Lucayan National Park - Grand Bahama
Day trip to Lucayan National Park on Grand Bahama. Pretty cool place to spend half a day. There's a few interior caves to explore and Gold Rock Beach, which is one of the best on the island.

reeport is located just 80 miles (130 km) off the coast of Palm Beach, Florida, and on the major EW–NS shipping routes. This has positioned it as an ideal centre for international business. Consequently, a growing number of international companies use Freeport for a business site.
National parks[edit]
Parks include the Rand Nature Centre, named after its founder James Rand; Petersons Cay, a small isle about 300 yards off the shore of Grand Bahama; and the Lucayan National Park founded by Peter Barratt, a former architect and town planner of Freeport. The Lucayan National Park is 40 acres (0.16 km2) in extent and includes five ecological zones stretching from the south shore to the pineyard.[4] There is an extensive underwater cave system beneath the park. One cave entrance is accessible by stairs at the national park. Other caves are accessible for certified scubas.
Climate[edit]
Freeport features a tropical rainforest climate according to Köppen Climate Classification (Af), more specifically with mild winters and hot, humid summers. Seldom do temperatures drop below 60 °F (16 °C). Average temperatures range in the low to upper 80s, with water temperature varying between 72 to 78 °F (22 to 26 °C). The winters are usually mild (mid-60s to 70s) and dry (with the exception of some rainfall due to cold fronts), while the summers are usually hot and wet. Although a freeze has never been reported in the Bahamas, snow was reported to have mixed with rain in Freeport in January 1977, the same time that it snowed in the Miami area. The temperature was about 4.5 °C (40.1 °F) at the time.[5]

Another PERFECT day on Grand Bahama Island! In this video we visit Grand Lucaya National park, where we hike a trail to see Ben's Cave and Burial Mounds Cave. After we head over to Gold Rock Beach... a gorgeous, deserted, untouched, natural beach which remains shallow during low tide. We had the best day here!

Amazing beach, snorkeling, and kayaking all in one day! Back in November, I took a little family trip over to the Bahamas and of course explored some of the marine habitats in the area. See if you recognize some of the fish and corals in the video (beyond what I already labeled!)
Enjoy some time in the tropics!
This trip occurred on November 17th 2018.

Family Vacations in Grand Bahama Island
The Bahamas Chief Family Officer describes why Grand Bahama Island is the go-to island for families who are explorers at heart. Home to one of the world's largest underwater cave systems and three national parks, the island offers a variety of ways to explore its wildlife. Kayak Nature Tours takes visitors through the shallow waters of mangrove creeks while East End Adventure offers culture safaris through eco-zones. And, with a wide range of culinary offerings, there is something for each member of the family to enjoy.

Ben's Cavern Grand Bahama
A few guides have been authorized to take limited numbers of divers into the beautiful Ben's Cavern east of Port Lucaya on Grand Bahama Island.
We went with Sunn Odyssey company. Their great experience taking people into the caverns for decades makes them the ideal guides.
They drive you out and get you set up, then you walk maybe 100 yards along a trail to reach the circular stairway leading down into the sinkhole surrounded by orchids and bromeliads.
Wetsuits are a good idea. The water is around 74 degrees, but warms up some as you hit the halocline where fresh rain water meets the saline sea water.
Observe that sometimes the video gets hazy or wavery as we shoot through the halocline. Otherwise, the water is crystal clear with some amazing visibility. The eye is fooled thinking things are much closer than they really are.
Exploration is in the outer reaches of the very large cave system that's one of the biggest in the Americas.
Note the salt water fish that have adapted to the fresh water.
Thanks to Capt. Brian McLean for some of the wide angle photography.
