Road closures and evacuations disrupt central Taiwan
Over 270 tourists and workers were evacuated from the Lushan hot springs area over the past three days. Yesterday 30 holdouts who refused to leave still remained. But landslide fears and rising water levels led authorities to enact forced evacuation measures today. Those who refused will be punished severely.In Nantou County a landslide beside Renai Township's Cingjing清境 Farm put 11 people in two households in danger. They were all saved. Farmers on an industrial road were trapped by landslides. And floods destroyed a road beside Mingjhu 名竹Bridge, a 200-meter embankment and several plots of farmland.A landslide struck Provincial Highway No. 6 between Miaoli's Gongguan and Dahu. Driving from 青青草原 (The Evergreen Grassland) to 太魯閣 (Taroko Gorge/Tarako National Park) via 武嶺 and 合歡山 (aka Joy Mountain)
We can see deep valley, chain of mountains, mountainous forest and mountains peak. Highway penetrates the mountains through tunnels constructed across mountains. We could even touched the clouds. Great experience!
N.B: 合歡山 (Hehuanshan) is in Central Taiwan and the peak lies on the boundaries of Nantou and Hualien counties and is within the Taroko Gorge National Park. (

The Qingjing Farm (Chinese: 清境農場; pinyin: Qīngjìng Nóngchǎng), also known as Cingjing Farm, is a tourist attraction farm in Ren'ai Township, Nantou County, Taiwan.

To get the bus ticket going to Cingjing Farm:
Tip: 1st bus depart at 8:40am (from Taichung Gancheng Station), it's best that you will reach the bus station as early as possible because the journey to Cingjing Farm is almost 3hrs.

The movie Seediq Bale has recently brought much awareness to the Seediq tribe and its culture. Practically just about anything Seediq these days is a topic of interest, including the hot springs in which they used to soak.

The Seediq lived in Renai Township. Nantou has the highest hot spring density in the country, and many are here in Renai. We have carbonic acid springs here.
Following a nice hot bath is a tasty meal made from very simple ingredients.

Food in those days was very simple. They ate whatever that the rivers and mountains provided.
If they caught a bore, they'd trade it with people at the bottom of the mountain for salt, and salt was the only seasoning they had. At that time, there was no refrigerator either, so when they caught a bore, they'd salt it to preserve it. That's why there is a lot of salted bore in their cuisine, and also shrimp and freshwater fish.
During the Japanese occupation, the Seediq decided to fight and to take back their dignity and sacred hunting grounds. One day, Mona Rudao, a Seediq chief launched a brutal attack.
After a second incident, there were less than 300 Seediq tribespeople left, and all of whom were then relocated to an internment camp.
If you're looking for a bit of history and culture to go with a hot spring trip, Nantou's Renai Township will not disappoint.

We've been planning to go on this trip since 5 years ago and it's amazing how these ten days flew by so quickly.

Day 1:
Our journey begins and our first stop is Da Keng Leisure Farm at Tainan!
It's a hot springs spa and from there you can get a spectacular view of the sunrise.

Day 2:
From the mountainous Tainan we head to sunny paradise Kenting, which is located at the South of Taiwan. We stayed at Minimi Inn, a minsu with cute interior design and an excellent central location. Highly recommended if you're staying at Kenting!
Day 3:
Fun, sun and sand awaits us at Kenting and the ocean there is really so deep blue. It's breath taking! We also went to Ou Luan Bi Lighthouse, the star attraction of Kenting, and the small town of Hengchun too.
Day 4:
Today, we left Kenting for Taipei! The highlight of the day is definitely our trip to Shilin Night Market where we got to try all of Taiwan's delicious street food. We stayed at Bonstay, a bed and breakfast inn, and certainly our favorite accommodation of the entire trip! Really really recommend it if you're staying in Taipei.
Day 5:
We spent our entire day at Leofoo Village, a theme park cum animal safari and made our money worth by going on all the rides! The most exhilarating, adrenaline pumped day of our entire trip! Check out our other videos by roving reporter Meihui at her facebook page too!
Day 6:
Shopping day at Wufenpu! Check out our R21 Summer Fashion Show featuring the clothes we bought.
Day 7:
Shopping day at Ximending! We also ate at the famous Modern Toilet restaurant there. Our new hotel is Taipei Neo Square Skydome which is a cosy loft apartment. The beds are a little too hard for my liking so I won't really recommend it hahaha. Check out our R21 Summer Fashion Show too! :D
Day 8:
Today, we explored the Danshui area but sadly the weather got the better of us so we didn't manage to go cycling in the island of Bali as planned, but we spent the rest of the day at Shilin instead.
Day 9:
We got on the local trains and explored Jiu Fen and Shi Fen. Jiu Fen is up in the mountains in the clouds, a bustling alley full of specialty food shops and souvenir trinkets. Definitely full of magic as well. ^^ We ended our trip in Taiwan on a high note setting off our sky lanterns with our hopes and dreams all written on them.

A first in my life! Conquered Hehuanshan North Peak of Taiwan which is 3422 Meters in altitude. The highest Mountain Ive hiked.
I love nature so much and will continue to do so.
I was fortunate enough to be invited on this hike and met new friends.
