been running almost continually since 1895, and with the exception of an engine update in 1911, it hasn't changed that much. The ride stretches about one mile up the mountain and reaches a grade of 72.7%.

POINT PARK TOUR - BATTLE ABOVE THE CLOUDS LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN CHATTANOOGA | CIVIL WAR MEMORIAL
Kindle Book in Amazon, Chattanooga 1863:
Kindle Book in Amazon, Greater Than a Tourist – Chattanooga Tennessee United States: 50 Travel Tips from a Local:
“As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.”
High atop Lookout Mountain’s most northern tip, there’s Point Park. Built in 1905 by the Army Corp of Engineers to commemorate the Battle Above the Clouds. fought during the Civil War in 1863. Although Most of the fighting took place on the mountainside and not in the vicinity of the park.
Carter Stevenson, commander of the three brigades that defended the area had positioned cannons atop Lookout Mountain to aid in its defense and to fire upon the advancing Union Army in Chattanooga. Once the cannons became ineffective, they were withdrawn at the end of that day, November 24, 1863, Stevenson was encamped in the area of the park, surrounded on three sides by a force ten times the size of his. Upon orders from General Braxton Bragg, Commander, of the Army of Tennessee, Stevenson withdrew his men southwest to Chickamauga Creek and Missionary Ridge.
Inside Point Park here, are numerous monuments to the men who fought and died. The New York Peace Memorial features a Union and a Confederate soldier shaking hands as a sign of reconciliation, and a small museum at the Ochs Overlook houses items of interest of the Civil War.
From Point Park it is possible to access many other sites through an intricate maze of trails. You can walk to Sunset Rock, where James Longstreet watched the Union Army march unopposed into Lookout Valley during the operations associated with the Battle of Browns Ferry. (1.1 miles,), walk to the Cravens House, 1.5 miles, or follow the eastern rim of the mountain. This trail is exceptionally beautiful at sunrise. They say.
An interesting part of the park that is often overlooked is the rock wall around the park and intricate design of the entrance. The Historic image of the gates of the Park, was constructed and modeled after the US Army Corps of Engineers Insignia. Just outside of the park is a visitor center with exhibits on the Civil War campaign for Chattanooga, including a large painting of The Battle Above the Clouds.

Rock City: I Can See Seven States, then Nashville - Traveling Robert
Great American Road Trip 2016 Part 2
On this week's video we visit a famous roadside attraction near Chattanooga, Tennessee called Rock City. Rock city is located on the Georgia side of the border, on top of the Lookout Mountain Ridge.
Rock City became a tourist attraction back in the early 1930s, at the site of a community called Fairyland, founded by one Garnet Carter and his wife Frieda. These rock formations happened to be inside the Fairyland community, and it was Frieda’s idea to develop this part of the property into a great rock garden, with all kinds of plants, trails around the rocks, and statues of gnomes and other fairytale characters imported from Germany. They claim that you can see seven states from the top of the mountain: Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. While on a clear day you can see the Smoky Mountains, that's still the Tennessee side. I don't have hard evidence of this but I have read that Kentucky, Virginia, and South Carolina are below the horizon, so the only way you could see them is if the Earth was flat.
In Rock City we also enjoy the music of Matt Downer - Old Time Traveler, an Alabama native and Chattanooga resident. He plays the fiddle, the banjo, and the guitar, and he has dedicated his career to the preservation of traditional music. He has studied the repertoire and techniques of many of the elder Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia musicians, so he is the real deal. What a treat it is to listen to his music.
As we continue towards Nashville we run into some trouble climbing the Cumberland Plateau , also known Monteagle Mountain. The car started overheating on the long 5% grade. While technically not a mountain, Monteagle got it's popular culture name due to a Johnny Cash song describing this treacherous portion of the road.

Rock City Gardens Tour (4K)
We visited Rock City & Rock City Gardens and were very impressed by this natural wonder perched on the top of Lookout Mountain. It is located nearby Chattanooga Tennessee though is officially in Georgia. Ticket prices range from $22 to $25 for adults, and $9 to $14 for kids, depending on the date of visit.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable 1 hour hike through whimsical surroundings with rock bridges, a fun and shaky swing bridge, gnomes, waterfalls, an extensive fairy tale display called Fairyland Caverns, plus beautiful views where you can see 7 states on a clear day. Definitely plan on spending around 2 hours or more there, and bring plenty of water because it can get HOT during the summer.
We highly recommend visiting Rock City Gardens if you are ever visiting Chattanooga Tennessee/Lookout Mountain. This was from our July 2019 visit of the area, which included Ruby Falls ( ) and the Lookout Mountain Incline Rail Train ride
( ).
