Ramla Bay or Ramla l-Hamra, is located at the bottom of a rich and fertile valley just beneath the village of Xaghra. Ramla Bay has a splendid stretch of orange sand with blue waters. Beach facilities include cafés, water sports and sunshades are available on the beach.
Romans Remains:
A 19-room Roman Villa-Bathhouse were discovered beneath the sands. 1910, Dr Temi Zammit led the excavations. The remains were covered in 1915 to protect from posterity. The artifacts and site plans are displayed at the Archeology Museum.
Calypso Caves
According to Homer in The Odyssey, the nymph Calypso lived in this cave and it is where she entertained Ulysses for 7 years before he resumed his journey.
Ramla Batteries & Redoubts:
Between 1715-1716, the Knights of St John began building a series of fortifications to guard the bay to prevent the invaders and pirates from disembarking at ease. The plans were further developed by the French military architect
Underwater Obstruction: In 1723 century, the Knights built the underwater walls to obstruct the entrance of vessels from the enemy into the bays.
Ramla Fougasse
Built by the Knights, the fougasse is a rock-cut cannon with the axles pointing at the probable route that the enemy would take. It is charged with a barrel of gunpowder and loaded them with rocks. It is to discharge a shower of stone to damage the enemy galleys.

My Choice - Lunzjata Valley, Gozo: Serenades by Toselli & Schubert
One of the most peaceful and beautiful spots in Malta is the Lunzjata Valley at Kercem, Gozo. It's a picturesque and very fertile valley. We will visit this Valley and its Chapel which was built in the early 16th Century. You will also enjoy two beautiful and peaceful serenades:
1. Enrico Toselli (1883 -1926 Florence) was a Italian pianist and composer. At a very early age he started on a brilliant career as a concert pianist in Italy, the principal European capitals and also in Alexandria, Egypt and North America. Later he settled in Florence, teaching and composing, while still appearing frequently on the concert platform.
2. Franz Schubert's immortal Serenade which was written in 1826. It is a very familiar melody and needs no analysis. It is simply a lovely melody from first note to last, written upon the inspiration of the moment, and yet characterized by absolute perfection of finish and a grace and beauty of which one never tires

My Choice - Touring Nadur, Gozo: Cobos & Strauss
A tour of one of Gozo's Villages - NADUR while enjoying 2 beautiful selections:
1. La leyenda del beso - by Luis Cobos
2. Dame of Danube Waltz op. 427 - by Johann Strauss
Photos by Choy Hong (Jasmine) Grech except as noted.
Nadur is situated on the easternmost hill of the small island of Gozo, Malta's sister-island. Nadur, a lofty, lookout plateau, has a population of around 4,000 people which makes Nadur one of the largest localities in Gozo.
One can still find a many farmers and seafarers. Quantities of fresh fruit like apples, peaches, pears, plums, oranges, lemon and melons from the fields of Nadur are distributed around all Malta and Gozo. Along Nadur's coastline one can see the peaceful bays of San Blas, Dahlet Qorrot and Ramla.
Ta' Sopu Tower lies half way through Dahlet Qorrot and San Blas. As the village motto has it, Nadur is in itself a watch house for the island. The Nadurin were watchful sentries who could spot danger in time and call the alarm. There is another tower known as Kenuna Tower. This was built in 1848, and served as a telegraph link between Malta and Gozo and not as a fort. Recently Kenuna tower was completely restored and is now serving for communication purposes.
The new Maltese Garden at Kenuna makes this area a must-see for all visitors. From here one can enjoy one of the most magnificent views in the Maltese Islands.

Lunzjata-Xlendi Valley Oil Spill.wmv
This clip was taken on Saturday 3rd April 2010 around 12pm, when the oil spill was in full flow. The stench of the oil spill was diesel-like, but oil was present, as one can see in the clip.
According to well-informed sources, the oil spill started early yesterday morning (Saturday 3rd April). Police arrived at the scene at around 3pm. Trap booms were set-up to stop the oil flow further down the stream, just under the Roman/Medieval Watch Tower.
Action by the police and civil protection personnel, stopped the oil from finding its way further down the valley and finishing on the small beach of Xlendi, when swimming season already started. This pollution may have also damaged the freshwater crab habitat in the valley, as this time of the year, is mating season. Farmers who wanted to water their crops from the valley water, were exasperated.

My Choice - Daħlet Qorrot, Gozo: Clarinet Concerto & Meditation
A visit to a very quaint bay in Gozo, Daħlet Qorrot and we chose two sweet selection to accompany it:
1. Clarinet Concerto by Mozart
2. Meditation by Jules Massenet
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Clarinet concerto No. 2 in A major. Mozart's Clarinet Concerto No. 2 is possibly the best known part of this concerto and was composed by Mozart in 1791.
Méditation, the famous entr'acte for violin and orchestra from the Opera Thaïs by the French composer Jules Massenet. It is performed by André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra. It was also one of Mozart's final completed works, and his final purely instrumental work (he died in the December following its completion).
Photos were all taken by Choy Hong (Jasmine) Grech.
Daħlet Qorrot is a small inlet nestled in the northern cliff face of Gozo and can be reached from Nadur.
The cove is used by a small number of fishermen who have turned some caves into boat houses and storage areas for fishing gear and one can observe these fishermen mending their fishing nets or repairing their colourful boats to keep them seaworthy.
The pebble beach is small but one can also swim off the quay or the rocks on both sides of the bay. The sea is crystal clear and very inviting.
