Lost Maples Winery – Vanderpool, Texas
You’re in for a real treat when you come to visit this place both in scenery and wines. Bandera County is definitely one of the best places along the southern part of the Hill Country to swim and camp. Now, you have a great winery to add to your get-a-way adventures. Owners Tom and Glenda Slaughter starting growing grapes on the family land back in 2005/2006. Their Polvadeau Vineyards stakes its claim as the first commercial vineyard in Bandera County. Glenda’s family has been here for 175+ years and she is staying true to loving and tending the land. Their 12 acre estate currently has about 2000 vines of Black Spanish grapes planted. One look at the vines and you don’t need to be an expert to tell that they take good care of their plants. That care and love for the land is also reflected in the wine that they make. All wines are made at their estate facility. They opened back in January 2015. Currently, there are five wines to try out. The 2013 Polvadeau Vin Blanc is a Sauvignon Blanc based wine which is quite crisp with bold citrus flavors. The 2013 Polvadeau Vin Symphonique is made with the symphony grape. Sourced from California, this hybrid grape is highly aromatic. It has a sweet sense at first, but then quickly dissipates and leaves a refreshing feel on the palate. The 2013 Lenoir (Polvadeau Vin Rouge) was oaked for two years. It is quite nice with good flavors and smooth finish. Who knew a Lenoir could have this kind of quality taste! The 2014 Polvadeau L’Inspiration is a blend of 80% Lenoir and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, which has a surprising Pinot Noir like taste. Lastly, the 2014 Polvadeau du Dieu is their Lenoir dessert wine. Fortified with cognac, this fortified wine at 18% alcohol is sure to be a nice pairing for your favorite dark chocolate. We also got to taste their 60/40 Petite Sirah/Lenoir blend (Polvadeu Vin Rouge XL) which is expected to be released shortly. The Slaughters have really hit the mark on this last wine and it's sure to be a top selling Lenoir blend . If you want to taste what quality Lenoir wine is, then do come here. Plus, there’s nothing like checking out a brand new facility! As it turns out, Tom was also a musician with Mickey Gilley back in the days. Gilley’s will be re-opening again and will be featuring Lost Maples bottled wines. What a way to come back with a Texas twist! Tom and Glenda are really nice people and will take great care of you when you stop in to visit. They are very friendly and warm hosts with some fun tales to tell we're certain! Feel free to take your time and enjoy the fantastic surrounding scenery as it is a delightful drive on some of the most beautiful roads in Texas. They are also conveniently located very close to the entrance of the Lost Maples park, so you might want to plan an extended outing to visit both as you enjoy getting lost in this little piece of mountainous paradise. Have fun and enjoy!

Lost Maples Winery at the Polvadeau Vineyards
Nestled in the Sabinal Canyon along the Sabinal River in Bandera County , Texas , one will find 'Lost Maples Winery, LLC.' located on the Polvadeau Vineyards ('Polvadeau' is the original spelling of 'Polvado'. It is of French origin). It is graced by mountains and crystal clear springs that feed into the Sabinal River . We are fortunate to call this place home finding peace and strength from God's creation. The winery and vineyard are making excellent use of the land held in the Polvado family since land grants were issued. We are the first commercial winery and commercial vineyard in Bandera County located 65 plus miles northwest of San Antonio , Texas , on Highway 187 approximately 1 mile south of Lost Maples Park .
We are growing the Black Spanish Lenoir Grapes which were originally brought over from Spain into Mexico , and missionaries brought the grapes up around the existing border of Texas in order to make communion wine. This grape and been around for hundreds of years and has survived droughts, cold winters and floods. Today, the Black Spanish Lenoir Grape is making a name for itself. Here at our winery we are making a communion wine, Polvadeau du Dieu (Wine of the Father), which is a port and our signature wine. We are also making a Polvadeau Red, a Polvadeau Blush, a Polvadeau Dry White and a Polvadeau Sweet White.
We cordially invite you to visit our piece of paradise and that you will find solace in the crystal waters of the Sabinal River and renewed energy from the mountains. While here, we hope you will honor us by sampling what, we believe, is the best wine the Texas Hill Country has to offer.

Unexpected Texas Adventure Year 29 Days 32 & 33
I got in the car with my best friend without a plan or a care and just drove away. We went 800 miles in 31 hours: Houston, Luling, Lockhart, San Marcos, Bandera, Vanderpool, Lost Maples State Park, Hunt, Kerville, San Antonio, Luling, Eagle Lake, Rosenberg, Houston.
It was an incredible experience. I saw parts of Texas I had never seen before. To anyone who says Texas is flat - you're wrong.

Twisted Sisters 337 - Leakey, TX to Vanderpool, TX
This section of the 337 is what I considered the best part of the Three Twisted Sisters located in Texas. The views are great, the turns and hills are great. Unfortunately, it just doesn't compare to what I grew up riding on.

Had a wonderful stay at Kerrville-Schreiner Park which use to be a state park but now is owned by the City of Kerrville Texas. A beautiful Park within minutes of down town Kerrville. Lots of wildlife and great fishing in the Guadalupe River. Met up with some great friends over in Boerne, Texas, Justin and Christine Hunt and family. Had one of the best Bar-B-Q dinners I think I have ever had, Thanks Justine and Christine for the great hostility. Hope this gives you an incite in case you might ever want to stay there. We hope you like what you see, if so Please Subscribe and Share, Thanks for watching.

I also had a little time to pick up a bottle of wine to review: The Polvadeau Vin Symphonique!

Cast Them Away - Acoustic 08 02 2009
This was recorded at Lost Maples State Park in the Hill Country (Texas). We were camping there and Gabe entertained us and our fellow campers with this song he and a friend co-wrote.
He wrote it to be played on e-guitar but it works pretty well for an acoustic, I think.
By the way, Gabe is not spastic, it was actually dusk and the mosquitos were confusing his face and ears with a buffet. :)
