Lake Martin Loop - Trails in Louisiana Near Lafayette
Cypress Island Preserve is approximately 9,500 acres of protected cypress-tupelo swamp and bottomland hardwood forest habitat. There is a 2.5 mile levee walk and a 2.5 mile road walk that is suppose to create a 5 mile loop trail around Lake Martin. I was unable to finish the trail due to conditions that I felt were unsafe. I do plan to return later in the fall and see if the trail is more open then. From what I saw, this is a beautiful area and I can't wait to return!

Trees & Trails and Barton Arboretum - LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens
Enjoy an invigorating hike or a leisurely stroll through Trees & Trails at Burden, part of the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens. The trail includes approximately 3 miles of interactive walking paths and boardwalks through an urban forest and wetlands in the heart of Baton Rouge. The trails are open to the public from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. seven days a week for unguided exploration. Trees & Trails also offers educational opportunities for schools, scout troops and other youth organizations. Project Learning Tree tours provide fun-filled learning experiences that enhance understanding of trees, ecosystems and the environment.
Steele Burden designed the Barton Arboretum in memory of Scott Duchein Barton, a close friend and founding member of the Burden Foundation. The arboretum is enclosed by spruce pine and has a circular drive through live oaks which memorialize friends and dignitaries who over the years made significant contributions to the AgCenter. Native trees were planted among the pines and a small pond provides a setting for quiet reflection. Included in the arboretum are the James Wandersee Palmetto Walk and the Early American Camellia Collection.

Places to see in ( Baton Rouge - USA )
Places to see in ( Baton Rouge - USA )
Baton Rouge is a city on the Mississippi River, and the capital of Louisiana. Antebellum landmarks include the castle-like Old Louisiana State Capitol, now a museum, and Magnolia Mound Plantation, with its French Creole house. LSU Rural Life Museum is a complex of refurbished buildings illustrating 18th- and 19th-century life. On the river, the USS Kidd is a retired WWII destroyer that is now a museum.
Baton Rouge is a major industrial, petrochemical, medical, research, motion picture, and growing technology center of the American South. It is the location of Louisiana State University, the LSU System's flagship university and the largest institution of higher education in the state. It is also the location of Southern University, the flagship institution of the Southern University System, the only historically black college system in the nation. The Port of Greater Baton Rouge is the 10th-largest in the United States in terms of tonnage shipped, and is the farthest upstream Mississippi River port capable of handling Panamax ships.
The Baton Rouge area owes its historical importance to its strategic site upon the Istrouma Bluff, the first natural bluff upriver from the Mississippi River Delta. This allowed development of a business quarter safe from seasonal flooding. In addition, the city built a levee system stretching from the bluff southward to protect the riverfront and low-lying agricultural areas. The city is a culturally rich center, with settlement by immigrants from numerous European nations and African peoples brought to North America as slaves or indentured servants. It was ruled by seven different governments: French, British, and Spanish in the colonial era, West Floridian, United States territory and state, Confederate, and United States again.
Baton Rouge has many neighborhoods both inside and outside the city limits:

Ville Platte Smoked Meat Festival | Cajun Grocer Traveler
The Cajun Grocer Traveler visited the Ville Platte Smoked Meats Festival. The festival is a celebration of Louisiana food that is prepared grilled or smoked. Among some of the tasty items that our Cajun Grocer Traveler got to sample were bang bang chicken, bacon wrapped duck breast, back strap and pecan-crusted trout. If you can't make it to Ville Platte for the festival, then head over to cajungrocer.com and order fresh Louisiana products. You can have your own festival in your backyard.

Places to see in ( Wilmington - USA )
Places to see in ( Wilmington - USA )
Wilmington is a port city in North Carolina. It’s known as a gateway to Cape Fear Coast beaches like Wrightsville, with its strong surf, and Carolina, with its long boardwalk. Part of downtown’s Historic District, the Riverwalk is lined with restaurants, galleries and shops. It runs along the Cape Fear River, where the Battleship North Carolina is moored. Artifacts on the ship explore WWII naval combat history.
Wilmington was settled by the English along the Cape Fear River. The city was named after Spencer Compton who was the Earl of Wilmington. Its historic downtown has a 1.75-mile (2.82 km) Riverwalk, developed as a tourist attraction in the late 20th century. In 2014 Wilmington's riverfront was ranked as the Best American Riverfront by readers of USA Today. It is minutes away from nearby beaches. The National Trust for Historic Preservation selected Wilmington as one of its 2008 Dozen Distinctive Destinations. City residents live between the river and the ocean, with four nearby beach communities: Fort Fisher, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach, all within half-hour drives from downtown Wilmington.
Wilmington is the home of EUE Screen Gems Studios, the largest domestic television and movie production facility outside California. Dream Stage 10, the facility's newest sound stage, is the third-largest in the US. It houses the largest special-effects water tank in North America. After the studio's opening in 1984, Wilmington became a major center of American film and television production. Numerous movies in a range of genres and several television series have been produced here, including Maximum Overdrive, Iron Man 3, Fox's Sleepy Hollow, One Tree Hill, Dawson's Creek and NBC's Revolution.

Louisiana Tech University
Louisiana Tech University, colloquially referred to as Louisiana Tech or La. Tech, is a coeducational public research university in Ruston, Louisiana, United States. Louisiana Tech is designated as a Tier One national university by the 2016 U.S. News & World Report college rankings and is the only Tier One national university in the nine-member University of Louisiana System. As a designated space grant college, member of the Southeastern Universities Research Association, member of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, and Carnegie Research University with high research activity, Louisiana Tech conducts research with ongoing projects funded by agencies such as NASA, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and the Federal Aviation Administration. Louisiana Tech is one of less than 50 comprehensive research universities in the nation and the only university in Louisiana to be designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education and Research and a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education and Research by the National Security Agency and the United States Department of Homeland Security. The university is known for its engineering and science programs.
Louisiana Tech opened as the Industrial Institute and College of Louisiana in 1894 during the Second Industrial Revolution. The original mission of the college was for the education of students in the arts and sciences for the purpose of developing an industrial economy in post-Reconstruction Louisiana. Four years later, the state constitution changed the school's name to Louisiana Industrial Institute. In 1921, the college changed its name to Louisiana Polytechnic Institute to reflect its evolution into a larger and more capable institute of technology. Under the leadership of Dr. F. Jay Taylor, the college continued to grow and change over time. Louisiana Polytechnic Institute became desegregated in the 1960s and officially changed its name to Louisiana Tech University in 1970 as the school developed into a research university.

Taxodium distichum (Swamp Cypress)
A species of deciduous conifer native to the south-eastern United States, Taxodium distichum grows to be an attractive, tall, conical tree.
The pretty, soft green and fern-like leaves will turn shades of rich reddish-brown in autumn before they fall. Taxodium distichum is an eye-catching garden tree which thrives in wet conditions. Taxodium looks fantastic when planted in groups next to ponds or streams.
