He built the castle on two free plots of land that his scouts obtained by paying for one-year subscriptions to The Cincinnati Enquirer. For over fifty years, Andrews worked on his castle project. He pulled stones from the nearby Little Miami River, and when that supply was exhausted, molded bricks with cement and quart milk cartons.
When Andrews died in 1981 he willed the castle to his Boy Scout troop the Knights of the Golden Trail (KOGT). The Castle has been extensively upgraded and renovated in the years since Andrews death and has been mostly completed by the KOGT. The East tower now houses a short video presentation on Andrews' quest to finish his dream. The walls of the upstairs chapel feature many stones brought back by Andrews in his world travels and others sent to him from foreign locations by his friends and followers. Recently completed are an expansion to the outside gardens and a greenhouse.
Tales of the castle being haunted -- often coming from Chateau Laroche's own volunteer knights -- have been reported over the years.

Loveland, Ohio
The Sweetheart of Ohio!
Loveland is one of my FAVORITE cities in Ohio! This river city has small town charm with all of the amenities of a full service city. Although you might never want (or need) to leave, it's conveniently located just 20 miles from downtown Cincinnati and an easy commute to almost anywhere!
It's no wonder Ohio Magazine rated Loveland in the top 5 of Best Ohio Hometowns!
Loveland boasts a vibrant downtown with charming shops, delicious dining, family friendly recreation, seasonal festivals, weekly farmers market, community arts and theater and so much more.
Stroll along the streets and you'll meet bicyclists traveling the Little Miami Bike Trail, friends gathering for patio dining, artists displaying their work, and families browsing the unique shops. Check out the local arts and culture and visit local destinations such as The Loveland Stage Company or The Studios on Main!
Ready for some fun? Rent a canoe and boat down the Little Miami River! Did you know there is a REAL castle to tour? When visiting the Loveland Castle, don't forget to pack a picnic lunch and eat by the river. Of course, the Little Miami Bike Trail runs right through the heart of Loveland. Rent a bike, jog or bring your dog and stroll along this scenic section of the 78 mile path!
The weekly farmers market is an event you won't want to miss! Discover a new coffee, support local farmers, find that special gift, get a message, or just enjoy the friendly crowds.
Excellent Schools
Loveland is served by several school districts, including Loveland City Schools, Sycamore Community Schools, and the Little Miami School District.
Loveland City Schools is consistently rated Excellent or higher by the state of Ohio. Superior academics, quality sports programs and diverse extra curricular activities are a big part of what makes the schools great. Even better, the community continually supports the education of their children. There is a lot of community pride for the schools!
So what is the Loveland the housing market like?
The average sale price in September 2014 for a home in Loveland was $198,465. However, you will find a wide range of homes and neighborhoods to choose from! I can help the first time home buyer find a great starter home in one of many neighborhoods that are perfect for young families. I am also quite familiar with the long list of neighborhoods that offer top notch amenities and homes to satisfy your every desire!
I have been active in Loveland, OH real estate for many years! I have sold over 140 homes in this area alone. If you have any questions about this great city, don't hesitate to give me a call!

Airtime visit to Loveland Castle (Chateau LaRoche)
If you enjoy uncommon architecture, or if your into visiting down the list of most haunted places..then Loveland castle should be a place to mark down. Located just outside of Cincinnati, Chateau LaRoche (as originally named) is a delightful folly of a time long past with its medieval setting taking things back to the era of chivalry and honor of knighthood. Inspired by his life long interest in the these grand concepts, H. Andrews spent 50 years hand building the entire castle....by hand....by himself. With an IQ of 189, Mr. Andrews ingenuity was the champion of his passion project as when he exhausted his supply of natural river stone from the bordering Little Miami river..he made his own using old milk cartons and concrete! The fun fact list of Loveland castle and its creator Harry Andrews
is seemingly endless (for instance he constructed a secret room in the castle gardens that was only discovered years later after it collapsed from lack of upkeep..his beloved Knights of the golden trail even knew nothing of it!) As elluded to earlier, it is also one of the states most haunted places, with documented personal encounters of paranormal activity by guests and it curators. Today the castle is a museum that houses Mr. Andrews collection of period artifacts that he obtained during his time in WW1 and travels afterward, such as the highlighted sword collection. If you are traveling to the Cincinnati area or happen to be passing through with some time to explore, Loveland castle is easily a place worth visiting!
