Jastarnia Resistance Center, Jastarnia, Pomerania, Poland, Europe
Jastarnia Resistance Center is a fortification complex aimed at protecting the Helmets Region from the mainland. Due to the establishment in 1936 of the Helpless Hel region, the peninsula was planned to be protected from the mainland. The choice fell on Jastarnia. To the north of Jastarnia, where the width of the peninsula reaches about 450 meters, a point of resistance was decided. The point was mainly based on concrete shelters. Because of the priority of the work related to the placement of batteries department, the work began only in 1939. On 15 V 1939 fortification work began. Completion was planned on November 15, 1939. The outbreak of the war found defenses ready for defense, but they were not fully equipped (for example: lack of armament, ventilation systems). Finishing works continued throughout Coast Defense. During its existence, the position was not attacked. After the end of the September campaign, the area of the Jastarnia Resistance Center was further maintained by the Germans in combat capability. The facilities served as anti-aircraft shelters, as well as observation posts. They were also prepared for defense in 1945. These preparations consisted in supplementing the earth's defense elements and anti-tank ditches. After the war the shelters were still projected in defense plans. It was not until the 1970s that these plans were dropped. On June 15, 1999, the decision of the Provincial Monument Conservator Jastarnia Resistance Center was declared a monument. In 2000 the fortifications were handed over to civilian management, which made it possible to stop their devastation and carry out conservation work. The Jastarnia Resistance Center consists of four main shelters and light shelters. Heavy combat shelter, designed for machine guns. Thickness of external walls: 100-180 cm. Thickness of armor in the walls of 25-120 mm. Thickness of 180 mm armored dome. The facility provided protection against impact of a 220 mm caliber bullet, once hit at a given location. Arming the shelter consisted of two places. One was placed in an armored dome, with the ability to fire in the frontal area 190 °. Three firearms were used to fire. The range allowed to support the neighboring shelters of Sabala and Vulture. The second ckm was designed to drive the oblique flame along the dirt road. In addition, the defense could be guided by four firing squads firing rkm fire. Entrance to the facility was defended by two internal firing ranges. Facility facilities provided the minimum social security. In the facility, apart from combat facilities, there were: crew quarters, warehouse, toilet, engine room (generators, air filters), battery room. To protect against chemical weapons in the shelter, hypertension was maintained. Heavy combat shelter, designed for machine guns. The object was located on the beach. Because of this location the shelter was very difficult to mask. Thicker walls were used to increase the resistance than other objects. Exterior wall thickness: 125-330 cm. Thickness of armor in the walls of 25 mm. Thickness of armored dome 180-200 mm. This did not change the immunity class, however, and the object provided protection against a 220 mm caliber bullet, once hit. Armory of the shelter consisted of two cens. One was placed in an armored dome, with the ability to fire in the frontal area 190 °. Three firearms were used to fire. The range allowed to support the neighboring Saragossa shelter. The second ckm was designed to carry an oblique fire towards the sea. The facility was also planned to be equipped with a dome with a 37 mm gun. Until the outbreak of the war the dome was not delivered to Hel. The roundabout defense of the facility has been reduced to a minimum and consisted of two rkm firing rifles (one in the armored dome) and a hand grenade launcher. In addition, there was a place for the mortar 81 mm. However, its use was possible when it was set outside the facility. Entrance to the facility was defended by two internal firing ranges.
