Loreley - Sankt Goarshausen - Allemagne
Lorelei (Loreley, Loreleï ou Lorely) est le nom d'un rocher qui culmine à 132 mètres au-dessus du Rhin à proximité de Sankt Goarshausen (Saint Goarshausen en français) en Allemagne (Rhénanie-Palatinat).
C'est l'endroit le plus étroit du fleuve entre la Suisse et la mer du Nord. L'avancée du rocher réduit d'un quart la largeur du fleuve. Le courant très violent et les nombreux rochers immergés ont causé de nombreux accidents de navigation1.
Lorelei est aussi le nom d'une nixe (nymphe de la mythologie germanique) qui attire les navigateurs du Rhin à la perdition par ses chants, comme les sirènes de la mythologie grecque ancienne.
Cette légende de la Lorelei sur son rocher a inspiré de nombreux artistes, dont le poète allemand Heinrich Heine qui écrivit en 1824 l'histoire (Die Lore-Ley) qui sera mise en musique et popularisée par le compositeur Friedrich Silcher. Le rocher de la Lorelei est maintenant un site touristique très fréquenté, tant pour la beauté des lieux que pour la légende qui l'entoure.
Lorelei est une jeune fille qui, assise sur le rocher du même nom, chante magnifiquement. Les marins passent en bateaux et l'entendent. Ils sont comme envoutés par ce chant si beau, si mélodieux, qu'ils en oublient les courants du Rhin et chavirent.
À l'origine, la Lorelei a été conçue pour symboliser l'amour passionnel dans la littérature : dans une ballade (Zu Bacharach am Rheine..., 1801) du poète rhénan Clemens Brentano, la Lorelei apparut d'abord comme le nom d'une femme. Laure Lay a été trompée par son amant. Sur le chemin du cloître, elle veut jeter un dernier regard du rocher sur son château. Alors qu'elle pense voir un bateau s'éloigner, elle tombe dans le fleuve.
Brentano a écrit plusieurs variations du thème de la Lorelei. Le motif d'une femme blonde et malheureuse qui se peigne sur un rocher, apparaît pour la première fois dans son conte rhénan à partir de 1810.
Plus tard, elle passa d'un fantôme à une femme fatale. À la fin du XIXe et au début du XXe siècle, elle prit pour quelques poètes la fonction de symbole national, semblable aux Valkyries. La littérature du XXe siècle se détourna de cette interprétation. Elle apparait sous de nombreuses formes dont certaines sont ironiques, et perpétue ainsi le mythe de la Lorelei.

St. Goar is located below the dangerous rapids on the left bank of the middle Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
Anyone who drives from the Hunsrück via Simmern to St. Goar sees first the Cat and the Mouse Castle, before taking the road down to the Rhine. Both castles are part of the sister town St.Goarshausen.
The construction of Maus Castle (Mouse Castle), under the original name of St. Peterseck, was started by the Archbishop Bohemond II of Trier in 1356 and lasted 30 years. It served to enforce the Rhine toll rights and to defend the borders of the territory of Trier against the Counts of Katzenelenbogen. In the late 14th Century it served temporarily residence of the Electors. Maus Castle is now privately owned, but guided tours are offered during the summer months.
The Katz Castle (Cat Castle), originally named Castle Neukatzenelnbogen after the builder, the Count of Katzenelenbogen, who built the castle in 1371 as a toll castle for the ships sailing downstream. Today Katz Castle is owned by Japanese proprietors and was place of action for the second of the Yoko Tsuno comic series - The organ of the devil.
In 1245, after St. Goar had received city rights, Count Diether V of Katzenelenbogen erected on the left bank Rheinfels Castle as toll Castle for ships sailing upstream. In the 17th Century the castle has been expanded to the largest fortification in the Middle Rhine Valley. 1794, the castle was surrendered without a fight to the French revolutionary troops and shortly thereafter blown up.
Rheinfels Castle is the biggest castle complex at the Rhine and sits enthroned as landmark above the city of St. Goar. Today, Rheinfels Castle is an attractive tourist destination and houses the Romantic Hotel Rheinfels Castle.
The settlement in this area started in Roman times. The foundation of the city dates back to the Holy Goar who settled here in 511 AD to Christianize the rural population. At that time, he built a hermitage, hospice and a chapel from which the monastery Sankt Goar emerged.

Wer aus Richtung Simmern nach St. Goar fährt, erblickt vom Hunsrückplateau aus als erstes die Burgen Katz und Maus. Beide Burgen gehören zur Schwesterstadt St. Goarshausen. Der Bau der Burg Maus, unter dem ursprünglichen Namen St. Peterseck, wurde 1356 durch den Erzbischof Boemund II von Trier begonnen und dauerte 30 Jahre. Sie diente zur Durchsetzung der Rhein Maut Rechte und der Verteidigung der Grenzen des Herrschaftsgebetes von Trier gegen das Gebiet der Grafen von Katzenelnbogen. Im späten 14. Jahrhundert diente sie zeitweise Residenzen der Kurfürsten. Heute ist sie in Privatbesitz, jedoch werden während der Sommermonate Führungen angeboten.

Heute ist die Burg Katz im japanischen Privatbesitz und war Schauplatz für den zweiten Comic aus der Yoko Tsuno Reihe - Die Orgel des Teufels.
Bereits um 1245, nachdem St. Goar das Stadtrecht erhalten hatte, ließ Graf Diether V. von Katzenelnbogen auf der linken Rheinseite die Burg Rheinfels als Zollburg für rheinaufwärts fahrende Schiffe erbauen. Im 17. Jahrhundert wurde die Burg zur größten Wehranlage im Mittelrheintal ausgebaut. 1794 wurde die Burg den französischen Revolutionstruppen kampflos übergeben und kurz darauf gesprengt.
Burg Rheinfels ist die größte Burganlage am Rhein und überragt als Wahrzeichen die Stadt St. Goar.
Heute ist die Burg Rheinfels ein attraktives Touristenziel und beherbergt das „Romantik Hotel Schloss Rheinfels“.
Die Besiedlung der Gegend begann in römischer Zeit. Die Stadtgründung geht zurück auf den „Heiligen Goar“, der sich um 511 n Chr. hier niederließ um die Landbevölkerung zu Christianisieren. Damals errichtete er ein Hospiz und eine Kapelle, aus der das Chorherrenstift Sankt Goar hervorging.

Sankt Goar is a town on the west bank of the Middle Rhine in the Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis (district) in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Sankt Goar is well known for its central location in the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 2002. Above the town stand the ruins of Burg Rheinfels, one of the castles for which the Middle Rhine is famous, and across the river lies the sister town of Sankt Goarshausen with its own castles, Katz and Maus (“Cat” and “Mouse”). Loreley & Sankt Goarshausen am Rhein
Loreley - an einem kalten Wintertag mit Nebelschwaden.....
Die Loreley (auch Lorelei, Loreleï, Lore Lay, Lore-Ley, Lurley, Lurelei, Lurlei) ist ein Schieferfelsen bei Sankt Goarshausen, Rheinland-Pfalz, der sich am östlichen, rechten Rheinufer (am Rheinkilometer 555) 132 Meter (193,14 m ü. NN) hoch steil aufragend an der Innenseite einer Rheinkurve befindet. Wenige hundert Meter vom Aussichtspunkt entfernt befindet sich die 1939 erbaute Freilichtbühne Loreley, wo regelmäßig Großveranstaltungen (zum Beispiel Rockkonzerte) stattfinden.
Sankt Goarshausen und die Burg Katz
Urkundlich erwähnt wird Sankt Goarshausen erstmals im Jahr 1222. Sankt Goarshausen unterstand ab 1298 der Grafschaft Katzenelnbogen, die es durch Heirat von den Herren von Isenburg[5] erhielt und bekam 1324 durch König Ludwig IV. die Stadtrechte. Die über der Stadt liegende Burg Katz (eigentlich Burg Neu-Katzenelnbogen) wurde um 1371 durch Graf Wilhelm II. von Katzenelnbogen erbaut.
Heute befindet sich die Burg in japanischem Privatbesitz. Eine Besichtigung der Burg ist nicht möglich.
Sankt Goarshausen fiel mit dem Ende des Grafengeschlechts 1479 an die Landgrafschaft Hessen.

The Lorely VI Ferry runs across the River Rhine at regular intervals all day long, transporting foot passengers, cyclists and road vehicles. The journey (river traffic permitting) takes around 5 minutes, this short film features time lapse footage speeded up 4 times of the crossing from St. Goar to St. Goarshausen and back.
