ASI: ARCHAEOLOGY SCENE INVESTIGATIONS IN NORTH COUNTY LOUTH
This exhibition highlights some of the many archaeological discoveries made during the construction of the M1 western bypass. The exhibition can be seen at the County Museum, Dundalk and is entitled ASI Archaeological Scene Investigations in North Louth.
The exhibition features a host of interesting discoveries including a couple of beautifully decorated and carved stones, a copper pin, glass beads, several intact bowls dating from the Stone Age as well as an extremely rare bowl with five feet.

The County Museum, Dundalk is located in a beautifully restored late 18th century warehouse in the Carroll Centre at Roden Place in Jocelyn Street.
The museum opened in 1994 and offers an extensive programme of permanent exhibitions, temporary displays, drama presentations, music recitals, lecture and film.

150th Anniversary of the Ordination of Fr. James Cullen SJ.
Fr. James A Cullen SJ, founder of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association, was ordained in Carlow Cathedral 150 years ago on 28th October 1864 . Most Rev Dr Denis Nulty, Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin, celebrated Mass at 11am in Carlow Cathedral on Sunday 26th October, 2014 and Monsignor Kevin O'Neill conducted a tour of Carlow College, where Fr. Cullen studied for the priesthood from 1861 to 1864, for scores of visitors. Fr Cullen was able to mix with the visitors at this special event. Meet Fr. Cullen in this video.

FACES FROM THE PAST - MERCHANT SEAMEN FROM DUNDALK IN THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY
On Thursday July 8th an exhibition on Dundalk's seafaring past was opened by Charley McCarthy at the County Museum, Dundalk. Faces from the Past -- Merchant Seamen from Dundalk in the early Twentieth Century features a collection of over 350 identity cards of Dundalk men who served in the merchant navy between 1918-1921. The cards include personal details, foreign voyages and most importantly, a passport style photo of each seaman.
An accompanying 24-page booklet has also been produced. Copies are available from the Museum itself or may be downloaded by visiting dundalkmuseum.ie.
The exhibition is based on the work of Rush-based maritime historian, David Snook, whose website irishmariners.ie contains the details of some 23,000 Irish merchant seamen.
Admission to the exhibition is free.

Faces of the Past is an exhibition currently running at Louth County Museum, displaying the identification cards of Louth merchant seamen from the period around World War 1. The Dundalk Democrat was there for opening night of this fascinating exhibition and spoke to its co-ordinator, David Snook.
