Friends and Fatbikes in Lulea - Sweden 4K Travel Channel

During our stay in Northern Europe, we visited a travel blogger conference in Stockholm. On this occasion, Visit Lulea and Swedish Lapland organized a multi-day excursion to the north of Sweden, to Lulea. Lulea is approx. 110 km south of the northern polar circle at the muzzle of the Lule to the Gulf of Bothnia. The municipality of Lulea has about 78,000 inhabitants.
After a short tour around Lulea and the check-in at the Clarion Hotel Sense, we should strengthen ourselves with some food. The Friends Fika and Food restaurant lies in the pedestrian zone and has its own bakery. A nice place for a coffee or a lunch break during shopping or a stroll through the city.
Here we have the chance to learn more about the members of our travel group and the travel guides for this day, Fredrik and Camilla.
After we have chosen our meal, we intensify the information exchange. Fredrik, one of the travel guides, sits at our table. He tells us about the Swedes and that at least half of the Swedes have a boat to explore the skerries or the archipelago. We then reply: the other half has a camping bus or caravan. Laughing, he agreed. Later he tells us that he also runs a lodge, the Aurora Safari Camp. He got the idea during his travels in Africa.
After the meal, which by the way tasted very good, we go to Ouroboros Lulea. They offer tours and bikes. But these are no ordinary bicycles but Fatbikes. Fatbikes are bicycles with a light frame and extra wide tires. Eric Schlemme and Susanne Törnlind, the two owners, expect us already.
After a short introduction, one adjusts the seats individually in the height and we are ready to go. Olov, a savvy cyclist, as well as Eric and Susanne accompany us. First, we ride on a trail through a park to get the right feeling for the fat bikes. After a short time, we we arrive at the skatepark where Olov shows us a few of his tricks.
In the further course, we pass by the steelworks in Lulea and get a little idea of ​​the importance of the steel industry and ore mining in Sweden.

Während unseres Aufenthalts in Nord Europa besuchten wir eine Travel Blogger Konferenz in Stockholm. In deren Rahmen organisierte Visit Lulea und Swedish Lapland einen mehrtägigen Ausflug in den Norden Schwedens, nach Lulea.
Lulea liegt ca. 110 km südlich des nördlichen Polarkreises an der Mündung des Lule in den Bottnischen Meerbusen. Die Gemeinde Lulea umfasst ca. 78.000 Einwohner.
Nach einer kurzen Rundfahrt durch den Ort und dem Check in im Clarion Hotel Sense sollen wir uns erst einmal stärken. Das Restaurant Friends Fika and Food liegt direkt in der Fußgängerzone und hat auch eigene Bäckerei. Es ist der ideale Ort für eine Kaffeepause oder ein Mittagessen während der Einkäufe oder einem Spaziergang durch die Stadt.
Hier können wir die Mitglieder unserer Reisegruppe und die Reiseführer, Fredrik und Camilla, die uns hier vor Ort begleiten werden, besser kennenlernen.
Nachdem wir ein Essen gewählt haben, wird der Informationsaustausch intensiviert. Mit am Tisch sitzt Fredrik, einer der Reiseführer. Er erzählt uns von den Schweden und dass mindestens die Hälfte der Schweden ein Boot besitzt um die Schären oder die Archipele zu erkunden. Darauf antworten wir: die andere Hälfte besitzt dann einen Campingbus oder Wohnwagen. Lachend stimmte er uns zu. Später erzählt er uns, dass er auch eine Lodge betreibt, das Aurora Safari Camp. Die Idee hierzu war ihm bei seinen Reisen in Afrika gekommen.
Nach dem Essen, das übrigens sehr gut schmeckte, geht es zu Ouroboros, die Touren und Bikes anbieten. Keine gewöhnlichen Fahrräder sondern Fatbikes, Das sind Fahrräder mit leichtem Rahmen und extra breiten Reifen. Eric Schlemme und Susanne Törnlind, die beiden Besitzer, erwarten uns bereits.
Wir bekommen eine kurze Einführung von Eric, dann werden rasch die Sitze in der Höhe individuell eingestellt und schon geht es los. Olov, ein versierter Radkünstler, sowie Eric und Susanne begleiten uns.
Zuerst fahren wir auf einem Wanderweg durch einen Park um ein Gefühl für die Räder zu entwickeln. Nach kurzer Zeit treffen wir auf einen Skatepark, wo uns Olov ein paar seiner Übungen zeigt.
Im weiteren Verlauf passieren wir das Stahlwerk in Lulea und bekommen einen kleinen Eindruck davon, welche Bedeutung die Stahlindustrie und der Erzabbau in Schweden hat.

Luleå has a long winter. Winter lasts for 6 months and there is only around 4 hours of daylight during winter time. 21 December is the shortest period of daylight.
