Lotte Hotel, Seoul 18 October 2013
President Benigno S. Aquino III met with around 400 members of the Filipino Community in South Korea before ending his two-day state visit in the country.
In his keynote speech, the President talked on the government's efforts in addressing humanitarian crises and calamities such as the recent Zamboanga siege and the powerful quake that hit the Central Visayas on Tuesday (October 15).
Supisyente na ngayon ang kakayahan ng pamahalaang matugunan, kahit pa isama ang mga may kakaibang pangangailangan, he said.
President Aquino also remarked that governments funds are now available and enough to respond to calamities and rehabilitation efforts.
During the meeting, he conferred the Order of Lakandula with the rank of Officer (Pinuno) to Jasmine Bacurnay-Lee, the first naturalized Korean to be elected as a member of the National Assembly of Korea.
She is being recognized for her contributions in fostering cordial and bilateral relations between the Philippines and Republic of Korea and promoting multiculturalism and the migrant women's rights. As a member of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Trade and Unification and the Committee on Gender Equality and Family of the Korean Assembly, she also promoted the welfare of migrant communities in Korea.
Ms. Lee has helped in securing the approval relief and rehabilitation assistance from Korea for the Typhoon Pablo victims in the Philippines.
